I hope this changes the way the city operates.
I hope there is substantial change with the way the council deals with staff.
I hope the staff understands they have NO trust of citizens.

I doubt any of this actually happens though.

There seems to be a considerable lack of due diligence done by staff, maybe they're completely unqualified. Purchase of Macys was not thought through, independence park was not thoroughly investigated, and now the data center which to a discerning person would have been a nonstarter or at the very least taken to the public for feedback. Council appears to be yes men to staff and not doing their duty to investigate on behalf of the citizens which is a breach of trust. How many 10s of millions are we going to allow them to lose before people are held accountable. There were plenty of excuses made by council last night, along with contempt, that all rang hollow. Yancey is the only member that has earned any kind of trust and even then he should have demanded info about this project 10 months ago. Bob, staff works for you/us, not the other way around. If staff is insubordinate then bring it to your boss/us and let us know. Accountability must occur.

This "deal" is what is called in the administrative circles as a "resume builder". The senior staff may say that they are looking out for the citizens of College Station, which may be true, but it also something they can add to their resumes, when they eventually leave to find a "better" job.

Ding ding ding!!!!! Winer winner chicken dinner, I have been saying this forever. Macys, WP Creek, Northgate, etc etc etc is all so this guy can build his forces up to get a gig at a larger city. 100% this is attempted resume building

and furthermore there are no permanent residents of this community, that's why all of these deals must be scrutinized for their merits to all of us long term. All of the players (council, mayor and especially staff) reside here on their own accord, it isn't compulsory. They can all leave and leave us holding the proverbial bag.

Thanks to Bob and everyone else who took the time to work on this. Nice to see democracy in action locally.

I think very few held back illustrating the lack of trust.

If they don't know that, they are not reading the room.

We (the denizens of F35) helped affect some local change. We helped stop them from doing something foolish. If we had not stepped in, Mr. Benchwarmer would be building his bitcoin mine. Instead, he drowned his sorrows at the Chicken.

We have to build on that. I'm proposing that we do some kind of TexAgs candidate forum. Online AMA style (like we'd have to have staff make some changes for) or over a few days like we do normal threads.

I'm guilty of being pessimistic and I have been a guy who likes to complain here. I think we have a chance to make some changes around here. The local political landscape is changing.

A big thank you to everyone who wrote emails and communicated with the City Council Members and City Staff about the proposed sale of the property for the data center. And special thanks to everyone who showed up at last night's Council meeting. Lots of great folks surrendered their evening to speak out to send a strong message that the community wanted this project to be killed. Some folks even brought dinner and camped out for the long haul!

It made a difference. Anyone who listed to approximately 80 of our fellow citizens speak with passion and expertise should be proud that we live in a community where people are willing to get involved. We should also be thankful that the City Council listened and voted to reject this deal outright. In talking with folks who work at City Hall they said there's never been an outpouring of concern like everyone witnessed last night. The Council Chamber was packed with overflow crowds in the lobby and in at least three other meeting rooms that were opened to handle the crowd.

The circumstances that resulted in not bringing the public into the process was wrong.

We'll take the Council at their word as they said they will work to change the process to so they can be more involved themselves in the vetting process, along with a promise to make sure the public will be informed in plenty of time to engage in the process before any action is considered on future deals.

We'll have to wait and see on that---but for now we can be proud of our entire community!

I'd like to propose a few new threads that we can get stickied.

1) city council members running in the next election.
2) how to fire the city manager.

We need radical change and having a city manager who runs COCS like he is the king needs to change asap. As I understand it Woods can't be recalled, but we should be able to pressure the current council to fire Woods or they face recall.

Yancy said repeatedly he would ask for documents and they would be withheld by city staff. Those days should be over as of last night. Citizens stepped up to say you can't ignore us anymore!

I need Brian Alg to stroll in and do an ORR for all the correspondence between city manager, asst city manager, Econ dev, and asst Econ dev between each other and between them and the council, pertaining to the Priority Power deal.

We have momentum.

We need to take the fight to them.

We have to get that land rezoned for development

Something that disappointed me last night was the vote against the sale of city property for a data center. The no vote by the City of College Station council was unanimous. I understand that Bob Y and a few other council members were always a no vote, but I have a gut feeling that some of the council members were ready to vote yes, but changed their vote for political reasons. I know it sounds crazy but I would much rather have seen a couple of yes votes, rather than a unanimous no vote. At least I would have respected the integrity of some of the council members.

Watching Mayor live on KBTX. Older than Biden. Not right leader for CS for many reasons. He's confirming many right now.

Council lost a lot of credibility last night. Best to auction off all city owned land. College station is a failed land developer and should not be in that business
