It's typically the fastest option but I travel with folks that don't use Clear, and they get through security first on occasion.

My main point is that it's typically a couple minutes faster, which wouldn't justify the cost in my opinion.

However, once in a blue moon, the pre-check lines are crazy long, and Clear potentially helped me avoid missing a flight (or at least being quite rushed). Those rare instances make it worth the money to me.

This is spot on to my experiences. Nice to have especially with work paying for it. I walked in with coworker running a little late to GSP one morning trying to get home to IAH and prob a 99% chance we would have missed our flight without Clear as the TSA Pre line was like nothing you have ever seen. That morning bank of flights from there is big.

GSP absolutely cannot keep up with the growth in the surrounding area. I hate that airport nowadays!

Just went through Terminal A. Clear had about 10 people selling. And their own dedicated lane and side through security.

No precheck line at all. Don't know if precheck is related to gov shutdown or what.

TSA workers are considered essential workers, the shutdown has no impact on their day to day.
Ofc they're not getting paid, so don't expect bright, cheerfulness from them but then again that's asking a lot on a good day.

One side of A is regular security only, one side is pre check

Unless something changed in 4 weeks. I went through the same side of A as before. No precheck when I rolled through.

Huh that is weird…never know with IAH though

I've seen it before where pre check doesn't open until later in the morning at A.

I have had it happen where the official pre-check was not open but when you got to the TSA agent checking ID they give you a card and you get treated like pre-check going through the luggage scanner and metal detector.

Whole lot of good it does when you still have to wait in line with the peasants and unclean...

The best part about having pre-check is giving smug looks to everyone in the regular line.

Almost as good as pre-paying for a prescription refill at HEB and watching all the people in line give you a death glare while you get served first from the pre-pay line.

What really sucks is when the regular line is shorter than the pre-check and they smugly look at you thinking you paid to wait longer.

I don't mind that occasionally since I still get to look down my nose at them trying to find a place to put their shoes back on while I walk away from security.

I also feel like the plebs have to take laptops out versus precheck leaving them in. Maybe I'm imagining that.

They don't have to take their shoes off anymore right?

How recently did that happen? I am pretty sure I saw people with their shoes off in Portland on my way back a few weeks ago. I don't typically see it flying out of Austin because the TSA-pre line is pretty well separated from the plebe line.

The rule changed back in August, as I recall. It wasn't super publicized, so maybe people still aren't aware and TSA got tired of relaying the message in Portland.

I didn't have to take mine off in July.

Just looked it up; it was July that it implemented.

I know for sure they were making people take shoes off in Gulfport in August. Seems like maybe it was applied unevenly at various airports. Or like was said, maybe TSA just got tired of repeating themselves and let people take them off.

I didn't have to at hobby Friday when I was escorting kid. Kinda ridiculous that I can't use precheck for that.

Before I had TSA pre, I had a TSA agent pull me aside to point out an issue the xray identified on one of my running shows. I had just had a new roof put on the house and apparently at some point while walking around the yard, I had stepped on a roofing nail that went into the shoe at just enough angle that it didn't poke through into the bottom of my foot. I never noticed it in the shoe walking around, but he was nice enough to take a pair of pliers (probably confiscated from somebody else) and yank the nail out of my shoe.

Hobby security was a breeze this morning. Had to wait for a table at Rustic. Food and drink were solid A for an airport.

I was generally annoyed by the changeover from Pappa's at Hobby, but Rustic was a nice addition. Great place to kill time.

How are the TSA wait times at IAH and HOU? Got a flight this week.

based on anecdotal evidence from everyone I know flying lately, you don't need to worry about it because your flight will be delayed anyway

I can't speak for HOU but at IAH this can be very time/day dependent in my recent experience since summer. Sunday night or Monday morning 1st bank of flights can be crowded while late morning before mid-day can be zero wait time.
