The only time "Top 8" becomes relevant is for seeding the NCAA postseason tournament. The Top 8 are national seeds and would host the first two rounds at their home stadiums. The body which determines that is the NCAA Softball Selection Committee. The primary tool used is the RPI, and as a general rule the committee uses the RPI as a guide to select the seeds, though they don't always follow it to a tee.

With Alabama playing Tennessee and OU playing Georgia this weekend it's vital that we bare minimum take the series against SC, although a sweep would be ideal. If we sweep and OU/Alabama each drop one game it would be a 3-way tie at 17-4 going into the final weekend. That would be crazy!

Heard is a pretty high level SEC pitcher and she carries that staff. If we could get to Heard, we would almost certainly have a great shot at winning the series. Frankly I think it's going to come down to pretty much that. Can the offense score runs off of Heard?

On our side, Peters and Lessentine and the infield defense will need to keep a squad at bay that's hitting just .209 overall in conference. Unless we make mistakes I think we will hold them in check.

The next 2 weekends will be complete opposites for us in the circle I think. This weekend we need to fill the zone. Next weekend we need to get OU to swing out of the zone.

Agreed. Oklahoma has multiple Maya Prez types and if you put stuff in the zone they'll put it in the parking lot.

This weekend I think is probably the best matchup for Lessentine in several weekends. I believe she'll get the bulk of the innings and I can see her starting Friday and Sunday. Sunday especially if we drop a game before.

Florida State also beat Florida 3-1. Not necessarily a good thing for us but interesting how hit or miss Florida can be on offense.

South Carolina beat North Carolina 16-14 in 8 innings despite giving up an 8 run inning. They found their bats (17 hits) but left their gloves (4 errors).

I agree with above comments - Ags should win this series with any kind of success at the plate.

That pitcher for Ok State is the real deal. Up there and possibly better than the Tech pitcher at this time. They will be a tough draw in a regional or super regional.

Through 21 conference games Pannell, Munnerlyn and Sparks have pitched 17% of the innings. Combined they have given up 38% of the walks and hit batters and 24% of the hits.
Mya Perez has been walked or hit in 39% of her plate appearances in conference play.

Game tonight seems ……. probable? Forecast seems iffy but I'm guessing we get it in. It's rained some this morning but stopped. Tomorrow seems pretty unlikely but who knows. Rainout tomorrow results in DH on Saturday I assume.
