Given the state of AA Mailers, Amex shutdowns, and other factors for the moment the only one true scam running is getting a CIP every 3 months or so. If you are under 5/24, there's no real defined reason to exit 5/24 status until Chase closes this loophole.
Is this because the CIP is considered a business card, so it doesn't count against the 5/24 rule?
Yes, and well it doesn't conform to any "One sapphire" rule, for the time being. Keep in mind I fully expect this loophole to close within the next 12 months or sooner.
How do you get one every 3 months? Do you close ones that you've opened? Or will they just issue you multiple accounts with the CIP?
I apply for them, not for 12 months, yes.

It's a loophole. Tread carefully.

Quick question. I opened the chase SWA personal card in November and will get a 40k SUB after $1k in spend. My closing date was 12/2/19. It says on my statement that my next statement period closes on January 2, 2020. Am I 100% safe to go ahead and do my spend now for it all (the spend and the bonus) to "count" for 2020 towards my companion pass so that it is good for 2020 and 2021? Or is that Jan 2nd date too close for comfort and should I just hold it and do my spend after new year's day?

I am in the same situation so bumping for confirmation from the group.

I believe the answer is you are good to go. It only matters that you hit the spend requirement on a statement that closes in 2020.

Do you need to use multiple EINs or SSNs each application? And is this not included in the 5/24 rule?

No. It doesn't seem to matter at all. That was the suggestion up until about Jan 2019. I usually just go with ein now for all biz apps. It can help with recon.

So same EIN and SSN and you can get multiple CIP? I've already churned through everything using just my SSN, but now looking to do the same using an EIN.

This was the consensus way to do this prior to 2019. Now the consensus is it doesn't matter what you use to apply. You can certainly go to the 2018 approach which would have you cycling EIN/SSN and between First Last and First Middle Last if you feel that this makes you more likely to get approved, it certainly won't hurt. But there are 100s of DPs that would indicate that first last SSN to infinity is fine for the moment.

Good to know. I'll reapply using just my SSN again. It's been well over a year since I first opened the CIP.

The AA miles thing is starting to come home to roost. It seems like they have cast a very broad net, and there will be at least some actions taken against some of us. Since for a lot of people literally the only churning they did was AA miles and the occasional one off bank offer this will hurt.

AA cards are that easy to churn? I may need to get my feet wet there. They have some really good redemptions when you can find SAAver fares.
If married you should be able to flip a biz card every 95 days (each person) earning roughly 160k miles every 95 days and every 60 days an additional ~65-70k.

If you care about 5/24 status then you are probably hardcapped at about 650k a year. (Again, using wife also)

If you don't care about 5/24 you can pull about 1.8Million a year if you really hustle. 1.5M is realistic.

They are not MS sensitive so if you have a way to turn gift cards into money orders you can do these for about ehhh maybe $35 in fees per card.
probably something related to this

Yeah. I think what happened was people were juicing up accounts and selling them to people using this method. Someone got carried away and got caught and they are reviewing all high mileage accounts now to see if they are doing anything suspicious and what they do is anyone's guess.

I mean if you were just intent on running a scam you could create your own AA account and get a series of cards or whatever and sell the accounts for probably .5cpp maybe. Who knows. That's a quick way to get everyone clipped. It's all fun and games till someone sells their points.

I applied my wife for the SW Performance to get ready to get companion pass in 2020, she got denied.

"Not enough accounts opened long enough to establish credit history."

She's had a personal account with chase since 2008. She's also had the CSP and the Hyatt card in her name. Both of them have been closed though. What should I do next to fix this? Would calling recon possibly push that through? I haven't called yet because she has the flu and doesn't want to do it right now.

I think that is your only option here. Give it a shot.

I don't think calling will hurt...

Can you add her as an Authorized User or Account Manager on any cards to give her a better history? What about her parents? It may take 30+ days, but I think she would get all the credit history associated with those cards (even from before you added her).

This is a good idea. If over 25 that usually is all it takes. Under 25 sometimes they want to see a payment history.

Good idea. She's never had a business card, but she's got plenty of personal card history. I'm gonna do that.

Anyone here getting caught up in the American Airlines shutdown? I have a flight booked to Maui on AA in a couple of weeks, but it looks like I have avoided the shutdown so far.

How do you know you avoided the shutdown?

It seems like they are manually reviewing accounts and doing it slowly. Just because your flight isn't cancelled, doesn't mean it won't be. I'm already looking at alternative plans for travel in March and this summer under assumption all my flights will be cancelled and I will lose all my points.

I don't know for sure. I have already booked a Southwest flight to Maui as a backup. Won't be in first class, but itll still get us there.

Yeah, good thinking. My guess is by the end of the week they lay down the hammer. I feel like there are going to be some people that don't follow this as closely that get blindsided by the ban.

Currently have a CIP that was opened in Jan 2019. Looking to sign up for a second for the 80k bonus as discussed in this thread.

I was approved for the SW Biz card late in October. Approved for SW Personal a few weeks ago.

Under 5/24.

Do I just apply for the CIP like normal? Can I self refer?

Yes to both, but I would wait at least another 2 months from today to apply. Before applying I would PC the CIP you do have to the CIC and cut the credit limit on it to $5k and also cut down the credit limit of the SW card to something on the low side as well.

I would sprinkle a few charges on the CIP you do have (cell phone plans and internet plans work well here) just to be safe for the time being.

I was hoping to have it in January for paying property taxes. Should I product change now then apply after the first of the year?

I pay our cell phone bill on it monthly so there are consistent charges.

I also have a rental property so it's a legitimate business on my SSN if that matters.

You are really going to be pushing up against velocity limits going about it in this way. Even if you get all your credit lines down, and have a legit biz, they still might deny you on velocity which is not able to be waived in recon. I mean if you don't mind taking a hard pull then give it a shot, and just try again 30 days later if you get a rejection no harm done really. I had to do that once when I had a big purchase. Luckily Amex was still there for me.

I mean if you are hell bent on applying, no don't don't do the PC unless that card has a high credit limit of $10k or more. 2017 advice would say PC, lower limit, and apply the next day early in the AM. This is now outdated, but since you are hell bent on applying may as well use old info.

yes, although they don't use this exact language in the rejection. They have 3 different terms they will use depending on what card you are applying for but it's easy to intuit it's a velocity denial.

I'm just starting on my churning journey, although I may not go all out like some people, but I have a question. I currently have the CSP card and I'm going to start looking in Jan. for another card to get more points. I have a big trip planned for xmas of 2020 so I need all the points I can to buy plane tickets for myself and kids. My question is if I go with something other than Chase, like Capital One Venture , would I be able to eventually merge ticket purchases together?

So basically, If I used my CSP points for 2 plane tickets and the COV points for another ticket, is there a way to book them all together so that the seats are together?

I dont think this is possible, it would be really tough to pull off. The Capital One Venture redeems its "miles" by using travel statement credits, the CSP you can transfer miles to airline rewards programs or book on their travel portal. You would have to book two separate tickets and then call the airlines and hope they change seats to have your family sit together.

Your best bet is to get another Chase Ultimate Rewards card like the Sapphire Reserve, Ink, or Freedom, and combine those Ultimate Rewards miles with your CSP. Or if you plan on transferring your CSP points to a specific airline like United or Southwest, you could get that specific airline branded credit card and combine those miles to book all at once.

I hope all of this made sense lol.
