We were just there with four kids over thanksgiving and zero issues. Shuttled to resort from airport and back five days later. Had a great time.

Just took the Mrs to Excellence Playa Mujeres for our 20th. Beautiful resort, great food (for AI), never felt unsafe in any way. Can't wait to go back.

Has anyone here utilized the Maya Train? Had a person suggest this to me last week as a great form of travel, but have never heard anyone mention this.

The last wording I have heard from one of the local TA's is that it isn't great to use within the city. I think if you are coming from another city it is helpful. Maybe from Merida to Cancun (trying to go off memory).

It was a great idea but terrible implementacion.

The train is expensive, it travels at the same speed as a car, it has a very limited schedule and the stations are FAR out of town expect for Merida.

ADO is far cheaper and more reliable and has more trips and It's the same time and you get dropped off in town or at the AirPort vs next to it in the middle of BFE.

Weve taken it from Tulum to Bacalar and we took it from Merida to Palenque but I wouldn't use it if I was a tourist.

It was highly recommended to me just recently. I had mentioned that I wanted to rent a car and tour the Yucatn Peninsula.

It won't help. Once You arrive anywhere, you'll need a rental car or to try your luck with the taxi unions. Weve never priced it out and ADO out and had tren maya even get close to the price or convenience. The operating costs have actually been so bad the town of Tulum had to take out a loan to cover them. The national govt isn't helping as promised (surprised?) Tren Mayas Days are numbered IMO and in the opinin of most of those that live here.

It couldve really been great but as built it's a total waste of resources.

It runs at about 10% of capacity and they can't figure Out why….

Yes, it's nice. We enjoyed the wine and cheese route there, and it had the closest HEB to CDMX. I don't know if I would make it my only destination if visiting Mexico, but adding it on to SMA or to the hot springs would be a good idea.

We like to do SMA, Queretaro, Tepoztlan, then night in CDMX then back to Tulum during the summer when it's so so so hot in Quintana Roo. Beautiful part of the country. Starts to get really sketchy as you venture off Carretera 57/110 though.
