So Terminal A security is open? My son has (had) a flight out of A but the United app told him to go to E and then take the train. He spent two hours outside and just now got inside the building. He'll miss his 820 flight.

The United app is directing everyone to E. Between what Chewy and ChiAggie posted and a text I got from a friend that flew out shortly after him, I went A. Standard TSA was still damn near out the door. Pre-Check was no one. Clear Pre-check had a really long line and I just laughed at them for standing in it when they could just scoot over and not have to wait.

It always blows my mind how many folks lack the ability to think critically

No pre-check in A…was Clear open?

I'm joining the fun in a couple hours, and trying to gauge if I should try E pre-check now. The website says terminal A North pre check is open but 180 min wait.

Drop off at 5:15am at C. Checked bag at C. Subway to E for TSA Pre. 35 minutes to get through security. Skytrain to B. Allow yourself extra time.

WHY are they closing precheck now in A?

Dropped off at E at 6:45. Thru TSA Precheck by 7:10. Not bad at all. Now if you're not precheck - it was literally 10 times longer. Those folks weren't moving and they were 3 rows deep outside the terminal. Then inside even more people. It did look like C security was checking people in. C past security is crazy empty. Lots of folks aren't making their flights already. But don't see any flight delays. Knock on wood.

A Clear with Pre is the play right now.

Maybe 10 minutes.

c had lines that were easily hours long no matter the line. E was apparently worse. Avoid.

We flew in/out of EWR this weekend. No issues for us leaving Friday morning, but BF's son had his early am Delta flight from XNA to ATL cancelled as he was driving to the airport. Was rebooked XNA to ATL to DTW to EWR.

On Sunday, a lot of flights out of EWR were delayed for 2-3 hours. Ours left 3 hours late (airport issues combined with a broken toilet on the plane). Sat on the plane for about an hour before departing. A bunch of passengers missed their connections at IAH.

We knew our flight would be delayed because I was tracking the inbound plane, but United didn't officially say it was delayed until the very last minute. Had we relied on United, we would have been at the airport way too early. Use flight aware to track your flights, and don't rely on the airlines to give you accurate info, unless you just want to spend a lot of time hanging out at the airport. We were able to get an extra hour or so with family.

We flew United. For some reason, Delta flights seemed to be affected even worse.

BF's son only made it as far as Atlanta thanks to his 3+ hour delay and had to get a hotel for the night since he missed the last flight to XNA.

TSA precheck security line at EWR was fine (maybe took 10 min total), but regular security was slammed. Idk if it was as bad as IAH, though.

This is the first year in a while we decided not to travel at Thanksgiving, and I'm so relieved.

Flying back from Tulsa this morning and walked right up to Pre.

Scanner people waiting on me to put my bag through.

Counted 8 TSA people just standing around not doing anything.

World of difference from IAH.

Would guess Tulsa sees a few less passengers than IAH does

Yeah. Just crazy to see how completely different it is from IAH less than 24 hours ago.

I almost pulled the old, "They should send y'all to Houston if you're just standing around here" conversation.

But I know they don't give a sheet and quite honestly, neither do I.

Zero issues flying out of SLC yesterday (no wait at TSA pre-check). Houston seems to be one of the hardest hit with this mess.

Even more odd is it's more than just TSA. My aunt and uncle flew into Hobby Friday from Tampa and were delayed leaving because Houston was short of personnel so less aircraft allowed in the airspace and more delays.

Yeah had a buddy experience similar delay. ATC was limiting traffic in Houston and he was delayed a few hours.

EWR has been having to do that for months and ORD has had problems as well...certainly not just a Houston problem but with the TSA issues it does seem to be the worst

I fly somewhat often for work and the first leg is typically from COS-DIA. It never fails if I'm on an early flight anywhere from ~6:30-8 we get held due to a ground hold at DIA for inbound flights. This has been the case forever though. Haven't flown since the shutdown so don't know if it's even worse right now up there.

I just went through Terminal A North security at 8:52. Clear + Precheck and I was through in 10 minutes. The line for pre-check looked like about 50 people. The IAH guy directing people into the different lanes said clear was not open on that side but it was.

United lounge receptionist said they'd just opened C for disabled, global entry and Clear passengers but I have no idea if that's true.

I can count on one hand how many times I've flown in the last 5 years. So I don't have any sort of pre-check clearance.

Supposed to fly out of IAH Wednesday morning at 9:30 with United. How early should I be getting there, and any suggestions how to shorten my wait time? I have a bad back and standing 5 minutes is torture. I can't imagine having to stand in line for 3 hours like some people are saying.

Maybe get a wheelchair / disabled pass, pretty sure those folks basically cut the line

I don't have any doctor's form of any kind that I would assume I'd need to get a disabled pass.

From what I've seen, you just say on the reservation you need preboarding and a wheelchair..... based off the people I've seen.

Yeah I've seen plenty of people in wheelchairs that don't really seem to need them once they get on/off a plane

This stinks to me like somebody in the TSA union deciding that the shutdown wasn't hurting enough to get the Rs to cave, so they decided to organize a sick out to force airports to shut down security lines. As was said above, I suspect it was not an accident that they chose to use E instead of C, with E typically being slower the C.
