GenX/Millenials are the majority of Congress with a veto-proof 2/3 majority. They can force a vote on something if they want. It just happened in the House with a discharge petition over the objection of the Speaker.

Again, you don't have to wait on boomers for anything. Take charge with the majority you have.

That's hard work, and I think many simply find it easier to blame boomers. Whatever.

Let's break down the age distribution of Congress, using the following generational definitions:

  • Silent Generation (Gen V) = born 1928-45
  • Baby Boomers (Gen W) = born 1946-64
  • Generation X = born 1965-80
  • Millennials (Gen Y) = born 1981-96
  • Generation Z = born 1997-2012
The current generational breakdown of the House of Representatives:

  • Silent: 17 (3.9%)
  • Boomer: 164 (38.1%)
  • Gen X: 181 (42.0%)
  • Millennial: 68 (15.8%)
  • Gen Z: 1 (0.2%) = Maxwell Frost (D-FL)
  • Vacant seats: 4 (CA, GA, NJ, TX)
And for the Senate:

  • Silent: 6
  • Boomer: 61
  • Gen X: 29
  • Millennial: 4
For the Supreme Court:

  • Boomer: 5 (55.6%)
  • Gen X: 4 (44.4%)
And of course, President Trump is a Boomer.

So, counting by branches of the federal government, the score is:

  • Boomers: 2.5 (83.3%)
  • Gen X: 0.5 (16.7%)

You're barking up the wrong tree.

Boomers make up 25% of the voting population in the US. That means GenX, Millenials, and GenZ are approaching 75%.

You guys are calling the shots. Why don't you elect younger people if that is what's important to you?

The ball is in your court. Take it.

Maybe it's just easier to blame old people instead of taking ownership. Whatever.

As a confirmed old fart, I like all the discounts and rebates.

But let's be honest. I don't need them now. I needed them when I was younger and supporting a family.

It's never been harder for young career and family starters than it is now. But let's give the wealthiest class a little extra.

The boomerfare has to stop at some point.
What a dumbass comment. This is for seniors making less than $75K or MFJ filers making less than $150K. You think that's the wealthiest class?

What is the demographic of 18 to 34 year olds in america? That will be a large part of the answer.

Actual statistics on this issue that point out the exponential increases in the cost of food and shelter vs. average wages have been pointed out on this forum for years.

There's no point in continuing to argue this point with them. Their sample size of "my grandson" or "my nephew" will trump anything you bring to the table.

Depending on how you measure it, food is cheaper now. But, of course, delivery, starbucks, and eating out can make this much higher.

Housing is the monster, only partially offset by more dual incomes and that comes with a lot of disadvantages, particularly when raising kids.

I'm on your side of this discussion with one qualification, don't confuse income and wealth.
