I wonder if he's got a history with Schumaker somewhere in the past and he didn't want to work with him.

Or maybe as mentioned it's family related. He's 64, so maybe grandkids living in California so it appeals to him to see family more often as he ages.

ETA, both his kids work in Dallas so this is even harder to understand for me now.

Feels like he's not a big fan of Schumaker. Only thing I can make of it unless the Angels dumped crazy $$$ on him. All I know is this franchise has had 2 great runs in its history, and he was in that job for both of them.

Another theory could be he didn't like how things went down with Bochy. He probably wanted to separate himself from one manager to the other. Sucks either way.

That or possible he was ready for a change.

They were together in StL where Schumaker was the Bench Coach.

Bouchy was offered another position with the Rangers and chose to leave. The info above indicates Maddux was offered other roles with the Rangers. What isn't currently known is if the "other" role was before or after he declined the Pitching role. Rangers appeared to counter (from above).

I'm guessing he didn't care much for Schumaker... probably didn't like the way the Bochy thing went down, and likely wanted to move on from CY.

He went to Anaheim on a 1yr deal... with a 1st time manager. It is a rebuild. He didn't sign a long-term deal, so I don't see him going there to develop the roster.

Managing deGrom and Eovaldi and many of the Ps we had, didn't seem like magic, even as spectacular as they did.

Sad to see him go. Hopefully Eovaldi plays a role in coaching.

DLLS made it sound like A) the angels threw a bag at him. B) may have been offended they let Angels talk to him. C) didn't give a great offer.

IMO, a pitching coach has a lot bigger impact on the effectiveness of a roster than a hitting coach does. One thing that I liked about Maddux was that he still believes starting pitchers should strive to pitch more than 5 innings, which seems to be the exception these days rather than the norm.

I'm on the fence about the Schumaker hire…may wind up being a fantastic move, but could just as easily be the next Jeff Bannister. I do think it was time to move on from Bochy…for whatever reason, he wasn't getting the results out of the players that was expected. Guess we'll find out if it was a good change or not next summer.

MLB radio mentioned yesterday that Hunter Greene is on the trading block. His contract is through 2029 at $8MM per year. He's 26 years old.

Do you see what it takes or pass if he is available?

My first thought was to trade Jung, but Cincy just traded for Ke'Bryan Hayes, who is signed through '29.

Just not sure what Texas would give up for an arm like Greene. Maybe Rocker and other pieces?

Apologies if you guys already covered this topic, but if the Rangers have an opening at 3B coach, and a certain former Rangers employee is a free agent after the LAA cut him loose, and he's likely too old/unhealthy to manage again but could be an asset as a coach...any interest in a reunion?
