Ring would replace Helmuth in the rotation.

I would say more of Lednicky. She can play all around like Kyndal

I mean yes, she's 6 rotation player but she would replace Helmuth's spot in the rotation, not Lednicky.

She should definitely replace the point production of Logan for sure. She put up over 34 points against Louisville in the round of 32, taking them to 5

having two productive OHs is important but we need similar output on the right side. hopefully someone shifts over or one of the youngins can be productive over there.

Or Morrison gets a top OPP in portal…. It sure who's available? I think we look good otherwise if we get the other middle that folks are expecting.

You would have to think he brings in a proven oppo. Unless fitch or ring goes in there, but they aren't necessarily elite blockers. Not sure what morris turns into, but she always seemed like a project kind of player(with tons of clear potential)

After the transfers we've already gotten, is it still likely Fitch sees a large increase in role next year? Not sure what a typical progression is in playing time

Fitch was my fan favorite of this year. I loved when she went in, you could see the potential right away. I honestly thought she had OH2 locked down until Ring was brought in. Now fitch goes back to first off the bench. Unless she just comes out blazing.

She also has perma smile, that kind that is contagious sending joy around the team. I haven't really seen her swing other than a couple warm ups, but I hope its explosive enough with a strong block to see her starting and being a key leader for a couple years on this team.

You could just play the worst passer of the 3 at Opp

As long as they are a culture fit…take all the top talent you can and let the cream rise.

Replacing Ifenna Cos-Okpalla and Morgan Perkins will be an insurmountable task, but adding two quality pieces from the portal is a start. Eliza Sharp was the number one freshman middle blocker in the country and is dynamite offensively. Kaia Castle led her team in blocks and has some extreme reach. Ohio State only won 6 games, but she was a bright spot on that team, around better players I bet she flourishes. She was the number 16 recruit in the nation in 2023.

That's also 6'3 and 6'4 at the middle blocking position. Cos-Okpalla and Perkins were 6'2 and 6'1. The height will be huge for us! Can't wait to see them be developed under this staff for the next 3 years.

2 spots left. Do they go for setter or DS

It'll be interesting. With Margot Manning coming off an injury, it would be great reassurance if we could have 3 setters. Not sure we go after a huge name, especially with Sophee Peterson coming in the year after. Jamie seems to be fine with 3 defensive specialists. Maybe an experienced opposite if ones available???

Honestly, it might not be as bad as we think. Ifenna is obviously not replaceable, but overall the size and blocking both bring in the aggregate might be able to make up for what Perkins lacked on the blocking side (although she was great in the tournament). Really excited to see how they look after a spring learning from Jamie and Co!

I think we should be fine at DS, especially since Ring should be able to play all the way around if needed.

What I'm more worried about it the mass of roster spots we're accumulating in our sophomore class. Could make it harder for the staff to effectively recruit/get transfers later on given that almost half of our roster is tied up in one class right now.

Is the thinking that one of Stowers, Fitch, or Ring moves to the Opposite position. Do we go after one in the portal? Or do we like an Opposite we already have on the roster?

We have Morris on the roster, although we could also have Fitch or one of the freshmen move over. I think it would largely depend on how well everyone develops in spring

if we start Morris as the Opposite, does that mean 2 of Stowers, Fitch, and Ring start in the back and the other is the starter at OH in the front? I enjoy watching volleyball but I'm new to understanding positions and rotations and I want to learn more. Thank you.

So there are 7 positions: 1 setter, 1 opposite, 2 middle blockers, 2 outside hitters, and the libero who subs in for whichever MB is in the back row. Your rotation is always set up so that you'll have 1 OH, 1 MB, and either the setter or opposite in the front row, and 1 OH, 1 MB (who is subbed out for the libero), and the other of the setter/opposite in your back row. Since there are only 2 OHs on the court at any given time, Fitch would likely only see action off the bench if Morris gets the start at opposite.

My hope is that Fitch fills that role as co captain even as sophomore and even if not starter.

Fitch is taller than Ring and Stowers. It could make sense to move her to opposite in the spring and have Fitch/Morris battle it out for the starting opposite role

Ring or Stowers playing opposite is interesting add ad well. There could be motivation from either player to be able to play both positions in order to have a better chance to play professionally

I wouldn't be too worried about that. It isn't significantly different than this year, and Jamie did a good job bringing in a quality freshman class and a phenomenal portal player this year.

It shouldn't have a significant impact In recruiting. 26 is signed, 27 is committed, and the 28 class won't make it to campus until this crop of soon to be sophomores are seniors.

I've tried to think about what I would want to have if I were a coach. Seems like you need at least 2 full squads to be able to do squad on squad practice.

In my mind, that would be 4 OH, 4 Middle, 2 Opp, 2 Setters, then probably 3-4 L/DS.

Recalling the rosters Jamie has had the last 3 years, we always seem to have some extra OH, we have been light on middles (especially in the spring) and we usually have about 3-4 L/DS. I assume because Jamie is pushing front row players to be well rounded volleyball players, that we practice them a lot in all 6 rotations, so 3 L/DS is good.

We seem to be pretty much there so I would think anyone else is going to need to be an upgrade.

The other thing to consider is we only have the one transfer running out of eligibility next year, so we also need to worry about space for the 27 class. That might lean towards keeping spots open or adding seniors who will expect immediate playing time. With the rule change to allow rotating 2 bros, L/DS seems like a spot where you could add for immediate playing time without keeping someone currently on the roster off the court.
