Pretty much same situation. Might as well get something positive out of taxes.

First, I used my expenses to hit the bonuses on the SW Personal and SW Biz for a 2020-2021 CP.

I just got approved for a 100k MR after $10k spend on an Amex Biz Platinum, it took some effort because it's not published but it's possible.

After that, I'll be getting another CIP to finish off my Q1 expenses (Income tax, Home and Auto Insurance)

PM me if you want info. Shout out to culdeus for the assistance.

Are there fees to pay taxes with a CC?

Normally there's a 2-3% fee so they can recover whatever the cc processing fee is.

People talk about product changing a CC:

Regarding the Southwest Biz CC, can I call and have it changed to either Ink Business unlimited or Ink Business Cash to avoid paying an annual fee?

I think I'll float right under the AA shutdowns. But we will see. Good so far. I think spreading it out between my wife and I will hopefully work out well. Best wishes to those of you who are were more active. That was a hell of a run for some folks for sure..

We are working on United cards lately.

Normally you can't change out of third party cards.

If you aren't locked by now you probably are ok.

No product change options to a no fee card is the worst thing about the Chase Southwest cards. They should create a no fee SW card similar to United.

Yeah at least with their bonvoy cards the fee buys you a free night.

Still waiting to have my accounts on AA deleted. I went ahead and booked backup flights on all future award travel. It was a run.

Is anyone missing their SW Credit Card bonuses from statements that have closed recently?

I had both my SW Personal and Biz cards close on Jan 2, 2020 but still do not see the points or Companion Pass status in my account. It actually cost my wife and I $450 because we weren't able to book a return flight using the CP.

I did see this alert on my account: https://www.southwest.com/html/rapidrewards/tier-status.html?clk=4027119&cbid=4027119

That sucks. They do say it can take one to two cycles for the bonus points to hit. Mine don't close til the 25th so I'll find out then.

you signed up for the cards, hit the spend, but then closed cards before they bonus hit? That seems risky. They don't have to give you that bonus if you close the card (in fine print somewhere I'm sure)

Why didn't you keep them? You already paid the fee and it won't hit again for 12 months.

He means that the statement period closed. Not that he closed the account.

Correct. Points posted this morning - FYI.

ahh gotcha.. Yeh they cover themselves by saying it can take several weeks, though in my experience, it's usually the next day after statement closes.

On another topic, does anyone know of any website or app that you can put in your credentials for several reward accounts to see all your points in one spot? On top of that, being able to have two sets of credentials to show spouses rewards as well.

It would be nice to see the amount of points that my spouse and I have for southwest, united, marriott, etc. all on one dashboard.

Cool. I've always had points hit the day after the statement date. From what I recall, companion pass was very shortly after that.

That has been my experience as well. The points under my wife's name showed the same or next day back in 2017. Hopefully Amex will uphold my dispute; not betting on it but figured it was worth a shot.

Working through the spend on my Amex Biz Play. Next, I'm going to do a PC on my current CIP and apply for another then I'll cool it barring a can't miss offer.

There's no reason to PC the CIP unless you are a heavy manufactured spender.

Rumors that Chase will offer an elevated SW Personal card soon with additional perks. On referral today showing 75000 but if you call in and talk to reps about the offer without a referral they suggest waiting for an even higher public offer that is incoming. These rumors are obviously YMMV.

I'm not but rather get the $95 fee refunded then use the 5x on Ink Cash vs. 3x on Ink Preferred.

Well if you have a reason to organically use it for the 5x then yeah, that makes sense. Most people would tend to only use that 5x to manufacture with.

I'd like a recommendation for my next few steps since there are some seasoned folks on this board. I'm churning in 2 player mode.

Me (2/24, will be 1/24 in February)
  • Feb 2018 - Chase Hyatt (Authorized user becuase I was ignorant)
  • Dec 2018 - Chase Hyatt Dec 18
  • Mar 2018 - Amex Bonvoy Business Card
  • Jul 2019 - CIP #1
  • Oct 2019 - CIU
  • Dec 2019 DENIED CIC (called and they said it was due to too many apps, once again... ignorant, should have waited)

It was really dumb of me to apply in December and get denied due to velocity. Should I go for CIP#2 next after a couple more months of waiting?

Why would you not apply for the personal SW cards now? They are at an ATH level. Even if you don't go southwest often the SUB alone is worth $750 at Amazon.

Well... I had one of the SW Personal and Business cards in December of 2017 and had companion pass up until last week. Was going to do that with my wife in December of 2020. Kids are young and I had enough rapid rewards points left to book our flight for this summer. So I was going use my wife to get us companion pass for 2021 and 2022.

I mean Hilton biz is also at or near ath. You have a card you can refer to it?

Chase Sapphire Reserve annual fee increasing to $550 but no increase in $300 travel credit. Probably won't renew. Hopefully this doesn't become an industry trend.

Amex plat increased also. CSR is really best for 1.5x multiply. The travel credit is just funny money.

So the card is now $250. Not good.

When is the AF for the Plat increasing? My fee just hit at the same $550. I was going to cancel but they offered me 30k points to keep it open and I think I'm going to take it. I've gotten some incredible value from MR points this year and would easily come out ahead with 30k points plus the credits.

The CSR increase is disappointing. Lyft and Doordash aren't going to tip the scales in it's favor for a lot of folks, myself included.

The credits on the amex are not that great. It's just taking money from one hand to the other on chase, but with amex you need to dump it on crap you don't need.

Agreed, they're tough to use. I got airline gift cards last year, obviously that option is gone now. I'll use them towards baggage fees this year, so it's something.

I've read that, at least for AA, they'll still work on 500 mile upgrades.

I was able to get some airline gift cards previously, but I just use it to pay for early bird check-in with Southwest.
