Rumor is Ole Miss has a giant contract on the table for him.

Him talking to LSU and Florida might be a major troll job by him. He could leave them hanging right up to National signing day (Dec 3rd) and then sign the extension. It's what he does.

That would be the ultimate troll job. String along two rivals and leave them without a coach up to NSD. Then they both miss opportunities for other coaches and have to make hasty decisions. Could take years to recover.

This isn't going to last until NSD....his contract with Ole Miss is no longer on the table November 28th. He has to make a decision before the end of the regular season.

He is going to LSU or Florida, I promise you.

I don't want him at LSU. We have to play them every year.

I thought that was pretty well known, I heard it yesterday listening to all the media about this. His family (not him) was taking a tour of Gainesville Sunday and Baton Rouge yesterday and they expect him to decide by Thursday.

Why even fly your family all over the country at all?

He's purposely making a spectacle of it. Why?

Probably because Ole Miss twisted his arm with this ultimatum that he has to decide before the end of the regular season or they aren't going to let him coach the last game against Mississippi State. He has to make a decision and he is doing his due diligence before he does that.

This is why people are saying he is just trolling LSU...it's because they just really hope he doesn't go there.

I believe the ultimatum came out after these trips, didn't it?

And to be clear, I thought two weeks ago he very well may take the LSU job. I think it's a better job than Florida.

What has raised my doubt is the way he has handled the family flying around the country.

It's completely unnecessary, and that part makes it seem like he is trying to get more money from Ole Miss.

I have no insider information, just guessing on all of this

It was maybe leaked to the press because of the trips, but my guess is they gave him the ultimatum before that because they had offered him the extension several weeks back and he still hasn't signed. Once the ultimatum was made Lane probably said alright then if you're making me decide now I'll fly my family to both places to check it out and then make a decision this week.

If he was staying at Ole Miss he sure is trolling them pretty hard too with all of this.

Why fly his family all over the country ? Maximize $ for the Kiffin family ( and his agent) no matter how it all turns out.

His options are wide open. Could end up at any of multiple destinations or maybe he stays at OM.

Could still be the State Penn or tu beyond the LSU or Florida possibilities or he could stay put. He'll be a pain in the butt no matter what he does but as far as winning titles … he has no history of such

Don't know how this will turn out but chances are high Kiffin will have more golf balls and mustard bottles chucked at him from the stands, and I, for one, am here for it!

So it comes down to a family tour of both cities. Interesting.

According to a new report from The Athletic, "LSU sent a private plane for Kiffin's family to visit Baton Rouge on Monday, and the Kiffins took a similar trip to Gainesville the day before."

I'll just say good on Ole Miss to give him a deadline, don't let it string on any longer while supposed to focused on a postseason run. Pate went into it on sundays show that ole miss needing to do something like this so they can plan for their future if he leaves.

IF he leaves I think it will be for Florida, not LSU. His wife (who he just reunited with) Layla, is a Florida grad who grew up in Gainesville. Her father, John Reaves, was a three-year starter and All-American QB for Florida, who went on to play in the NFL for about a decade. He also coached under Spurrier at Florida. I think any real Florida connection really comes down to Layla. Just my opinion.

Lane has the hammer he can do what he wants.

Someone beat me to it but I think Sark is going to the NFL and Texas job opens up and he goes there. He will then have all the 601'ers and 504's and 337's pissed off.

Lest not forget if Al Davis would've listened to him 20 years ago he'd still be in the NFL. Al Davis was upset that he was vehemently against drafting Jamarcus Russell. Davis picked him over Kiffin's objections and the raiders rue this decision for the last 20 years.

Kiffin is trashing whatever reputation he had earned back by Saban's rehabilitation program. A coach who would leave a program in the middle of a playoff run is not to be trusted. You would have thought LSU learned that lesson with Brian Kelly.

OTOH, since Saban is advising him, Kiffin may be going for legacy hire such as Saban's 15 year reign at Bama. Could he really do that at Ole Miss n today's environment? Or does LSU or Florida have advantages on that front?

Ole Miss has given Kiffin everything he has asked for. So if he leaves them it won't be because of that.

The landscape has changed a lot and coaches are forced to make these decisions way sooner than they used to. Kiffin may be the first, but he won't be the last coach to leave a team that is playoff bound.

But to another P4 program within the same conference? When that conference is the SEC? I mean I can see and ACC or Big XII coach bolt for an SEC gig during a playoff run. Or a G5 coach elevating up to P4.
<sigh> Hate where college football is headed right now.

Would you rather have a Schloss coach you through the playoffs while trying to recruit your players to his new job behind your back or would you rather just know up front that he's leaving and tell him thanks but we got it from here?

I know what I would prefer.

Of course not. Kiffin could do some real damage if Ole Miss allowed him to coach knowing he was leaving. And Kiffin already has a history of burning a program down when he ups and leaves and takes coaches and players with him. Now it is even easier to poach players.

But a coach has to have some integrity. Lane is not showing much of that lately.
