Why can't Mr. Yancy say how he will vote when Mr. Wright announced his vote earlier today?
I wondered this too.
I imagine this is not popular. Here is my opinion why:
I feel 99.9999999993% certain Bob Yancy will vote No on this.
With everyone online and the majority of the community being in full agreement No Datacenter. If he said he was voting NO, there wouldn't have been an extremely compelling reason to show up to Coopers. There was no way on earth that someone would have showed up last night to show support for the purchase of the data center.
Besides a few little snippets, did anyone learn anything revolutionary? Did anyone learn anything to make them even pause for a millisecond and think about changing their mind?
Often times, hating something brings unity, lol. And we all hate the idea of having a datacenter in Midtown.
What did happen, while people showed up to be heard and gather information; they also unknowingly kissed The Ring of Yancy.
Yes he broke the details on the forum. And while I believe we are all in agreement as to voting no, I am still a skeptic about motives. I imagine all the council members know how each other are going to vote. This is an extremely polarizing issue and most of us have our opinions formed the second we hear about it.
Bob Yancy talked to KBTX while at Coopers. He has made little comments on other issues after the agenda was posted and Wright posted a full page response for the datacenter on the petition site. There was plenty of opportunity for him to take a stand.
This is actually my #1 issue with Bob Yancy. I actually agree with much of what he says except for many of the big ticket city projects. I often feel like he is pandering to us. Real leaders make a choice and hold others accountable. High school kids say "they are all going to chew me out and yell at me" and when you ask them who; they reply, "I cant say".
Only the city council can fire or censure the City Manager. He refuses to take action and even attempt to hold people accountable. Their conduct is beyond the threshold of termination and Yancy & the council are the only ones with the legal authority to do anything about it.
I wrote a few pages back that our biggest issues with the city are really not the topics we are arguing about. The root is trust. This datacenter topic is probably the easiest topic for a politician to take a stand on and say NO.
Politicians do not get softball topics that just about everyone agrees on very often and the man cannot even say publicly Yes or No.
Mr. Yancy, I get the whole you work for us thing; but, stop calling us boss. Save it for the prisoners; that's what they call the guards.
The easiest thing a councilmember can do is treat us taxpayers like someone who has dated a bunch of bums all on a row. Each new councilmember comes in trying to wine us, dine us and 70-1 us. When we say slow down, lets first build trust by showing you can make good decisions before we start loosening buttons; we are the naysayers and too critical.
I am sure Yancy is voting NO, but it blows my mind why he just can't commit and take a stand; especially when we are all in agreement.
To all the council slow it down, prove you can be good stewards of our take dollars , and give us a history of making good decisions with the small stuff first.
