The chron has absolutely milked the **** out of this. Probably averaging a dozen posts a day about it. They can't let it end.

Its what you want to talk about. What other thread on the Houston board has 180 comments in 10 days?

with this username you should probably stay off this thread

Perhaps the city can sell ads on crosswalks to overcome the deficit.

This crosswalk brought to you by St. Arnold's Brewery - Don't Drink and Drive.

Atheists of Houston - You Cross, We Walk.

Entering Crypt Territory ....

Crosswalks Against Distracted Driving ...

Ten Commandments ....

Rainbow Lodge ...

One more win for the bigots.

Texas is governed by anonymous Tik Tok accounts and Ron Desantis.

I personally don't care about this issue, but calling people bigot because they don't want a road crossing painted in the LGBTQ flag colors seems a little over the top.

If Greg Abbot doesn't want to be called a bigot, he should stop being a bigot.

Where are the crosswalks that celebrate straight people

When is Straight Pride Month?

It doesn't really work to say "we just want to be treated the same as everybody else and be given the same opportunities" while also taking every available chance to say "LOOK AT ME! NOTICE ME! I AM SPECIAL AND DIFFERENT!!!"

When were people beaten or prevented from having a romantic partner publicly because they were straight?

Paul Broussard '87 was murdered in a gay bashing just 5 blocks from this intersection.

Yep. It was terrible.

The crosswalks are irrelevant to that.

We really referencing bashings that happened 34 years ago as some relevant point to the current situation for gays in America today?

How about the Hillcroft crosswalk at High Star?

What historical significance does it hold?

Well since the crosswalk issue is about removing "distractions" and "safety hazards" from roadways, I'm sure they'll get right on it to remove this one, too.

When you drive around Houston, I'd bet the gay crosswalks are probably in the top 1% as being easy to see and clearly marked and well looked after which makes the 'safety' point hilarious.

If they are gay crosswalks, can just gay people cross there? I'm so confused. And if you cross the street there does that make you gay?

Charges dropped against all the protestors:

Don't care much about the crosswalk, but I do wish they would prosecute any person purposely blocking any road for any reason.

Some groups get a pass. They can even block 288 to protest when a drugged up felon who once held a loaded gun to a pregnant woman's belly is killed by police in another state.

I think those are helados flavors in honor of a 75 year old vendor who was killed pushing his cart across the street when a stolen box truck came speeding thru.

Only if they were the wrong color combo. White and black, nope. White and brown, mostly okay. White and yellow, maybe okay. Yellow and brown, who knows. Black and brown, nobody cares.

This is a weird flex all the way around. This feels like a "pick your battle" situation. Monroe is full of gays. It's THE gay part of town. Is having a rainbow crosswalk….thats already painted mind you….really a big deal? Is it really worth burning up more money to remove it? I dunno. I guess I feel there are bigger fish to fry than freaking out over it. Maybe as I get older I just don't care about such frivolous matters. It reminds me of fighting with a toddler over eating a Hershey kiss before dinner. Just not a fight worth having. I also don't care if gay people move in and smoke pot and stay stay high and wear rainbow thongs outside. I mean, you do you, and I'll do me, and all is fine.

Yeah, I'm a conservative evangelical Christian, but I wish we'd fix potholes and traffic lights instead of ripping out crosswalks, and I'd rather share my words, deeds, and thoughts with children instead of posting religious laws on their classroom walls.

what a terrible analogy!!

It is absolutely worth it to deny petulant children sugar bombs before dinner.

You probably coddle your little yappie fur baby and let it sh@t and piss all over puppy pads, too.

In all seriousness, I think it is awesome to watch heads literally explode because this crowd is being told to get bent and get over it for a change instead of being praised for some atypical learned behavior they want to be celebrated for.

Yeah, I'm 53, and I basically see so much stuff being run by millennials who possess zero intellectual curiosity, haven't produced any adult children, may have slightly above average IQ's, and just want to throw down over the stupidest crap. It's a sad answer to the search for meaning.

I do no such thing. I take it to my neighbors yard to drop a morning deuce on their sidewalk while I stare into their ring doorbell passive aggressively before walking off…like a good Houstonian.

Yep, you can block roads in honor of dope peddling violent career criminal POS like George Floyd who OD's during an arrest...hell, during the height of a lockdown, the scientific and medical community will even confirm it is ok to protest and riot en masse, as long as it is for such a 'noble' cause...but see what happens if you did the same because taxes were too high, or because so many illegals and foreign born immigrants are on welfare/food stamps, draining the system.

Pretty sure a bunch of mostly white ppl blocking roads after Charlie Kirk's assassination would have been met with a different level of force....and certainly would have been perceived differently by the media and powers that be.

Yes, modern gays are by far the most annoying, self absorbed, and petulant minority group to ever exist. Paint over all of their stupid sh**. I wasn't this way 10 yrs ago. But they have gone full throttle with the fruity in your face BS since then. They all weep and gnash teeth when you remove gay cartoon p0rn books like "Gender Queer" from grade school libraries. Zero sympathy. But I will acknowledge there are a few exceptions in the LGBTQ commmunity, who hate all of this BS and wish it would go away. They are the only cool ones in my book.
