New Club Fly in terminal B is….a little sparse at the moment. Good barista though.

Have you been to the one in Denver? That's basically what United Club Fly is. It's basically a convenience store.

Best lounge I've been to is the Chase Sapphire at LGA. I hope they eventually make into IAH.

IAH had a chance to have world class lounges as credit cards are fighting for space, but Sylvester Turner stepped in and grifted for his buddies and now we have the exact same lounges we had before a billion dollars of construction.

B will have an upgrade, but that is due to United putting up money
Say more about this... I'm very curious.
The original plan was to replace the terminal and have lounge spaces, but Turner did not have a hand in the bidding on the initial projects so he burned it all down and started from scratch.

Quote:

A series of contracts was first brought to City Council in late 2015, but a vote was delayed by then-city controller Ronald Green. His successor, Chris Brown, would later cite potential violations of procurement rules and other concerns for not certifying funds for the contracts. Mayor Sylvester Turner, just one month after being sworn into office, tore up the contracts and restarted the bidding process.
Diaz, however, said Thursday that it was his understanding that the mayor rebid the contracts to get rid of a perception of wrongdoing left by the former city controller not because there was actually any wrongdoing.
"When we rebid them, the same contractors won," he said, "which I think was affirmation of the decisions we made the first time around."
Basically they rebid it and everyone came in at more money so they couldn't afford the initial plan anymore and did a hybrid.
Thanks... that's unfortunate.

I can't find any of the old news articles, but found this presentation from the airport.

For domestic lounges the Sapphire lounge at LGA and Venture lounge at DEN are tied for me. Sapphire might get a slight edge for being much larger. The new United clubs at EWR are third for me.

Given the amount of international traffic out of IAH on UA it's a shame don't have something like the Air France Salon at CDG or Maple Leaf Lounge at YYZ.

Even the united club at LGA is great. IAH had a chance to have a great terminal and completely blew it.

LGA and EWR have the best United clubs in my view, granted I don't fly out to the west coast hubs much so I'm really just comparing to IAH, ORD and IAD

The 'club' at IAD might as well be Zed's basement

The new United lounge in Denver is really nice, huge upgrade over the old one. When I'm flying with the family we go to the United lounge and the la folie on tap is always nice. Theres one bartender there that'll give you a pour in the full 16 oz glass.

Less meltdowns at airports if they'd just bring back the smoking lounges.

Ha I think the only one that I know of domestically is the smoking lounges in Vegas.

The speakeasy lounge…where they don't even have a full bar in one of them, just cans

If you gonna be stuck at IAH for a few hours your best bet is taking the inter-terminal train to the Marriott.

God I hope they put in proper bathrooms in United Club remodel. Went today to C33 club and it was busy but manageable.

Many reason the young are spending on travel and luxury travel:

1. Poor financial management
2. Points and miles guru churning credit cards
3. The young are generally prioritizing experiences and will pay more for it
4. Influenced by social media and influencers who travel in luxury
5. People having kids later means more disposal income for longer / more DINKS also fit this
6. Airlines monetizing upgrades - can often get upgrades to premium economy or business on long haul flights for $250 to $1000 which makes it more affordable
7. Willing to pay more as economy seats have become smaller and service worse

Leaving IAH just now; the uber pickup in the garage out of C is horribly conceived. No way for drivers to leave if drivers in front of them are waiting on their passenger to arrive.

. Can you arrange for them to pickup on departure level instead of arrival?

Not that I'm aware of. Trips that originate from within the airport seem to force you to a few options only.

I got picked up by Uber at C Monday afternoon and it was somewhat of a cluster but most people seemed to get in and out pretty easily.

Yeah, I like the concept and have been to the one in Denver. The one in terminal B hasn't yet "stocked up" like Denver. Check out the coolers in the back of the pic - they are 80% empty. Denver also has more c-store snacks on the shelf than IAH.

I've got a 4hrs layover at LAX on Thursday. Flying Delta. Any suggestion on which lounge to kill my layover at between the Delta lounge and AMEX lounge?

Unless it's changed and unless you're flying in/out of international terminal, you'll have to exit/clear security for the centurion lounge.

The worst part of no longer drinking is finally reaching a point in my career where I get business class travel and also have access to all the lounges and can't get airport throed on all the free booze. Younger me would be going HITP.

I don't drink a lot anymore but I just can't turn away airport lounge or first class booze.

Counterpoint: you wouldn't be where you're at today if you had continued. Stay strong my friend

Ha. for sure, no regrets. Except for all the free booze I miss out on. Something to be said for pounding a bunch of free bourbon then passing out on your lay flat seat and waking up on another continent.

This would require a level of restraint I just don't have. I can't remember the last time I flew 100% sober.

Welp terminal C garage gates were down tonight… anyone with a reservation couldnt get out and you had to wait till someone picked up the help button call. They had workers out there vut they couldnt do anything but press the button for you and chit chat while you waited. They said it was like this off and on all day. So my two hour flight delay back turned into another 30 minutes getting out of garage.

I had a similar experience yesterday evening. Scanning my QR said invalid reservation or something of that nature. Pressed the button and when the person answered the sound quality would remind you of the 80's drivethrough speakers that were muffled and hard to understand. The lady next to me was having the same issue and was very displeased based on how loud she was yelling at the voice from the box. She was there before me and was basically screaming at the machine to let her out. The big ole fat lady working there slowly sauntered down the row of cars and walked directly in front of the screaming woman to help me. I showed her my reservation and she jotted something down on a clipboard. Could hear the lady in the car next to me having a fit the entire time. When the employee went to let me out she very loudly said "Thank you for your patience sir". I
