Not a boomer, but my mother is and this will be a very welcome relief for her. She's been on fixed income with little savings and a **** ton of inflation. A lot of that unfolded because my parents put 2 kids through private school in a horrible public school location versus savings for themselves. Neither was college educated but made damn sure their kids would be. Keep in mind there were no tax advantaged systems in place to help them out like young families today enjoy. You get to save thousands currently and this break will only equal a few hundred bucks for her.

So maybe some of you need to relax a little and extend some grace to people who really did follow the American dream. Not every boomer is wiping their ass with greenbacks and smoking Havanas while fleecing the system.

Funny how that generation started the "just two kids" thing. That part of the "American dream" means now we don't have the population to support the Ponzi schemes they voted into place. Don't get mad when people today don't want to pay for it.

Damn... yet another handout afforded by those of us who pay taxes.

Yep, I'm the taxpayer here and not the receiver even though I'm a boomer.

We need to fundamentally reset government to eliminate the picking of winners and losers.

Flat tax. No exemptions. Only carve out is for those below the poverty line.

No senior bonuses. No college loan forgiveness. No double-dipping with SNAP and free school lunches. No hedge fund favorable tax treatment (cap gains instead of income tax). The list goes on and on...

Flat tax based on revenue, not profit?

Who do you think needs help more in life? The young family starting out or the people who have had 40+ years to work and build savings?

Don't you think your statement would have been just as apropos if this was 1980 or 1940 or 1900 or 1860? Young folks in those time periods must have managed or you folks wouldn't be here. Right?

The youth of today are competing with tens of millions of foreigners that they didn't have to compete with previously. There are entire towns in Texas that are nothing but Indian. This has caused a large delta between home prices vs income now versus previously due to the increase in demand. Additionally young white men have essentially been frozen out of the job market (as well as a lot of top schools and programs). If you think these things do not add to the growing uproar of the younger generation then you're either simply unaware at best, which is fine, or you're completely ok with this at worst, which is not fine.

Couple that with massive inflation in other areas and the dollar simply doesn't go as far as it used to. Outside of not having as much disposable income as I would like, it doesn't affect me much. I own a nice home and have a good job, but my industry is largely immune to the diversity pressure.

The nation has been stolen from the young white men and you're seeing the effects of it. What has been done to that generation is not ok.

I've got three sons in that generation and they are doing just fine. Making progress toward a better standard of living -- one step at a time -- just like their dad did, and his dad before him.

Plenty of challenges, but they focus on overcoming them instead of adopting a victim mentality and blaming other generations.

There are many young people who are on the path to economic security. Some of the others who aren't might want to look at what their peers are doing and emulate them instead of pointing at older people and blaming them.

Which has a bigger effect on young folks today ? Someone constantly and negatively identifying and reinforcing all the reasons they can't succeed or identifying and reinforcing positive reasons why they can. Your entire response is a great example of the former. Why not try the latter?

So you say he is wrong? Or is what he said dead on true?

If the latter (the correct answer), to fix it you would have to destroy that accumulated "wealth" in many folks homes, not just boomers, in order to subsidize housing for those demanding to live in suburban A++ five star schools in an all brick, brand new starter home on the cul de sac nearest the community and amenity centers.

Feels a bit like socialism and a bit like uber entitlement-ism.

Trump is right. Let Trump fix it the right way.

As a boomer I totally agree. I hated handouts to healthy able people then and I hate'm now. But I still want I was forced to payout in SS. That was my money they jacked.

Neither should be benefitting from this stuff.

I don't know how governments around the world see how pissed off Millennials and Gen Z are and then do as little as possible to make their lives a little easier. There are actual revolts happening around the world over the lack of attention to the younger generations' economic issues.

The boomers and elderly have been given enough. Kick them to the curb and start working for younger, struggling citizens.

Or else.

Yea and its wrong. Housing is expensive in both the US and Canada because demrats let millions in in a short time to change our demographics so they could have power further increasing demand when covid lockdowns prevented construction and reduced relative supply in a time of a population surge due to mass immigration

BTW libtards, isn't mass increased population from 3rd world nations bad for the enviro given 1st nations use much more energy? Just a thought and an example of libtard hypocrisy.

Also there is pressure on the raw materials used to build housing especially good lumber, never mind copper, asphalt, masonry products.

Tell you what you want to decrease prices then decrease demand- deporting what y'll flooded us with is a good start.

I'm not disagreeing, but when liberals come in here and criticize government spending on boomers (or whoever), they don't have a leg to stand on. They need to sit down and shut up.

Well as a parent to those young people I see their point. A "starter home for me was 80K with a 9.9% mortgage and an income of half as much as measured in 2024 dollars

My daughter is gonna have to spend 650K just to get what I paid for my second typical 4/3 upgrade for a "new kid" type home. Doable but much harder.

When the RMD's kick in those that planned and saved for comfortable retirements will be paying plenty of taxes . This does support your point about Roths vs traditionals but a lot of people worked half their lives before Roths were even available or understood .

The real problem is fed government spending and unless and until that gets cut to the bone as I believe the Constitution calls for we'll continue to see inflation and high taxes for productive people to pay for a lot of nonsensical garbage .

Well that SS, I was, FORCED, to pay into. So how is that a break? I've never had a break. Built my own business, didn't get into a bunch debt, paid my taxes and contributed to the economy. Why should you take the SS I was forced to pay in. Thats more my money than yours.

Just stop with the pity party. Nobody that worked and raised kids without using "the system" got a break. None. Gov has always been a head wind to my goals and everyone who wants to get ahead. I never wanted to pay into SS. I wanted to invest it long term. So why should you have it ?

The beauty ot having a good day job is being able to make more money than I'll ever need, even after spending money like water, while being able to post on here whenever I want.

It really is easy to have it all if you put the work in when you're young, that is.
