It's time to win again. Doesn't matter if it's ranked team or branch school. It's time to win. Unfortunately it's against one of the top teams in the nation and conference, fortunately a win can do more than stop the losing streak, it can put us back way ahead of the bubble.
Today at noon the Aggies will play on the road at Vanderbilt in their concoction of a basketball arena. Maybe it's weird configuration is just what the Aggies need to get back to winning. There is so much at stake, although a loss won't bury us since the metrics love Vandy. Obviously the tournament is in play, we are being floated around right now as a 9 or 10 seed. There is a huge cluster of teams in the sec with 4 or 5 losses, so a win would be enormous.
Vanderbilt has been playing strong recently with wins over Kentucky and Auburn, but between that was a loss to Oklahoma. Vanderbilt has been led guard Tyler Tanner who's been averaging almost 19 a game and that's only elevated as his running mate Duke Miles has missed some games and will be out tomorrow. Tanner is a 3 way scorer who has made some big shots for Vandy this season. A lot of their offense is ran through him. Guard Tyler Nickel is another player to worry about as he shoots 44% from three while scoring over 14 a game. Vandy can shoot well from three, they love to drive and kick.
Vanderbilt doesn't have a lot of size. Compared to the last few teams we've faced, Vandy plays one big man a lot in North Carolina transfer Jalen Washington who stands at 6'10. Aside from him, the biggest guys they play are 6'8 and 6'7. So we'll need to rebound well and attack the rim. I'm expecting a huge game from Rashaun Agee and perhaps Clemence and/or Vinson can find some success near the basket if they stay aggressive.
Against Missouri, we shot extremely well the first half but that hot start faded for most of the second half. I want to see a consistent shooting performance from deep. I also think we need to get back to the foul line a lot more. Yes it's fun when the threes are falling, but I want to see Marcus Hill, Pol Isaacs, Rylan Griffen, Jacari Lane, and Ali Dibba put the ball on the floor and get to the line. However, playing a smaller team, offensive rebounding could be a huge deal for us, especially three's off rebounds.
Although it's their first year together, this is a veteran team. Many of these guys have experienced wins and losses this close to March. 5 weeks from now the tourney will be down to 32 teams. We're getting closer to March. 7 conference games left. Each one is magnified. Fans emotions every where. I want to see us hungry, I want to see us running all over the court, I want to see us turn them over, and I want to see Bucky Ball be Bucky Ball. Let's turn this thing back around and BTHO vandy…
