Wasn't on my bingo card.

Any 2B Smith plays would be in a platoon role. He's a solid player, has a role he fits, but over the past 2 years he's proven to not be an everyday player. Has consistently broken down after the ASG

Seems solid. Semien just seems to have hit the age wall, and he's so streaky that he's gotten hard to count on. Nimmo has warts of his own but should be a solid producer, and this balances your IF and OF talent on hand. And you get something for Semien before he's completely busted and has no value.

Nimmo's 2025 stats and where they would've ranked for the Rangers:
AVG - .262 (2nd)
2B - 27 (2nd)
HR - 25 (1st)
RBI - 92 (1st)
OPS - .760 (3rd)
K - 141 (2nd)
SB - 13 (T-3rd)
bWAR - 2.9 (5th)
Mets are sending $5M to Texas to slightly offset the dollar difference.

He is such a class act and really gave alot, with his wife, to the community since he's been here. I wish nothing but success for him as a Met.

Terrible move.
If you didn't like Adolis at $12-15M for '26, you won't like Nimmo at $20M for the next 5 years. They are about the same age and IMO, Nimmo isn't that much bigger of an upgrade Offensively. I know nothing about his D, but Adolis was a game changer with his D.
You dump a GG at 2B. You know what that does to your Ps? You've now dumped a finalist for GG in RF and a GG at 2B.
Only makes sense if we flip Nimmo. Helps CBT in '26, but overall a dumb financial move.

Nimmo hits for a higher average, strikes out less, walks more. We've already seen the best Garcia was ever going to be in a Ranger's uniform. He needed to go. Nimmo had an off year in '24 but at least performed more to his typical stats last season, whereas Adolis had his 2nd bad season in a row. Semien being traded raises an eyebrow, but it does free up some salary and the simple truth is that the odds of a 35 year old middle infielder being better at 36….well, let's just say it wasn't likely at all.
IMO this gives more credence to my notion that the Rangers are doing a rebuild without calling it a rebuild. I'm assuming there will be other moves to follow.
