This is why I like battlefield. I'm not a great shooter so my kills are always low. But I can heal and repair like a badass.

2042 was insanely bad when it first came out. They just patched it and this new map along with the game seemed entertaining enough for a mindless play for the next couple months, especially since they've got a free battle pass going with unlocks for Battlefield 6. The game does take up 100gb which is also insane.

EDIT - nevermind, some of the 2042 unlocks are BF1 and 4 themed.

It's tiered unlocks that are homages to the old games for the new game. The first one is 4 skins for Battlefield 1, second one is BFV, third is BC2

So one thing I keep seeing a bunch of people who are old-school battlefield players complaining about is the maps. They are complaining that the mats are too small, but when I think back maps like operation, Metro and op locker are some of the most popular battlefield maps of all time.

I don't understand people complaining about the maps, when the most popular maps are some of the tighter ones.

Only map I didn't like on beta was NYC. That was too small, the capture points were too bunched, and there were no vehicles.

Agreed, kinda started to groan when it selected that one. They made it it more of a vertical camp fest and I don't enjoy it.

Also don't care about cosmetics that much I'm good with just bf4

I do think the "big" maps are definitely too small, but the much bigger issue is how they funnel everybody through 3-4 narrow choke points on those maps. It totally negates what Battlefield is about in my mind. I think back to Battlefield 4 and Battlefield 1, which were the two played a lot, and those maps were freaking massive, with total freedom to attack and defend objectives from whatever angle you could dream up. That element is largely gone.

Updates

They're nerfing movements like the super unrealistic slides and all the people spam jumping. They're also nerfing the shotgun (thank god).

The things that have me concerned is they hint at actively increasing or decreasing max players allowed on a map based on a variety of factors. It may be the old head in me but just leave it at max 32/64 and call it a day.

It sounds like they're not giving into the massive streamers for now which is a good thing and they're intentionally taking away CoD players ability to slide all over the damn place.

They also promise much larger maps at launch

Some maps would play more like battlefield with less players, that's not a negative. Bad company 2 was 24 on console.

Agreed. For me, peak battlefield was on the 360 which (I think) maxed out at 32 players in BF3. They simply shrank down some of the 64 player PC maps and it was great.

Just based on what I saw in the beta, feels like they are still doing that. Some maps will easily support 64 players, but they can also shrink the same map down to support smaller skirmishes.

I think there is an in between somewhere. Playing bf4 again on large maps the points are crazy spread out so it's a little annoying and harder to find people. BF6 is constant action. I think there can be a fun in between.

Regarding the closed Va open weapons, I'm okay if they reverse and close all weapons. Let you add different sights and accessories but limit the weapon types to specific classes which is has always been in older BF games

Seems like they make have made destruction a bit too powerful. Most maps will be just fighting in rubble within the first few minutes of the match starting.
