If he has health issues, you can't really bring him back as a third base coach. The continual travel and such might catch up with him, assuming he still has ongoing health issues or needs fairly frequent medical appointments. So maybe some "special assistant" type role. He could work with the infielders some, and then go to Frisco and Round Rock on occasion and do the same. Something like that might could work out.
Doesn't move the needle for me. I've never been a fan of, or understood for that matter, the notion of trying to "put the band back together". It fails a whole lot more often than it works. Wash is 74 with health issues, unless they're interested in sticking him in some sort of PR role or special assistant to the infield coordinator, I just don't see what the point would be. Appreciate what he did as Ranger manager, but that ship sailed over a decade ago. JMO
No thanks on Wash. No ill will, but we don't need a "Breaking News" piece during the middle of next season.

I would drop a bag and a half on this guy. I just think this wave of Japanese talent is the real deal, and he's as good of a hitter as they have right now.

While I am all for getting back into the Japanese player bidding game, I don't love his K rate so I don't think this is the one I'd lean into. He's basically K'ing in over 1/3 of his official AB's and 26% of PAs. I thought this team was at its best the past 2 seasons when it was putting balls in play, which wasn't often enough.
I don't disagree, I just want to see the Rangers be aggressive in general and take some shots. We took big shots on Seager, Semien and deGrom and they have kinda sorta panned out, at least for one great year. So go out and get a guy who has a high contact rate and then you add a guy like Murakami to balance it out. That sort of thing.

I absolutely agree with you (I think, hope I'm not misreading) that the roster as it is currently constructed isn't a competitive one. At least not to win the division or even be a WC team. I'm not encouraged by the smoke suggesting that Ray Davis is wanting to slash the budget, or at least decrease it by some unspecified amount. If it's a slight reduction, maybe we can make it work. Knock 20 million or so off, and we're looking at a rebuild.
I think the team, as is, can be a playoff team.

The problem as I see it is, you have a higher than acceptable rate of players regressing on this team. Adolis, Heim, Jung, Semien…all of them are looking more and more like they've already hit the high water mark for their careers. And I absolutely don't subscribe to the "fix" player X notion. Sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't, because most of these guys are WYSIWYG. You don't 'fix' a plow horse into a thoroughbred. Adolis is a .220 hitter with above average power. Heim is a .200 hitter. Jung is a .250 hitter. Semien and Pedersen are aging and their talents are in decline. I don't see that changing in '26, but that's JMO.
every time we have played unselfish baseball the last 2 years we've done good things. for whatever reason, a lot of guys on the team think they need to be Sosa, McGuire or Canseco. We just need to play the game like it is meant to be played

There is potential with this roster. Yes, it does need some Adolis and Heim churn along with Joc getting his ass back in shape. I don't expect a Ray Davis forced fire sale, but I do think the payroll will be a bit smaller than last year. It will come down to how effectively they can repurpose the money spent on Adolis/Heim. You may consider flipping Jung while he still has value. Maybe you flip Joc while eating some salary. Between Adolis/Heim/Joc, that's close to 35 mill in salary that you have to get more out of.

LOL. Yeah, I just don't see it with this dude. He will hit some HRs but he is going to K so often. No thank you. That's just spending money to spend money and maybe adding another Adolis or Joc that we're cussing by May and saying "well, we could have gotten some real help in here but you blew $____ on this dude" (see Adolis/Joc talk from the past 1-2 years)

The DMN guys are absolutely certain that payroll will be slashed for 2026, but who knows. Ray Davis seems like his mind can be changed rather quickly

I officially have zero expectations for this team in '26. Seems like just yesterday we were talking about the window opening for 5 years.
It sure isn't looking like we're going to be making any significant, impactful additions to the roster. Sort of a rebuild without calling it a rebuild. I'm waiting to see how the off-season plays out, but the early returns don't exactly have me brimming with confidence.
Enjoying Newberg's 2026 position by position breakdown so far. No real surprises through C, 1B, 2B, and SS, but interested to see his thoughts on 3B. Just a bummer that Jung has never really broken through

It certainly feels like we are the newest version of the Royals in 2015 and the Nats in 2019, teams that won a title but never showed up anywhere near the LCS again for the next several years.
I think we will be fine next year. We should have been fine this year. #1 ERA in mlb without a real closer. DallasAg was our setup man.
