Slot is going to be under some crazy heat and he should be. He's been absolutely horrendous. We've been awful against set pieces for a good bit, there's no identity, no change, not nothing. The defense has completely gone out the door under him.
I'd have a contract on Andoni Iraola's desk tomorrow. It seems pretty obvious he has no clue what he's doing right now with rebuilding this team. Absolutely none. He's bit off more than he can chew here.
Yeah, that was clearly a combo of hyperbole and frustration all at once. Please accept my apologies for yesterday's half hazard rants!
Not so irrational at all actually… 3 pts out of 10th and down to 3 GD. Slot looks completely overmatched. At this point, I just hope we get it together and somehow finish top 5. They are not one right now.
And I get that the players aren't playing well, but they aren't playing well because they have no identity. They have no plan, no shape, and are putting square pegs in holes all around the pitch.
I think a bit of pressure on the manger is necessary for this team to improve. I'm not sure we need a massive tactical switch, its more that we just need to play the right guys. Slot has spent the entire year rewarding legacy and not form. Guys like Chiesa, Jones, Frimpong, and Hugo have worked really hard on the pitch, while Salah, Isak and Macca are coasting on past achievements. We've hit an official crisis point and the manager needs a kick in the ass. I think it would be harsh to bin him so quickly after a season where he pulled all the right strings, but his "passive" approach to management is leading to passive performances on the field. Hopefully Arne is smart enough to figure this one out or it could get ugly.
Yeah but it's not just guys not in form. The defense is in absolute shambles and we continue to be dreadful against set pieces. On top of that we have absolutely no midfield.
He refuses to do anything other than his stupid 4-2-3-1 which we don't fit in any way shape or form anymore. Literally go to a diamond in midfield. Do anything.
I think he doesn't know what he's doing and is in over his head. These players didn't just get bad over night…they aren't being utilized correctly. They aren't being utilized almost at all.
When you bring as many new players in as we did you have to adjust to the guys you have, not make them adjust to you. We could play like we did last season because we had Trent sitting back and picking passes all over the field and a front line that got after your ass in the press/attack. We don't have that this year yet we are trying to play the same way.
Not only that but we brought in completely different players than we had last year. We brought super wide attacking wingbacks, number 10 who needs the ball in final third and strikers who need to be included.
Idk what's going wrong on defense…probably the lack of midfield but also a complete lack of confidence.
I really enjoy the tactical side of football, so here's a video of a guy explaining why going to a diamond 4-1-2-1-2 (or its variants) could really benefit this team right now.
It wouldn't be perfect, but I think it would mask wing deficiencies/take advantage of attacking wingbacks, solidify the midfield by giving us another option to break the press, and allows for Wirtz to operate in the areas he needs to be.
The only downside is that you're going to have to ask Salah, Gakpo, Isak and Ekitike to swallow some pride, because those four guys are playing for two spots. Good news is that we have a ton of game upcoming and everyone is going to play a lot.
My worry is that Slot is stuck in delusional land and believes we're not playing that bad and that we're "close", when in fact we are so far off it.
Mamardashvili Frimpong Konate Van Dijk Robertson Jones Szoboszlai Wirtz Isak Ekitike Gakpo
I have absolutely no idea how this is going to look, but excited to find out. For what it's worth, I think Gakpo could play a left sided midfielder in a diamond, or even a 442.
"Ryan is not available for the Frankfurt game, hopefully he will be available at the weekend. But it's an ankle injury, we have to wait and see, give him a bit of time and see where he is when we come back from Frankfurt."
We're so unbelievably compact on offense. We have absolutely zero width. Slot needs to tell some of these guys "if you so much as sniff the 18-yard box you will not be on the pitch"
