A few months ago I did a reservation for parking at IAH. I got double charged, but wasn't sure if it was one of those charges that shows pending then disappears. Well, it didn't, both charges went through.

I tried to call them and got a message saying the only way to communicate was via email. So I emailed them and didn't get a response. After waiting about a month I opened a claim with Amex. They just notified me that they've closed the claim and refunded my money because nobody responsed to them either.

Guess it's too difficult to man the phones or email addresses.

All their employees are busy standing in front of cones at the entrance of the garage, walking to your window to ask if you have a reservation, then asking to see confirmation, then walking back to cones, move cone, watch you drive though, replace cone, repeat for next car.

All the while creating a long line of cars backed up onto Terminal Rd causing complete gridlock and chaos.

The cone movers are also TSA employees.

Flew out of C today. From Parking Spot 1 to the United Lounge took me less than 20mins. Thanks CLEAR & Pre-Check

Landed in terminal B today…. Sky train was broken so everyone was stranded in B till they got it up and running again. Chaos.

Can't you walk to whatever terminal you want to go to?

Not if you're inside the terminal. You have to take the Skytrain. Because the Terminal B lobby is closed, you also can't exit the terminal to take the Mr Toad train or walk to another terminal. You're trapped.

What a nightmare.

They just bid out for sky train replacement but I couldn't find an award. Hopefully they wait until B is finished.

Wife flies into Terminal A at 5pm today.

She checked a bag so she wants me to meet her inside.

What's your suggestion for parking?

Seems like the best bet would be to park on the A side. I'd keep an eye on the capacity for the day using the following:

https://www.fly2houston.com/iah/parking/

It's too late to reserve a spot but at least you'll know what the A/B garage looks like. Other than one of the off site lots and taking the bus, this might be your best option to meet inside.

If she checked a bag on United, it will come into C. You should park in C, which has been reservation only each time I flew out this week (tuesday and thursday).

If she is on another airline, she can get her bag at A. You can park in the A garage as it shouldn't be too crowded or reservation only on Saturday.

She flew SkyWest operating as American Eagle.

Was supposed to fly to Dallas and then College Station last night but both Dallas airports had communication issues and delayed or cancelled hundreds of flights.

She tried to swap flying into Houston last night but it was $1200. Nah. She got a hotel and flew SFA-LAX and is now headed to Intergalactic.

About a year ago, I started taking 2-3 flights a month for work, with almost all of them being out of IAH and I've had almost no issues at IAH until the trip I took this week. Until now, I've shared only positive comments on this thread.

I reserved parking in CDE, like I always do. When I approached the garage, I was stopped and told that only people with valet reservations would be let in and was directed to the AB garage. What's the point of making a reservation if you arrive and are turned away?! So, I proceed to the AB garage. I've never been there and the signage sucks, so it took me some time to figure out how to get there. I park and can't immediately find any signs that say how to get to any terminals. I finally see a sign saying Terminal A check-in is closed so go to Terminal C. Again, with no sign telling you where to go. I eventually find a sign for a shuttle to Terminal C. After a 10 minute wait a shuttle shows up and drops us off at Terminal C Baggage Claim. Typically, it takes me 20 minutes from parking to my gate. At this point, it's been 30 minutes and I haven't even gotten to security.

Then, when I returned last night, our original gate wasn't available, so we were sent to the furthermost gate at Terminal E. I proceeded to the sky train with plans to take it to Terminal A or B. Sky train was down so I walked over to C, waited almost 30 minutes for the shuttle to show up to take me to the AB garage. It took about an hour from de-planing to get to my vehicle. I think there is an UG tram, but I've never gotten on it and have no idea how to get down there.

Flew out of A this morning and was through TSA Pre in 5 minutes but the regular security line was the longest I've seen in A. It was wrapped back into the lobby.

last time i flew through A. they were purposely slowing down PreCheck to try and get people to sign up for Clear.

Flying out of C in about an hour. Per website all garages were reservations only so grabbed a Preferred reservation at Parking Spot 1 on WCP. They drop you off 1st when you arrive home and have had pretty good luck with it versus JFK.

Zero wait at C TSA-Pre

I still need to sign up for clear (my employer will pay for it) but rarely is it faster than pre-check most places I've flown.

C is hit or miss on the time comparison

Why would TSA be purposely slowing down traffic to get people to sign up for CLEAR?

A couple of weeks ago on a Friday morning in Austin, TSA Pre- line was probably 15 minutes long. By far the longest I had ever seen it. That was the first time I wondered if Clear might be worth it. Every other time at IAH or Austin, the TSA pre line was rarely more than a few people long.

I have a CC that pays for most of Clear, but agree that most of the time, it's not a huge time saver.

Every once in a while (usually places like MIA) the Clear line saves my butt though. In those cases, it more than pays for itself.

Last couple trips through TSA pre in C I've gotten smoked by someone going through regular security.

Happened to me the last 2 times I've traveled with extended family...bit ridiculous really

Also at Terminal E, my Apple watch has tripped the metal detectors, which has never happened to me at any other security checkpoint at IAH or another airport

Why would TSA be purposely slowing down traffic to get people to sign up for CLEAR?

I guess what I should say is how the Clear sign up folks and TSA were handling passengers created an artificial bottleneck in the TSA line.

They would get people to sign up for clear then run them to the front of the security line where only one TSA agent was handling, Precheck, Clear, and airport/airline employees. Every time they brought a Clear person up, they immediately got priority over the Precheck line.

to me, it was pretty obviously intentional by the Clear folks and the TSA just doesn't care one way or another.
tamuags08
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I guess that's true. I normally see two agents and clear only goes to one agent. If no clear, then precheck processes doubly fast.

If one agent they should take turns though
MAROON
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Ya I don't understand the CLEAR thing and why the US Govt allows it. So, a private company's customers get priority over those citizens already vetted by the TSA?

If we are going to do that then they should make a higher cost program like you are flying private - the no security option! Separate check-in, separate waiting area, no security pat down, etc. Now that is a service I would pay for.

and to quote myself for context

this reminded me a of a reddit AMA where a guy talked about being a TSA manager. everyone was asking all of these questions about why this why that? targeting individuals etc.

he said, the reality is most people working for the TSA just don't give a **** to put any effort into it. they have very little incentive to do anything other than the most basic work. employees that do care generally end up getting burned out by the fact that their hard work gets nothing more than the laziest employees get.
swimmerbabe11
How long do you want to ignore this user?
working for TSA seems like an absolutely miserable thankless job and any time a TSA agent is remotely pleasant, I make sure to compliment/thank them for it.

Nowadays, so many people have clear/pre-check, that it really seems like it doesn't save that much time. I don't pay for any of it and I very rarely have a long wait through security.

Seriously? It's always the fastest option when I travel.
Diggity
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It's typically the fastest option but I travel with folks that don't use Clear, and they get through security first on occasion.

My main point is that it's typically a couple minutes faster, which wouldn't justify the cost in my opinion.

However, once in a blue moon, the pre-check lines are crazy long, and Clear potentially helped me avoid missing a flight (or at least being quite rushed). Those rare instances make it worth the money to me.
