And/or their agenda? There has to be more than meets the eye. The outpouring of opposition is immutable.

Definitely makes a person wonder. Why so secretive for so long? Why the sudden rush to force it through with a midnight vote? This does not pass the smell test.

CS sent out their Neighborhood News newsletter, and it says that you have to register with the city secretary by 2 p.m. if you want to talk about topics that are on the agenda and that you can talk about topics not on the agenda during Hear Visitors.

It also says you can send written comments and they'll provide them to council members.

So, if you want to talk about the "Priority Power Real Estate Contract" (how the data center issue is listed on the agenda), you have to sign up by 2 PM? What about people who just show up at the meeting and want to talk? Are they SOL for either talking during this agenda item if they didn't sign up earlier and for speaking during Hear Visitors since it's a topic that's on the agenda?

I am glad you and many others are getting involved in City government!

For YEARS, they have allowed people who show up without signing up to speak, when time allows. The Mayor is very kind to ensure people get to have their voice heard. The majority of time everyone gets to speak. However, it is polite to sign up ahead of time to ensure you get time to speak. Keep in mind this is NOT the only item on the agenda, on nights like this the meeting will run until midnight or later, so it is important to sign up ahead of time.

Why not just sign up? If you don't show up because you can't make it, it's not a big deal. They'll just skip over you and go to the next person.

In regards to your SOL comment, there are rules and procedures to follow. That is the same for all councils all the way down to your local school boards. It would be chaos if there weren't rules and procedures.

So to summarize...

The city bought the land speculatively with money taken from us (ultimately with the threat of force). Since the jobs and sales price are peanuts in the context of population and annual budget, the main selling point is increasing taxes and income for their local utility monopoly so they have more money to do what they want on a whim (because we all know our taxes will never go down). Oh, and high risk of water and electricity availability and pricing going up for the rest of us.

All done within the context of forcibly manipulating the development of nearby Midtown and then walking away from seeing the vision they cast come to fruition. And numerous council meetings and neighborhood residents speaking to them, all the while they knew this was coming.

And now they're all mad one of their own broke rank and bothered to let us know about their pending after midnight vote. Right.

Which, as I think about it, begs the question...

Would this deal come together in the private sector? Would a private land owner accept $30M without the allure of taxes and utility income? This doesn't seem to be the highest and best use of prime real estate so close to Hwy 6. Residential, retail, or light industrial would seem much more appropriate use. I'd think the land would be zoned this way if the overlords weren't blinded with $$$ in their eyes and focused on the type of intervention they should at most be doing in private affairs.

Then. They. Would. Have. Done. It. Already.

This is like a prospective sports team owner asking us to build a stadium for them...it's USFL 3.0. It might make it. It might not. Oh, and AI is selling the drinks and chicken wraps.

Who gets the remuneration for ramming this down our throats? All/some/one of the council members? Most likely the mayor?

I received a message from the petition that William Wright is supporting the real estate contract. He makes it seem there is time, but what are they voting on Thursday? I feel like there's only 3 days.

Well that guy is done.

I can't believe that he is comparing this project to building a Costco. Apples and oranges.

He claims we are still early in the process with plenty of time for public input. Doesn't seem that way when the vote is happening in 72 hours.

He will lose the support of many CS citizens if he votes for this.

Unfortunately it doesn't matter if he loses the support of College Station citizens. He will still have the support of College Station voters and that's what the folks like him care about.

I just want to encourage anyone who is passionate to join the many who are signing up to speak at council on Thursday.

I wanted to make it easy on anyone who wanted to sign up so here is the link

I also want to say thank you to everyone who came up and said hello to me tonight at Coopers, I appreciate your positive comments and loved getting to connect with some of you.

He said earlier in the thread that the potential buyers and staff had both put quite a bit of time and effort into preparing their presentation and they deserved a chance to be heard and make their case. Even if he is predisposed to a vote one way or another it sounds like he will hear them out at least.

So what it's a terrible plan I don't care how slick the presentation is. So if this presentation is awesome he'll ignore what the citizens want?

I don't trust him or anyone on the council, maybe I'll be proven wrong on this, I really hope so because this is horrible project

Exactly what I heard. If I had to guess he's voting no.

What's crazy is they will have to agree to allow the business to decide what facility they will build - either a bitcoin or data center. In essence, the city will sign a contract not knowing what the finished product would be. All of this secrecy leads me to believe it's going to be a bitcoin facility.

I'll gladly sell my house for what the county thinks it's worth. Less than 1000 feet from this thing.

If this diminishes all our home values, can we file a class action suit against them for our losses? Asking for a bunch of friends…

I am extremely thankful for Mr. Yancy. I believe he has our best interest in mind and will vote no on this issue. He said everything but that because he can't. But, he's 1 of 7 votes. 4 of 7 required to pass. Deferring is an option too if I understand the process correctly.

Finally, I believe he will champion our city in restructuring our antiquated city government & its processes should we show him, collectively, that we never want something like this to happen this way again.

I've seen Smith claiming "it's not a crypto mine", and he's voting for it.

The contract strongly suggests, that's not true.

Can anyone confirm the size of this facility ?

At 200 acres would that not make it the biggest mining facility in the world ?

Currently isn't the one on the 100 acres at the old Alcoa plant the largest in existence ?

It's not like it will cover the whole 200 acres. City probably making them buy it all, since it will essentially be worthless once this thing is built

the one being built in Abilene will be the largest in the U,S, when completed,,,,,BTW, it out of Abilene off of I20, not in a residential/retail area,

You're correct that it is not in a residential area, but the city annexed the land as part of the whole deal. So it is actually inside the city limits [now].

I would have no issue with it going in down Hwy 6 out of the city and then the city annexing it for the tax base as long as my tax money doesn't go to development of Contruction of the facility and infrastructure,

I can't imagine why the company wants to build there..,must be some sweetheart dealing going on, Give me two hours and I could come up with a dozen better locations in Brazos County for an operation of that size,

I have an issue of this location and the sale of $30 M of city owned land w/o a minimum of citizen input, It's land owned by thousands and thousands of residents and not only the few council members and our hired hand city employees,

Is it already industrial ?

I have a simple and effective solution.

Get some flatbed trailers. Load them up with speakers and Marshall amplifiers. Start blasting a constant drone at 80 decibels or best guess to replicate Bitcoin farm.

You need a trailer at each City Councilman's home.
Since most have day jobs, you'll need another trailer outside their office.
If their spouse works, park one outside the spouse's office.
You need another trailer or two outside of City Hall.
City Manager will have one parked outside his home.
City's Manager's spouse will have trailer parked outside her office.

You will probably need 15 setups to cover everybody. This should not be a ten-minute stunt. It should blast deafening white noise 24/7. If the sound isn't an issue for Spring Meadows residents, it shouldn't bother the City Council's neighbors, their spouses, or their places of employment.

I imagine this is not popular. Here is my opinion why:

I feel 99.9999999993% certain Bob Yancy will vote No on this.

With everyone online and the majority of the community being in full agreement No Datacenter. If he said he was voting NO, there wouldn't have been an extremely compelling reason to show up to Coopers. There was no way on earth that someone would have showed up last night to show support for the purchase of the data center.

Besides a few little snippets, did anyone learn anything revolutionary? Did anyone learn anything to make them even pause for a millisecond and think about changing their mind?

Often times, hating something brings unity, lol. And we all hate the idea of having a datacenter in Midtown.

What did happen, while people showed up to be heard and gather information; they also unknowingly kissed The Ring of Yancy.

Yes he broke the details on the forum. And while I believe we are all in agreement as to voting no, I am still a skeptic about motives. I imagine all the council members know how each other are going to vote. This is an extremely polarizing issue and most of us have our opinions formed the second we hear about it.

Bob Yancy talked to KBTX while at Coopers. He has made little comments on other issues after the agenda was posted and Wright posted a full page response for the datacenter on the petition site. There was plenty of opportunity for him to take a stand.

This is actually my #1 issue with Bob Yancy. I actually agree with much of what he says except for many of the big ticket city projects. I often feel like he is pandering to us. Real leaders make a choice and hold others accountable. High school kids say "they are all going to chew me out and yell at me" and when you ask them who; they reply, "I cant say".

Only the city council can fire or censure the City Manager. He refuses to take action and even attempt to hold people accountable. Their conduct is beyond the threshold of termination and Yancy & the council are the only ones with the legal authority to do anything about it.

I wrote a few pages back that our biggest issues with the city are really not the topics we are arguing about. The root is trust. This datacenter topic is probably the easiest topic for a politician to take a stand on and say NO.

Politicians do not get softball topics that just about everyone agrees on very often and the man cannot even say publicly Yes or No.

Mr. Yancy, I get the whole you work for us thing; but, stop calling us boss. Save it for the prisoners; that's what they call the guards.

The easiest thing a councilmember can do is treat us taxpayers like someone who has dated a bunch of bums all on a row. Each new councilmember comes in trying to wine us, dine us and 70-1 us. When we say slow down, lets first build trust by showing you can make good decisions before we start loosening buttons; we are the naysayers and too critical.

I am sure Yancy is voting NO, but it blows my mind why he just can't commit and take a stand; especially when we are all in agreement.

To all the council slow it down, prove you can be good stewards of our take dollars , and give us a history of making good decisions with the small stuff first.
