Meanwhile, Sims confirming what we all knew was the truth but wouldn't admit it. Pitchers who miss multiple turns late in the season are done. Facts.

And now they're saying he won't need Tommy John. Eyes rolling. Anybody wanna place odds? Very high chance once the season is over and the quietude and reality set in, he will choose this elective surgery. It's just the same story for the millionth time. Aiden saved our butts this season; I hope he makes the best decisions to save his own.

Frustrating season just accelerated to desperation. Frankly I don't think we have the arms to pose a serious threat of making Omaha and I've said as much all year. If Early produces a similar throwing squad next season it will be his last in Aggieland. No one knows that better than he does. Much of the offense will need to be replaced and that makes it twice as hard but this is the job he wanted so go and get it done.

This is just an amazing post. Talking about a team that is one win away from making a Super Regional. #12 seed in the tournament after entering the season predicted to finish 13th in the SEC. And your frustrated and accelerating toward desperation? I understand that some people place a lot of their identity on the success or failure of their favorite sports team but for crying out loud, this is college sports. Take some joy from it, my man.
People think I'm an idiot or something, because all I do is cut lawns for a living.

Two questions:
1) why do you think Kelly is gone?
2) can there be optimism about Sdao? Stating the obvious…but he's struggled so much this season. Is that a coaching issue?

I base 1 on talking to people in real life, not internet message board chatter. Kelly has options, is pretty broadly disliked (again imho) and isn't paid an absolute fortune to coach pitching here.

I base 2 on the fact that he does still have good stuff/capability, it just didn't come together this year in the SEC weekend starting role (and he would get left in after getting rattled). I think he's got all the skill to get comfortable, and blame some of that failure this year on number 1.

Could be wrong, but he's from Montgomery/is local and I don't think he transfers/goes anywhere, just a guess.

Never ceases to amaze me that people who claim to be big Aggie supporters can actively hope for the worst. Shelby Metcalf never spoke more true words.

And Earley isn't going anywhere. He's done a masterful job of coaching this year. We are in the Regional Finals tonight. Something none of us would have dreamed of the first month of the season, yet the pot bangers are still loud and proud.

I've stayed away from this board for the most part this season. Guess I should have stayed away a little longer.

Thankfully the season has had enough success that the doomers have largely stayed in their lairs or bogs or wherever they live. We all know they only come out when we drop a game or are struggling in an inning. Other seasons the Reddit game threads have been more refreshing in all honesty. They just aren't as populated unfortunately.

I finally got off my high horse last coupla seasons and just went on a banning spree. I pay for a Star, might as well use it. It's helped, a lot.

I'd do it more but to truly defeat your enemy, you have to try to understand their mindset. Of course a lot of them are still clinging to their misguided thoughts that we needed to fire Earley and can't fathom that they are wrong.

Makes no sense. Kid has the best stuff on the team but because he's struggled with throwing strikes a couple times, he doesn't pitch at all. I'd start him tonight.

Edit: even this page has 5 of them. Makes for some 1 sided conversations I'm sure with me not seeing their nonsense.

Our already slim chances of advancing past a Super basically just went kablooey.

Still, the kid got us here and we should be grateful. I'm fine with him getting sat down rather than risk blowing up that arm. The season is what it is, we've already progressed past where 90% of us reasonably expected and we owe a huge chunk of that to Sims. Best of luck Aiden.

Heartbroken but not completely broken. BTHO whoever tonight

remember 2 years ago the Ags beat Oregon in the super by scores of 10-6 and 15-9

great hitting and average-to-below-average pitching can be a winning formula

edit...especially with a good closer...and A&M has one

The way this team hit last night gives them a chance in every game. We wouldn't be the betting favorites, not should we, but there's a chance

Agree feels like a missed opportunity to not get more miles on the younger pitchers. Especially when the doubt of depth came into play with injuries.

The frequency and magnitude of pitching injuries suggest that this is more than just bad luck. So that questions the preparation beginning with offseason through the final game. Stretching, strength and conditioning, form, training, etc all comes down to the program and those running it. Does Kelly have to go? It appears that he is part of the problem. Does Early have to go? At the end of the day his future is driven by results and that includes his coaching staff. So, yes. If we're in the same position a year from now (a quilt-like hodgepodge of a depleted pitching roster) then 3 years of evidence will prove that Early cannot recruit, prepare and retain a pitching staff at the level required to compete in Omaha. Is that a guy we're willing to keep around? Not my decision but I think the answer is clear.

Maybe the new pitching lab will fix a lot of this. I certainly hope so. But Kelly has to go.

I don't understand your concern about throwing strikes. Based on the stats shown in last nights telecast and his two K's last night, Vincent is averaging 2 K's per inning pitched. I have seen a lot of his appearances and he does not have control problems.

In 9 innings he has 8 walks, 2 wild pitches and 5 HBPs. He's definitely had control issues.

He also has the highest potential stuff on our staff IMO. That's why giving him a chance to pitch through some things in low leverage spots is critical.

As we talk about scheduling and the need for lower tier opponents to get experience for younger players we have to remember that only works if you actually play the younger players.

Was not aware of that. So it looks like he either strikes out the hitter or walks or hits them. Still, pitch him more. We do not have much choice now. If we can't find more pitching we will not advance much more. Last night he pitched down and over the plate. I like that.

ETA, i like a pitcher with good stuff that can be unpredictably a little wild, but not so much that he hits batters a lot or the catcher can't catch it. I would give Vincent more chances this year.

Earley's words when asked about pitching at the Dugout Club during the season were, we know we need to raise the floor of our pitching staff and we will. The Player Performance Center is going to help significantly with that end.

Also for goodness sake enjoy where we are right now! Playing for a Regional Championship tonight. Don't underestimate this team.

Please post your pre-season prediction. Also, how in the world has this been a frustrating season?

Also…you want a coach to only get one more season after being picked 13th in the SEC in the pre-season, to being the #12 seed in the NCAA tournament?

He took the team from 14th in the SEC to 3rd in the SEC.

Do you want to know the names of the A&M coaches that have reached 40+ wins in their first two seasons as HC?

Johnson
Childress
Pineapple
Early

And you want to keep him on a short leash?

Interesting choice of stats ... So what you're saying is that every coach we've had on the last 40 years has accomplished this?

This team can still dogpile. The 4 decade long mental trajectory is way tougher to overcome than any pitching injury. Physical talent sets expectations. The gray matter determines whether you meet, fall short, or exceed them...over time. This team can dogpile.
