Notes from the Nimmo PC. Seems likely they'll bring in a veteran catcher. Interested to see what the final 2 spots of the rotation and BP ultimately look like

Between Seager and Jung, even if you intend to platoon Smith/Freeman, they will both play a lot

First time I've ever heard adding a career .310+ hitter as "they get him and this team won't be worth watching". Might be time to check that ssri dosage. This lineup needs more ducks on the pond and balls in play. The dude never strikes out. 1B is 1B.

A .310 hitter that platoons with Burger and Pederson?!

My issue is that he is one-dimensional. He hits. He is a liability at 2B. He is a liability at 1B. He DHs, where we already have a platoon player whose only role with the team is to DH against RHP. He gets $18M.

If Arraez plays 2B, it will be frustrating to watch. SO... for the 3-4 ABs he gets, you can celebrate while we get 9 Innings of terrible defense.

I said dump Pederson. Try reading the thread

This team didn't suck because we couldn't get guys on.

It sucked because we couldn't get guys in from 3B with 0 outs.

Late in the game, we just never realized it was possible to get a runner in from 3B without swinging to get 120mph exit velocity. It was what made the "little rascals" fun and successful. They were able to move runners in.

We need more of that. If Arraez could play Defense, I'm all for that kind of hitter. But everyone complained about Shin-Soo Choo.

A guy that doesn't strike out, puts the ball in play, and gets on base is exactly the type that drives runners in from 3rd with no outs. As I posted, you dump Pederson, eat some salary to do so, and shoot to balance out the cost which they could likely do

We have 17 Ps on the 40.

SP (3): deGrom, Eovaldi, and Leiter are solid, assuming Leiter can sustain his 2025 results.
Potential: Rocker, Latz (L)

Corneillo and Santos got GS in the AFL, while Teodo only made relief appearances.

I trust CY will sign a couple SPs. One like Urena/Lorenzen/Corbin. MLB SPs that are bubble guys that didn't seem to find the right fit until late.

He'll likely sign at least one SP to a minor league deal with an Invite to ST.

Then, a couple guys recovering. Still plenty of off-season.

There is always the possibility that the Rangers have something up their sleeves here to bring in a big bat.

Some sort of situation like what was mentioned where you can eat half of Joc's deal to make him go away and now there might be room to bring Alonso or Schwarber in.

I could really dig a lineup of

Nimmo
Langford
Seager
Alonso
Jung
Smith
Burger
Carter
Higgy

Just saw an article that says Alonso is looking at 4yrs/140M. That's 35M/yr, the Rangers aren't going to do that. Alonso would be great, but that's a pipe dream IMO.

How are you going to dump Pederson? Besides using my suggestion 6 months ago of planting 100 kilos of heroin in his trunk. Who is going to trade for a guy making $18 million and bats .095 with a few bombs and can't play defense. The Mets would have better luck finding someone to take over the annual Bobby Bonilla payment than CY moving that double cheeseburger.

I'm 99% sure the large human being you're referencing in that photo is Clayton Kershaw

That larger human is covered lol. I'll give him a pass with 3 titles and every other piece of hardware he's got

I agree they aren't going to 35 million a year, but not sure who else is either.

I'm thinking more like 5 for 130 to bring the AAV down. With the Adolis and Jonah savings we're already a good part of the way there without busting the CBT.

Mostly though I'm hoping that CY learned a lesson about trying to patch together a lineup with junk pile additions like Joc. There's usually a reason a guy is a journeyman

You are going to have to eat some of that $$$ is how. Already explained that. Joc had a lousy season but that doesn't mean he has zero value whatsoever. I'll explain it again since some of yall aren't big on reading thr thread before talking **** . Arraez was at 1 for $14 for last year; this mostly plays if you can get it him for somewhat less than that, then you eat a sizable chunk of Joc's salary. If the league loves Arraez as much as DallasAg, then he's a bargain. Basically swapping them out and remaining in that $18-20 total salary paid.

I saw a projection on Arraez somewhere at two years and $14MM. No idea if that's what he goes for or not. But if you could get him for around that amount, your scenario could work out pretty well. Pederson does in fact have value and there could likely be quite a few teams that are willing to bet on a bounce back year if the Rangers eat some salary.

So if you could sign Arraez for that projected amount, you could pick up half of Pederson's contract and you would then have Arraez instead of Pederson for the same outlay of cash.

I'm not saying I would definitely do that, but if it played out to that scenario I would definitely take a look.

Seems like we should see if Luke Weaver or Kyle Finnegan want to be our closer. Both are probably cheap and likely an upgrade over the group we had last year.

I'd rather let our young guys play in the field and see how they do in a lineup with Seager, Langford, Smith, Nimmo, etc. No need to sign Arraez, and no need to play Pederson. He can plan the team movie nights and bunco games for the wives.
