Really impressed by Woodman. Dude has barely played for us and came on during one of the biggest matches of the year. He had a few close calls, but he handled his position with the poise of Alisson. The team played better with him at the back, as they could easily trust him to receive the ball, control his touches and make simple passes.

I wish him a speedy and full recovery. But I hope Woodman gets a game or two. He looked confident with his feet and brought some calmness to the defense bc he could be trusted with his distribution. Big cajones on the guy to come into a big game (a derby no less) and put in a solid performance like that. Two GKs down is par for the course this season for us

Yeah it looked pretty painful/gnarly. I'll be honest though I hope Mamardashvilli is back, then Alisson comes back. There's a reason Woodman is a third choice goalkeeper. He wasn't tested at all from a shot stopping perspective outside of one half chance from a super tight angle.

And quite frankly I couldn't care less about distribution of the ball coming down the stretch. Just keep the ball out of our own net right now, and I think Mamardashvilli is quite good as a shot stopper. And with the way we are playing I think we're going to have to have some world class saves.

Rumours are picking up that Juventus want Alisson. I usually don't take anything as gospel in terms of Liverpool news until Paul Joyce or David Ornstein says it.

We know that Mamrdashvili did not sign n to be a backup for longer than a season... But I, personally, think it would be a huge blow to lose Salah, Robbo, and Ali in one go. If true though, I think it all but confirms Slot will stay for next season.

In terms of the team, it basically does away with the last of the "leadership committee" we have had and just leaves VvD. I would assume Szoboszlai becomes the vice captain now?

IMO, Alisson is easily the best GK in world football when he's healthy. It will be tough to move on from him, but it definitely feels like management are clearing out big contracts. This team clearly needs first-11 help at most positions, and continuing to pay big wages to your GK who can't stay healthy isn't going to help a rebuild.

Idk how true or real that list is. Spotrac is pretty reliable for MLB, not sure about EPL. If it is true, the real criminal one on that list is Cody Gakpo....

And Szoboszlai is underpaid. As is Curtis Jones. I would assume Konate is gonna get a big pay day.

I really think and get the feeling that because Andy and Salah are leaving, that the Liverpool front office and FSG want to start something new. They want to begin a new era of football and one of the best/easiest ways to do that is to sell or allows players from the previous generation to leave.

Alisson is an odd case too, because he is still a world class keeper (when on the field), although I'd argue his distribution of the ball has dipped a bit as he's entered his mid 30's. He's always had moments in games or seasons of either disaster or near disaster with the ball at his feet, but he would also reward you with an out ball that was pinpoint leading directly to a goal, but I digress.

His situation is unique though because of the fact that he is aging, and nowadays he is going to miss upwards of a dozen games a year it feels like. On top of that he's been very outspoken before about not wanting to play forever (like Neuer) and that he's interested in either going back to Roma or even to Brazil to finish out his career. That to me screams he doesn't want to play much past 35, if at all, and would like to do it at a place where the pressure is significantly less. Thus, this is a pretty prime time to move on for both he and Liverpool imo.

It is a ton of guys moving on, but unlike last summer, this summer will be moving on from guys that are aging, don't play as much as they use too, and don't quite fit into the future of the team. Last summer I felt like was selling to make money.

My only issue with losing Allison is that Mama doesn't look comfortable with his feet. I think Liverpool will want to always play possession based football (whether it be Slot or Xabi) and to excel in these situations you need a GK who is comfortable with receiving the ball under pressure and making short and intermediate passes. Mama doesn't look natural with the ball at his feet and I question if he can be a GK of an elite team without improving this ability. He really didn't have to do this with Valencia who were bottom of the table, or currently with the Georgian national team. Liverpool might be the first club to force him to use his feet in pressure situations. I think it is possible for him to improve, but at his current skill level he typically abandons short passes within the first few minutes of the game and just starts bombing it down field at the slight hint of pressure. We don't really have a target man on the team, so that's not going to work well with our possession based philosophy.

He's definitely going to have to work on it. The bright side imo is that I think you can improve that skill a bit simply by playing every day and getting comfortable in a team that needs to play like that. Some players are naturally great with their feet (prime Neuer again), and then others have to work on it more, but it can be improved.

Also, and this will sound like a cop-out a bit, but I do think there are small nuances to playing with right-footed keepers for so long, and then suddenly your primary backup and future keeper is left-footed. Going to take some adjusting by the backline to putting passes in the right spot for a left-footed keeper.

Tea leaves with many players potentially leaving. And all the reports, narrative (including Ornstein) have had and continue to have Slot coming back no matter what. Slot has said that they will need to sell to buy...nothing ground breaking here. But boy is this setting up to make last year's turnover look like nothing. Will be interesting to see how this all shakes out.

Kinda makes you wonder why they didn't do most of the heavy lifting so-to-speak last summer, and made this summer more of a finishing touches type of summer. Especially considering this summer there is a World Cup.

You can add RB to the summer shopping list as well if we're not going to use Frimpong in that spot.
