I almost take this as Max leaving being the straw that broke the camel's back.

The team has been in chaos, the car is crap, and now...assuming they know Max is leaving. Probably good time for a team reset.

Two reasons for the sacking
- Awarding Sergio Perez an unnecessary contract which left Red Bull having to a pay lot to sack him at the end of 2024
- Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda being inadequate in the 2nd seat

Crazy to see Horner out but with all the drama and turnover it seemed likely. It makes you wonder if they let him go to retain Max or because Max is already gone.

Agree. I suspect that the off track "me too" issues eliminated a lot of the goodwill he had accumulated over the years that might otherwise have saved him in a driver vs. principal ultimatum.

Don't forget Adrian Newey also left on Horner's watch, and with a year left on his contract. That's arguably a bigger loss than any driver.

Horner will forever be a legend for me and the golden era with Seb is the best I've ever seen (Seb 2013>Max 2023) but I can see why he is getting Vince McMahon'd

I could see Haas taking a flyer and naming Christian the new team principal at the end of the season. Let him build Haas into a top 3 constructors and take Ollie to a world championship. That would be the middle finger to everyone in F1

Horner seems like a particularly unlikeable guy. In the real world I made the observation early on that if you're going to be an a-hole/b*tch, then you better be really good at your job. As soon as your performance isn't there (for whatever reason), you're really easy to get rid of.

yeah this is such a crazy situation. you can argue they got rid of him to keep Max but also that Max already left and they are getting rid of him because of all they have lost because of him, both scenarios make sense. just 2 years ago the team nearly had a perfect season

I hear you.

I just think it's unlikely Max would stay, because Horner was let go. He'll still have a poor car, no leadership, no 2nd driver, and no idea who'd be steering the ship.

Compared to Merc, that has a good car, and Toto running things.

I know Jos seemingly dislikes Horner...but I also think the one thing that Horner and Max saw eye-to-eye on, was that they'd do anything to win.

Either way, crazy all the way around.

The combination of Max, Horner, and Newey was just outstanding. They put together an absolute machine. After Adrian left I figured that group would be headed for a breakup. Even though Newey is at Aston Martin I don't see Max on a team with Stroll. Toto and Max make sense together. Mercedes would let Russell go and keep Antonelli as their second driver.

I could see Audi making a run at Horner as well.

wow, you are going to be on a lonely island with that opinion. Seb was a great driver. Max is one of the best all time.

So Ugo Ugochukwu (the US driver in F3) started driving with a blank livery since like the last 2 F3 rounds. He is a McLaren junior so he used to drive with the orange livery, when it went dark people thought he was out of the McLaren driver program, but then the McLaren logo was placed on the rear wing only so everyone was confused. Turns out they had to remove all the extra paint and stickers to save weight because he is TOO tall.

Ocon and Albon are the tallest drivers in F1 at 6'1. I believe they have mentioned the cars are better designed for drivers around 5'8.
