Rough Earth Snake
Must be the season. Got one out of our pool this morning too. My dog was aggressively helping so no chance for a picture but looked identical to yours.
My wife found this guy inside the chicken coop today, sitting comfortably over the egg hutches. I don't have much experience in snake removal other than shooting the damn thing. I'll try to get him out with a rake and push him out the coop door. But, I now have to find how he got in there. I built this coop a few years ago and thought it was pest/predator proof. And, my wife refuses to grab the eggs until this guy is long gone.

Wrangled my first copperhead of the year yesterday. No pictures as I didn't have time to grab something with a camera. It was a pretty mellow snake. No striking.
Put on a work glove and grab it. Those rat snakes are pretty harmless once you have it behind the head firmly.

Golf clubs work well as makeshift snake handling sticks. Make you look like a pro and would let you grab tail instead of head.
I would suggest a 4 iron. If the snake's lie is bad, maybe a 5.
When I was a kid, I made my own with an old wooden broom stick and a screw in tree stand step that had basically 3 sides of a square. It wasn't perfect but it damn sure did the job

I'm not sure. I also see a faint checkered garter pattern when I zoom in, but it's kinda low res on mobile. This is assuming it's in Texas.

In that area you would expect red sided garter or intermediate between Eastern and red sided garter... 12fmane could shed more light.

Thank you for asking and thank you to ttha Aggie 09 for posting pic and texting with me.
She got bit on the finger. My wife was able to get her to the hospital within 20 mins or so. They gave her 10 vials of anti venom. The picture I got this am still looked rough but her pain and swelling have greatly improved. Both headed down. They may keep her one more night.
I am 6hrs away on an annual trip with best buds from ATM. I was told on the phone that it was a copperhead. They had sent a pic to chat gpt. When I got the pic, I knew, because of this thread, that it was a baby cotton. Banding wasn't pronounced enough for copper. I just couldn't get anyone to send me a pic of the mascara to really confirm. I also knew it didn't really matter as the treatment was the same.
Thanks to all that contribute here. My snake IQ and attitude has greatly improved over the last 5-6 years.

Some sort of water snake is all I can guess. Was in a pallet in Houston.
