I like the idea of Gore learning from Evo and deGrom.

If we get another bat I'm guessing it's through a trade.

They are paying Joc Pederson $16MM for one more year to DH. He is either going to revert back to his previous numbers or he will not. But you have him and his contract so you are going to try it out.

They are going with Jung at third, Seager at short and Burger at first.

Second base is an open competition. A lot of people think Smith wins it, but I think it will be someone else.

Langford and Nimmo are two outfielders. Carter and Haggerty are two more. Then there is Duran, Helman, Freeman (my favorite for second base) and a couple of others.

I very much think that CY expects guys like Jung and Burger to produce at a much higher level than they did under Bochy. He brought in Nimmo. Like it or not, Chris Young looks at this lineup and sees a whole lot of production. If he's right, I don't know where in the world anyone is going to "add a bat". The offense is set. He has said that. Time to get on board or pick another team.

On paper it looks decent, but the minute Seager, Jung, and Carter get hurt (like they always do), the lineup goes to dog crap - especially if we get last year's Joc

At this point I'll take a player who is league average at the plate. Can't remember exactly how much money we have to spend before we get to the tax limit but if I remember correctly it's enough to sign a few average players.

What is your "league average"??? BA? HR? RBI? or a WAR compilation?

Dylan Moore is a FA hit .201 last yr.
Jose Iglesias….. poor last yr…. historically much better BA…. did father time catch up or poised for a rebound???

Its easy to say …. "sign better players". but its a message board… your chance to play GM….. name your players. At the end of the day if you are right your get high fives…. if your wrong, you arent getting fired!!! lol

I don't love running it back with last years group at the plate as much as anyone, and I like Nimmo better than Garcia for the most part, but offense in the MLB right now is so, so hit and miss on not only a year-to-year basis but on a month-to-month and week-to-week basis. It's why I struggle to argue that anyone should be spending huge money on a bat these days outside of a handful of guys.

Outside of Judge, Ohtani, Bobby Witt Jr., Soto and maybe a few others, it feels like a complete guessing game as to who's going to do what at the plate. I mean good lord Cal freaking Raleigh just hit 60 homers in a single season.

I agree, it's a lot easier to play gm than it is to actually be gm. Playing gm is a fun thing I like to do in the offseason. Last offseason I really wanted to sign Rooker. He would have been a great addition to our lineup for the price. Of course that's just one player and I've probably been wrong a lot more than I've been right. I may try to find a few possible additions we can make this weekend.

Same. Also didn't like keeping Janko on the opening day roster in 24 since we had Bubba Thompson.

I loved the Kinsler/Fielder trade. I also thought Jason Botts and Rya Rua could be all stars.

I thought Oddibe McDowell and Bump Wills were future HOF players.

At least I always thought Michael Young would be great when he was in the minors. So I'm not a complete idiot, just 2/3rds of one.

I show my kids Odor's punch of Bautista every year during spring training. Gets us pumped for the new year.

I was at a Newberg Q&A with JD when Odor was coming up and JD was gushing about him and his makeup.

Oddibe was my favorite player for quite a while. Was also a big Sunny fan as I played in his Southeast Arlington tournament for several years.

Didn't want to brag but it was an all-star tournament so spares couldn't play.

Walcott coming in as the No. 7 overall prospect. Would be great to see him take a big jump in bat and strike zone control this year.

Love the hindsight GM talk.

I think every time Angels made one of their big splash signings -- Pujols, CJ Wilson, Hamilton -- I declared the division all but decided!

GMJ I didn't really include because I don't think anyone really thought he would be a game changer in Anaheim. He was a product of a decent player taking HGH and Angels got fooled by it.

Don't remember if I've told this story on a Rangers thread or not, but I was 12 years old and at that game. Didn't see that catch because my grandfather made us leave to miss traffic. My uncle went insane when he called the next day to ask me about seeing the catch and a perfect game. We heard it in the car leaving the stadium.

That's insane.... I would have lost it.

We had tickets to the game but I wound up going to camp that week. Told my dad to go without me but he swapped with someone for a different game. He still reminds me of it.

You left a perfect game in progress?

I'd have held a grudge with the old man for a LONG LONG time.

For those wondering, Sebastian Walcott is still firmly inside the top 10 in almost every prospect ranking you will find. Up to top five in a few as well. Huge year for him ahead, as the Rangers have pushed him super hard through the minors, and he's responded positively at every step of the way. Had a solid year last year even despite a little bat to ball/strike out struggles, but most of that is probably just experience and age. If he has a good spring I bet we see him start in Triple A Round Rock. Would love for him to get a bit better controlling the zone and getting bat to ball, and squeeze a little more juice out of his swing, as he's got legit 30+ homer potential juice from his frame.

The other guy I have seen a bit pop up on the Top 100 prospects list is 20-year old Caden Scarborough. Was our Round: 6, Overall Pick: 171 in the 2023 draft out of HS. Had a really solid year with Hickory last year and is a guy to watch to move up through the minors.
