Just went through A, no pre check available, through in 12 minutes

So Terminal A security is open? My son has (had) a flight out of A but the United app told him to go to E and then take the train. He spent two hours outside and just now got inside the building. He'll miss his 820 flight.
The United app is directing everyone to E. Between what Chewy and ChiAggie posted and a text I got from a friend that flew out shortly after him, I went A. Standard TSA was still damn near out the door. Pre-Check was no one. Clear Pre-check had a really long line and I just laughed at them for standing in it when they could just scoot over and not have to wait.

Is this solely a shutdown thing or coupled with typical county incompetence? I haven't seen Reports of delays this dramatic from other major hubs. Maybe I'm just missing it.

It is odd Houston is once again taking it on the chin and every where else is relatively fine..

Yeah had a buddy experience similar delay. ATC was limiting traffic in Houston and he was delayed a few hours.

I can count on one hand how many times I've flown in the last 5 years. So I don't have any sort of pre-check clearance.
Supposed to fly out of IAH Wednesday morning at 9:30 with United. How early should I be getting there, and any suggestions how to shorten my wait time? I have a bad back and standing 5 minutes is torture. I can't imagine having to stand in line for 3 hours like some people are saying.

I don't have any doctor's form of any kind that I would assume I'd need to get a disabled pass.

From what I've seen, you just say on the reservation you need preboarding and a wheelchair..... based off the people I've seen.

This stinks to me like somebody in the TSA union deciding that the shutdown wasn't hurting enough to get the Rs to cave, so they decided to organize a sick out to force airports to shut down security lines. As was said above, I suspect it was not an accident that they chose to use E instead of C, with E typically being slower the C.

Oh yea, this is definitely the people not getting paid's fault.
