The offense was supposed to be our strength this year, that's for sure. Again, I'm not sure how much to put on Bochy, though.
He moved Semien down to 7th (?), Adolis was benched, then moved down, CY sent Jung down, all kinds of moves. He tinkered with the lineup so much tthat here wasn't really a set lineup. Remember when we wanted Josh Smith, Wyatt, and Seager, 1-2-3, and we got them? It didn't last for long, I think, because of an injury to Seager.
He tried to right the offensive ship but they just didn't respond. I think we'll see a vastly different lineup this coming year. maybe going with a youth movement. (I saw somewhere that we had the oldest roster in MLB, mainly becasue of de Grom, Eovaldi, Martin, Milner, etc)
There were times this season that I put it all on Bochy. The way he handles the bullpen drives me nuts. He couldn't have squeezed more blood from a stone than he did innings out of Milner, who was toast by the middle of August. And he just kept trotting him out there.
CY has to take a lot of the blame, too. His trade deadline acquisitions weren't enough to get us over the hump. A bat (I was advocating for Steven Kwan) would have certainly helped, but I don't know how much.
We blew more saves than any other team in baseball, and still had the best staff. How about that?!
