I really hope we're active with our 2nd round picks this year looking at experienced guys like Chinyelu and Veesaar. I think we missed out on some easy cheap depth last year not taking a flier with Raynaud, Kobe Sanders etc. The key to keeping our window open for as long as possible is going to be finding a few of those guys that can hold down a roster spot for 2 million dollars a year.

Hindsight is 20/20 but knowing now that we just cut Sochan, we likely could have flipped him for a future 2nd at a minimum back then and saved money and rostered a cheap 2nd rounder.

Yeah, I think they wanted to give Sochan the benefit of the doubt because he is a legitimately really good iso defender.

We all would have been pretty pissed if Sochan was traded for a 2nd in the off-season.

Raynaud was a huge miss. My understanding is he wanted to stay in the Bay Area and have a guaranteed contract. Kings gave him 2y guaranteed and Spurs wanted a two-way deal.

I do want to take some swings, but also think a lot of people that would go late 1st or 2nd that still have eligibility will go back to school because they will make more money in NIL than they would with an NBA contract. Michigan gave Yaxel a minimum of $3M, which is about what a late 1st can get. It's almost triple what the Kings are paying Raynaud. Guys like Amari Allen, Isaiah Evans, etc will probably go back to school if they aren't projected in top 20.

That's why you pick guys like Raynaud and Sanders that have exhausted their eligibility with those second round picks.

Raynaud can want the Bay Area with all his might, but he doesn't have a lot of leverage to block SA from picking him. I guess he could sulk and play like crap for a year or two as vengeance, but then we'd cut him and his NBA career would likely be over.

And yes we would have been pissed selling off Sochan for a 2nd, that's why I say hindsight. Clearly no one was advocating for that in the off season. Most of us thought he was a decent candidate for an extension of some sort. As I said earlier on this thread, the move of the year for the front office was being patient there and not tying up 10-15 million a year in him.

Most of the second round now is pre negotiated. I think the athletic did a story on it. Guy like Raynaud could just go to Europe and make way more than the two way we offer.

Anyone know why Carter didn't get run until late? Clearly wasn't hurt so it was either being in doghouse or a classic Mitch forgetting he's down there somewhere on the bench situation.

I think it is kind of hard to have a 10-man rotation and Barnes/Julian/Devin/Keldon were all +16 or better.

Meanwhile with the other Rookie:

Oh come on now. Tonight was the perfect night to sit Barnes second half and give all the run to Bryant.

Then on the other end they called Castle with his 5th.

Then Wemby went supernova including dunking on half the Suns so it worked out.

Here you go:

I absolutely love it when Wemby flexes on 'em

Would have been nice to see more meaningful minutes, but no one played over 25m. I think they wanted to get back towards a typical rotation in the first game back from a week+ break. And don't bench the rotation guys if they aren't playing bad.

I would bet there was some sort of an extension talk, and I wonder just how low the Spurs offer was. I don't think the Spurs just didn't offer him.

Jovic got 4y62. Jaylin Williams got 3y24. Keegan Murray got 5y140M because the Kings are the dumbest franchise in existence.

Rest of the games around the league weren't super great for us, except the Clippers beat the Nuggets.

Lakers/Wolves tied for 5th/6th place. Clippers are a game and a half up on GSW for 8th place.

Our ideal seeding imo is if Spurs stay at 2, Rockets get 3 and Nuggers/Wolves are 4/5.

Houston, Denver, Lakers, Minn are all separated in the 3-6 seeds by 1 game. Something to watch.

Today the Hawks and Nets played. Nets were up 104-97 with about 5 minutes left.

Hawks scored the last 18 points in a row to win 115-104.

The jazz think something needs to be done about the egregious tanking by the Nets.

Been reading through the draft talk and maybe I missed it but has no one mentioned Yaxel Lendeborg?
6'9"
7'4" wingspan
Good rebounder
Good defender
Only 30% from 3 but has a good FT %
Older but could probably contribute earlier than some of the others mentioned.

I liked him early. Physically, he seems like the fit we would need at PF, but he has only shot ~27% from three against Big 10 competition. He will be 24 when the season starts next year - older than Paolo Banchero. He's tall, elite wingspan, but it will come down to what you think his shot actually is. With his age, it is unlikely that he develops into much more of a shooter than he is. I think in the NBA, he is probably going to be a 15mpg role player.

Hannes Steinbach might project to be more of a shooter (despite low volume) but he also might be more of a center than PF.

Koa Peat has a lot of the physical and athletic markers we would want, but he can't shoot.

Thomas Haugh at Florida will be 23 when the season starts. Shooting 35% on 5 attempts per game. He is a bit skinny. However, he has a huge motor and would do anything asked of him and has big game experience.

Chris Cenac at Houston has all the measurable AND he can shoot. But questions remain about his motor and drive.

Karim Lopez would be a fan darling, but has shot questions, too.

Trading back and getting Joshua Jefferson from Iowa State may work well. He is kind of a smaller, smarter Julius Randle with a better shot. Good passer/connector. Probably not that athletic.

I think going with a pure shooter like Keaton Wagler or Cameron Carr isn't out of the question. Will just make it more difficult to address PF. Against most matchups, we will be fine with Julius and Carter playing PF then add a veteran like Dean Wade or Kenrich Williams to the mix with part of the MLE. That would give us more of a logjam at wing, but if we add the shooter we need, it might be worth it.

Tonight game will be a great litmus test as to where this franchise is as far as competing for a chip this year.

I think we CAN hang and even beat Detroit but Wemby, Fox, and Castle need to be ON tonight.

Kind of weird stat you will probably hear tonight on the broadcast:

Detroit is the only team in the NBA that Wemby has no blocks against.

https://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/202401100DET.html

He has only played against them once in his rookie season and had a triple-double against them in just 21 minutes.

That was the the last game before his 101-game block streak started.

This team better figure out how to play when the game gets physical. Refs letting Detroit get physical and we are folding to it.

Refs are letting a lot go on Detroit's end to then turn around and call something ticky tack in our end.

First time watching the Pistons this year. What a bunch of jackholes. Quickly moving up my most hated list. Love that the boys aren't backing down from their ridiculous fouling and no calls from the refs.

That sequence by Castle! Lock up Cunningham, block his shot, cross over and one on the other end. Ridiculous!

Hey Mitch. You can't let Cade play the whole fourth with five fouls. ISO his ass every trip and go to the rack.

He's a mental midget on D. He's gonna foul out if you put him in the blender

Detroit grabs and holds nonstop, every single possession, and then we get a cheap offensive foul because holland runs in to Vassell.
Guitarsoup

Refs doing everything they can to get Detroit back in the game. Even the Detroit TV guys are saying these are flops.

Can't challenge plays like this. It obviously is not a foul but the refs are going to say they are right because there is contact every time.

DR had both hands fully around Vassell's arms. How is that not a foul?
