sneak peak from tonight's episode shows Soph once again considering the thing that she should have done 4 episodes ago.

The dynamics of how to use it are pretty interesting at this point with so few players left.
You've got Savannah and Rizzo locked together, Steven and Kristina locked together, Sage out in the woods deciding who she hates the most next now that Sophie and Shannon are gone, and then Soph with her best kept secret idol (other than Steven's block a vote).

If she uses it to take out Rizzo in a straight power move, it would seem like either she or Savannah would go immediately after. If Savannah won the next immunity challenge, they'd turn on Soph in a minute and she'd be out at 5.

On the other hand, she could give it to another player - say Steven - and tell them that the price of it is her being that person's choice to sit next to them if that person wins the final immunity. Steven plays it, Rizzo goes out, and is Soph is in the Final Three, her point is she actually controlled the biggest move of the game without putting the target on her. If she's not, she burns Steven for lying to her by revealing it to everyone else. I'm not sure she's smart enough to think that out.

The same point remains from every single other Wednesday. if Rizzo is in the final 3, it seems impossible you're going to out-talk him for $1 million. The guy could talk for 12 hours on his strategy without taking a sip of water.

Honestly, such a disappointing season. Rizzo and Savannah are running away with this. Soph could have flipped the whole game tonight and instead guaranteed that one of the other two will win. Very little strategy played by everyone not named Rizzo

Best rollercoaster of a tribal in a long time. They did a great job showing you that Steven plays his advantage before they leave. I can't believe Kristina and Sage voted for him.
Also, if Rizo wins the whole thing, does he challenge Sandra for "crappiest challenge person to win Survivor" of all time? he's clueless.

I think he read their faces again when he said he was playing it for himself. if they had all been happy he could have said, actually, no for Soph.

Here are the standings going into the final as well as who everybody has left (BOLD if it's an original pick). Remember that points are elevated significantly in the final episode. At final tribal, winner gets +10, second gets +6, third gets +4, fourth gets +2, and the winner of the fire competition gets +2. That's in addition to two 5 point immunity challenges and possibly 1 reward challenge. That's 34-37 points available without the bonuses, and perhaps more on the off chance Rizo plays his idol for an alliance mate, although that seems unlikely.

He played the advantage before they left for tribal? I guess that makes sense because Christina/Sage wouldn't have played it if he gave it to them since they were voting Steven.

Yeah, it's only because I take notes for every episode for the contest that I knew that he had to designate who he was playing it for before tribal council. he read it in the rules when he found it last week.

They made a big deal of mentioning that Steven's advantage had to be played before he left for tribal, so I figured it would go down the way it did, with Soph trying to steal an already used advantage.

I don't really understand why Sage and Kristina voted out Steven, especially since they could guarantee control of the next vote if they took out Soph. My only thought is that their play is to try and get Soph to vote out Savannah next week by telling her that they can't beat Savannah, but they are all challenge scrubs so she could def win immunity. I guess you want to go against Rizzo in fire making? He doesn't strike me as being good at that.

Dalton Ross, who writes the EW Surivor recaps, said in his latest review that Sage was the favorite along with Savannah. I was pretty surprised by that, but he thought that Sage had some friends on the jury and would be seen as controlling a bunch of the votes in the post-merge time.

Sage has at least tried to play the game; she's just been on the wrong end of the vote when it's mattered.

Rizzo is at least guaranteed a chance to make fire. I wonder if this will be a year they have to resort to using matches.

Sophi not taking Rizo's idol and saying "Let's get him out of here" to the other players and to the jury seems like a Mount Rushmore level blunder, especially since she botched the Knowledge is Power advantage immediately after.

I guess if you're Sage or Kristina, your thinking is, we're both at 5, without 1 of the 2 people who we know can win a challenge. You just eliminated Sophie for the same reason, why not go back to back? No way either of them could beat Savannah, Rizo, or Steven in my book, but if you took out Steven at 6, Savannah at 5, and then dumped Soph vs. Rizo in the fire challenge, maybe you get the 2 of you and Soph into a winnable Final 3, although arguably the worst Final 3 of all time.

Probably a question that never gets answered, but do players like Kristina know in the moment that they're just deadweight in the grand scheme of things?

Also, has Rizo received a vote the whole season?

And that is why I could never play survivor. I would be permanently ostracized from society for doing my best Micheal Shannon impersonation reading a sorority letter.

"Are you f#$&ing re7@&3d? That is not a rhetorical question. I want you to literally email me back and let me know if you people a f#%';=g slow"


They let a kid flaunt his idol for 8 episodes and never put a vote on him and walk into the final 4. WOW. And Soph had the game winning move. Keep a secret for 8 tribals, steal an idol, walk into final 4 and as long as you earn one of 3 seats you win the game IMO. Or just look as dumb as Kristina with no resume beyond an epic blunder.


ETA: I hope it is Soph, Kristina, Sage in final 3 and the jury votes to give the money to charity. That would sum up this season perfectly.

Soph could've won the entire game with an epic move tonight and she failed. She let her emotions take over like a pick me girl because Savannah chose her to go on the reward.

Funny how she was saying her grandma would say to take Rizzo's idol because she knew that's what she should do in her gut and she still couldn't do it.

I'm actually rooting for Rizzo now. He's the only one left who's strategically playing the game. Although, Savannah could realize she can't beat him in the final 3 and make a move.

Savannah or Rizzo are going to win because the other 3 in the final 5 are just goats (and not the good kind) at this point. Sage needs to go collect some more blackheads or something.

Just watched this.

Soph is the dumbest player in Survivor history. Sage is next. Sage can't beat Riz and Savannah. Yet she chooses to go forward with both of them plus their ally Soph instead of Steven because she "cant beat Steven". Steven is not a threat on immunity challenges. He would have been an ally. The three of them - Steven, Sage and Kristina - potentially to the final. Stupid *****. Not to mention that she betrayed Steven after getting butt hurt that Sophie betrayed her. She was also begging Savannah to drop out in the challenge. Get lost.

I don't really care what happens now because the IQ of the cast has gone through the floor at this point. Idiots.

CBS confirms they'll pause Survivor at 8 and pick it back up when Trump is done and their talking heads yap. So the finale will probably restart at 4 AM tomorrow morning

While annoying, it did allow someone at People.com to run this fantastic photo for the story.

I think that will be our plan as well. We have dinner plans tonight, so we won't be able to watch it live anyways. Usually, these addresses are rather short. I would bet Survivor is delayed no longer than an hour.

YouTube tv is showing two separate survivor episodes, with a 30 minutes break for Trump, so hopefully everyone will get the paid recorded properly. I still recorded the late local news just to be safe.

I was at a Christmas drive-in movie thing with my family and just got done watching the whole thing.

First of all, the pick'em winner in a crazy close finish is: SZ

SZ finished with 193, barely holding off cwpaggie07, who had 188.5.

Before i post everything else, a massive shoutout to double aught. Double Aught only had Savannah left of his 4 picks at the merge. He added Soph, Sage and Rizo - going 4 for 4 on the Final Four, very impressive. He notched a Bingo-high 45.5 points tonight to jump from 87.5 to 133 in a single night.

As my brother continues to recover to full health, I hope you guys don't mind me sticking around and running the contest for Survivor 50 which starts in February. I really had a fun time and I've been watching the show since Season 1 with just a few exceptions. I've got a few ideas to amp up the competition a little that I'll toss out as we get closer.


I will admit I was abnormally excited that they started the 50 Promo with Coach. He's such a clown and I love him for it.

Savannah is a deserving winner. I'm glad to see the challenge wins finally seemed to factor into the winning result. That's always irked me that that part of the game is usually downplayed. Editing made it seem like Soph had a chance, but Savannah was clearly the better player.

Haven't watched in awhile but watched this season in preparation for season 50. Don't know how other people feel, but the finale is kind of a buzz kill when there's no audience and we just turn around and read the votes right away
