The all black looks sick. I bet they do something cool with it in the movie.

I would make Lupita Penelope as she's likable where Hathaway is not. I would make Hathaway Clytemnestra as I can totally see her stabbing someone to death.

The armor looks so bad. I can't imagine why with their budget they wouldn't make more of an effort.

Either way, these are mostly background extras we're seeing. None of their armor will be in close ups.

Doesn't get much more Greek than Lupita Nyongo.

Or Matt Damon. What's your point?

My point is they are casting a fantastic actress like Nyongo who is also one of the most stunning women in the world and cramming her into maybe the 6th or 7th lead? How come she has to settle for that while Anne Hathaway is playing Penelope, the wife of Matt Damon's Odysseus?
My perception, which I realize it not shared by everyone, is that this is a "safe DEI" casting. You're not really saying that the every role is open to every actor regardless of their skin color. Because too many of your audience members would flip out if Idris Elba or Michael B. Jordan was Odysseus.
But if they fold a black woman into a minor role, they can have their cake and eat it too.

Few things I hate more than leaked set photos.

For one thing, they spoil stuff, but even more importantly, they have almost nothing to do with what the final product will actually look.

So dumb to search those out or put any stock in them whatsoever.

Personally not a fan. They look like castoffs from the 2004 Troy movie.

In the Odyssey Odysseus's armor is described as complicated or decorated and his shield as bright. It historically probably looked more like this:

Please tell me you don't think that looks better than what Nolan settled on.

Because that would look absolutely ridiculous on film.

Otherwise, there weren't gods or goddesses or one-eyed cave monsters back then either.

It's all made up.

It's a blockbuster, not a documentary.

Also, again, everything we're seeing is out of context, isn't properly lit, is closer than it'll appear in the movie, etc.

Maybe those in the photo are some other force. I hope so. You're right, the big-time leaders of an ancient Greek army came out for battle looking like rock stars. Here's an expansion of your picture with some other really bad-ass armor pieces.

Going to be really interesting to see how Nolan mixes the real with the supernatural / mythological in this movie. Focusing on no / little CGI is going to be tough for a story with a cyclops, man-eating giants, an island full of sirens, Scylla the six-headed monster, the giant whirlpool, etc.

I visited an Athens museum that had a display of historical armor last year.

The armor often had nipples on it.

Give us Batman nipple armor?
Thanks and gig'em

This.

The Nolan doubt or lack of trust or whatever is off the charts.

Instead, this thread at times reads like a handful of people wanting to show their history buff bonafides instead of realizing that this a movie, not a documentary, and that these are ****ty paparazzi set photos.

Quit being so dramatic.

Posters simply amuse themselves with frivolous movie discussion.

You care way too much about how people feel about entertainment.

I don't understand why we are accusing Nolan of going full DEI when his most recent movie was literally a mostly male, all white cast.

No, no, no.

Generally speaking.

It's all insignificant chatter about movies. Why care so much about that?

It won Best Picture, which means he had to conform to the DEI policy of the Academy Awards.

Just sayin...

In shadows deep, where heroes tread,
A tale of gods, where mortals bled,
But oh, what folly in design
A vision warped, by choice confined.

Where armor gleams, with hollow grace,
Unfit to bear the hero's face,
A mythic journey, fraught with pride,
In clunky steel, the gods deride.

Nolan's touch, so deft with mind,
Yet here, the armor seems unkind
For legends need not metal cold,
But strength in hearts, and courage bold.

In ancient time, the gods did stand,
Their will not shaped by forged demand,
Yet on this film, a woeful sight
The armor's weight, devoid of light.

A heavy shell, a vain disguise,
That dims the fire within their eyes,
For heroes' might in tales of old,
Is born of spirit, fierce and bold.

So let us mourn this awkward choice,
And yearn for grace in their true voice,
For armor true, like myth, must be,
A symbol of strength, not blunt decree.

This proves it - the whole Odyssey movie is a cover for his actual Blue Thunder project.
