It's weird to have this little emotion about the captain of our only World Series team being traded. He was a huge part of the WS run but it never felt like he fully connected with the fans here
Love Semien. He is the ultimate professional, and was a big part of our World Series title. Wish him the best!
This trade makes sense on the surface if this Nimmo dude brings a better bat, and we need another outfielder with Adolis almost certainly out. Smith and/or Freeman can take over 2nd.

Any 2B Smith plays would be in a platoon role. He's a solid player, has a role he fits, but over the past 2 years he's proven to not be an everyday player. Has consistently broken down after the ASG

Yep. Freeman showed some promise. Smith/Freeman platoon is the likely route.

Per year is cheaper. Feels like a good move to me. Nimmo should be a more consistent performer than Adolis.
Seems solid. Semien just seems to have hit the age wall, and he's so streaky that he's gotten hard to count on. Nimmo has warts of his own but should be a solid producer, and this balances your IF and OF talent on hand. And you get something for Semien before he's completely busted and has no value.

I agree here. Given Semiens age and money due (and overall decline), this seems to be a good deal. We get a better player, and save money on a per year basis.
When you look at Semien's stats the past 2 seasons, he has one pretty hot month and the other 5 he struggles to get to .220 BA and an OPS in the low .600s. The one hot month in each season covered a bit for just how bad he's been. 2 out of 12 months did he have an OPS over .700. Nimmo has been much more consistent; he had 4 months over .700 in 2025 alone.
Big picture, steadily removing these long slump guys should help them a great deal even if their replacements don't initially look like big upgrades when you compare full season stats

Appreciate what he gave the Rangers, but it was time to move on. He was awful for a large part of his last two years here.
You are in for a rude awakening if that was your concern with Semien. Nimmo will get hot but he will have extended streaks of head scratching at bats.
Mets are sending $5M to Texas to slightly offset the dollar difference.

If you didn't like Adolis at $12-15M for '26, you won't like Nimmo at $20M for the next 5 years. They are about the same age and IMO, Nimmo isn't that much bigger of an upgrade Offensively. I know nothing about his D, but Adolis was a game changer with his D.
You dump a GG at 2B. You know what that does to your Ps? You've now dumped a finalist for GG in RF and a GG at 2B.
Only makes sense if we flip Nimmo. Helps CBT in '26, but overall a dumb financial move.

Agreed on the defense, but Nimmo should give us a more consistent bat than Adolis. Will be interesting to see if Smith, Freeman and maybe Duran can step up and get the job done at 2B.

Agreed on this. Semien vastly improving on his declining numbers from the last two seasons at age 36 is unlikely. I'd rather roll the dice with Smith/Freeman/Duran knowing that we likely upgraded from Adolis at the plate with his replacement.
Nimmo's 2025 OPS was 100 points higher than both Garcia and Semien.
