Nah it's the right call from a medical perspective and the show covering its ass. Not worth the risk. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if he pulled himself from the game as an expectant father even if they said the Dr was pulling him

I get that, but everyone on that tribe is dehydrated and malnourished. If they confirmed a dry bite and his vitals stabilized, give him the choice. In a litigious society, I understand CBSs decision, but feel bad for the guy. Hopefully they give him a shot on another season.

The carnage begins on TexAgs Survivor Pickem
5 people lost a pick tonight and double aught lost 2.
As a reminder after the merge episode, you can pick replacements but without the half-point bonus.
The spreadsheet:

The new standings after Episode 3:

T-1. cwpaggie07 and SZ - 12
3, rwhitlock3 - 11
T-4. Saxsoon and RudyJax - 10
6. HTownAg98 - 7.5
T-7. texas_ute and n_touch 6.5
9. Counterpoint - 5.5
10. Drunken Overseas Bettor - 3.5
11. double aught - 0

Recap of the points for this episode.
  • Jake: -2 for being medically evacuated
  • Jeremiah: -2 for being voted off
  • Alex doesn't get any points for playing his HII because it didn't save him or anyone else, but definitely the right move to make.
  • Jason, Kristina, Matt, MC, Sophie, Steven: +2 each for 1st place in the immunity challenge
  • Jawan, Nate, Rizo, Sage, Savannah, Shannon: +1 each for 2nd place in the immunity challenge
MC and Rizo each found a Beware advantage but are in an interesting position for the pickem game. If they find the HII with the clue by themselves, they'll each get +3.

But, they switch tribes next week. Rizo is on Yellow now based on the preview. So I'm guessing the idol doesn't move with him. I didn't see MC in the preview, so she can only get hers if she's stays in yellow.

If either of them asks for help finding it, and the other person finds it, we also have the -2 penalty of:

You find an advantage note or HII clue, but you're too dumb to retrieve it by yourself / at all: - 2 points

Will definitely be interesting to see how that shakes out.

I'm going to keep banging the drum - if Alex makes the merge, they have to get him out first. His puzzle domination is unreal.

Also, pretty cool to see behind the scenes including a binder that gave the tribe info on flora and fauna. Was curious about that when Jeremiah and Alex were eating that disgusting fruit. I would be afraid to eat any random jungle fruits, but that binder keeps them safe I guess

I think his size had a lot to do with it. The amount of calories and water that guy probably normally takes in during a single day is probably enormous, and to not be allowed to replenish him completely in the medical facility would have a doctor worried. With the next challenge being a really physical one with a swimming element, the last thing they want is to have to rescue a 250-pound boulder from drowning in the ocean in front of the other 14 people.

A different take on the situation, it might have been an editing choice, but it really seemed like they didn't Kele anything about Jake until they were at the immunity challenge. I really hope that isn't the case, because that would be supremely awful.

Really tired of the 3 tribes for the last few seasons. Need to go back to 2

This points game that Drunken Overseas Bettor started is really the only reason I am continuing to watch this season... lol

I did think they handled the Jake removal situation bad. If I was a competitor on a different tribe, I would have been fine with them giving him 12-24 hours to replenish his water levels and nutrients and a good nights sleep in the hospital overnight while being monitored... then, he could re-enter the game if he chose to do so. He was on the worst-performing tribe anyways

I think the problem is that if you fill someone with fluids, electrolytes, and even food, they would have an advantage that wouldn't be fair to others. I don't think they've ever let someone stay overnight and then let them back into the game. Now that I think about it, I think they held a player overnight with flu symptoms, and let them back in. But I've had a few beers since then.

Yeah, I get that... I still just would hate to see someone else's Survivor dream cut short because of something like that when I think it could have been mitigated. Again, I see that he would have an unfair advantage but let's be real, he was on the worst-performing tribe and with his size, he would be nutrient-depleted with a couple of days anyways... lol

I think the real problem is that if Jake comes back into the game with 12 hours of rest and fluids and competes in that challenge, he's in way better shape than whoever the 4th person running for the other 2 tribes would be. It probably wouldn't have mattered ultimately because Kele sucks balls at puzzles, but if the fourth person running for one of the other 2 tribes was someone who wasn't strong physically to get up that rope thing or kept falling off the balance beam over and over, it would have had an impact that sends someone else home who would probably consider their demise a direct result of Jake being replenished physically.

About to listen to the On Fire pod with Probst, I'll check in later if he has anything interesting to see.

Also, Savannah is rapidly ascending into the Parvati orbit of dirty island hot. Her Instagram isn't bad either.

Lots of expanded info from the podcast on the Jake situation that explains why he was never going back in the game.

1. They took him to the medical center because they happened to have a boat at the camp right then delivering camera equipment. The producer thought it was serious enough to take a look.

2. While they were headed to the medical center, they lost communication with the boat at the base camp and didn't know why (technical glitch). So when the guy is screaming "IS HE BREATHING?" at the dock, that was legit. They didn't know what had happened or if they had stopped communicating because Jake had taken a turn for the worst.

3. The doctor on call was in his first week of work, subbing for the regular doctor.

4. Probst said in 10 years they had never heard of anyone in all of Fiji getting bit by one of the sea snakes. Nobody knew exactly what they were doing because it was so rare. But the doctor on site knew that there isn't a blood test for venom, and you have to wait 48 hours to ensure there is no venom in the blood stream. With a seemingly healthy guy like Jake, it could have taken a long time to present.

5. With that in mind, they couldn't put him back in the game. Off camera, they immediately took him in a boat to a hospital in Fiji. They said they didn't have the expertise to help him if something went south, so the AIR LIFTED him to Australia for the rest of the 48 hours. Because apparently the venom of those snakes is a living nightmare in your body. Less than one 1 mg of their venom is a fatal dose.

6. The silver-lining? Jake got home in time to see his son born. I wouldn't trade that experience for $1 million.

He didn't go into specifics, but Probst's sneak peek for next week makes it sound like the tribe switch is really weird.

Yeah. There is always more to it. I had no issue with him getting pulled from the game. It sucks, but the risk was too great.

Thanks for that summary.

Also Jeff seemed to imply that Jake had little to no memory of things that happened after the bite, so that might have worried them as well.

Yeah, their only hope is to make a finals pact before they get split up, and then sell themselves as a vote for sale to make a majority group wherever they end up. If they both manage to survive to the final merge, they can secretly go back to working together to try and get to the end. It would be a pretty epic story if it worked. Not sure either one of them has the stamina or smarts left in the tank to think that far ahead. It would take a lot of luck.

They need to work together but separately. She wrote my name down but I used an idol. They hate each other. Don't talk at all.

But I don't think they'll do that.

The survivors of a terrible tribe usually do well because the others feel like they haven't played the game yet. So they scheme and make big moves.

I can see these two going far if they play it right.

According to the EW interview, Jake got home 48 hours before his son was born.

SURVIVOR BINGO UPDATE 10-15 EPISODE 4

Not much tension tonight as Matt and Jason go head to head to see who is the more clueless minority tribe rep at the new Kele. Matt is the Biggest Loser, which meant a 2 point deduction from tonight's scores for n_touch and rwhitlock3.

After the swap, we had a immunity and reward challenge which equaled +4 points apiece for Alex, MC, Shannon, Steven, Sage, Kristina, and Sophie. I gotta tell you guys, I had no idea who Sophie with an E was until she dissed the reward to Probst.

Back at the new Hina, I thought we were going to get Rizo on the "you're too stupid to find the HII" point when Savannah dug up the map at the well. And kudos to the editors of Survivor for knowing exactly what they have in Savannah with the camera angles of her digging on the ground.

But they gave RizGod the map and he found it in the water, giving him a tidy 3 point bonus.

At tribal, Nate, Savanna, Sophi, Rizo, Jawan, and Jason all earned 0.5 points for surviving Tribal.

My biggest laugh of the night was Nate's very matter of fact, "Matt said my name, so now he is dead to me for the rest of the game."

The biggest point getters tonight were cwpaggie07 and SZ with 9 each and it should come as no surprise that they remain our co-leaders with 21 each. They have 3 of the same 4 picks, with the only difference being Sophie for one and MC for the other.

Your new overall standings:
T-1. cpaggie07 21
SZ 21

3. Saxsoon 18.5

4. rwhitlock3 17

5. HTownAg98 16

T-6. gravy97 15
RudyJax 15

8. Counterpoint 13.5

9. texas_ute 11.5

10 n_touch 9

11. Drunken Overseas Bettor 8

12. double aught 1

The Spreadsheet if you want to check the math.

My wife and I had always joked that it would be great if after Probst asks "Worth playing for?" If someone responded "eh, not really." And it finally happened.

So far, this season is "meh". Too much time in camp w/ un-interesting people and only one (1) challenge in 1 1/2 hours of viewing..... Boring.
PS. I did like Savannah digging for the Idol at the well.

I think a lot of that boring is that the same people keep losing and going to tribal until last night. Which I guess is part of the reason why I had no idea who Sophie with an E even was.

I was most impressed with Steven's analysis of Shannon during the episode. He looks like an air head despite the high-tech job. His and Alex's "This is Total BS" faces during Shannon's morning breathing exercises were top shelf.

Listened to On Fire Podcast this morning, Probst usually gushes about whomever got voted off and reads his notes from meeting them. I think Matt was the first time he been on the fence. He said Matt was really guarded and he wasn't sure about him for a good while.

By the way, Jason telling Savannah "if we make the merge, I'll be able to tell my old tribe to steer the vote away from you guys" was about the dumbest smart guy answer I've ever heard. If they all make the merge, those would be the only two tribes left, smart guy.

HTownAg98

Sort of. The season started with everyone being very kumbaya, but the lack of food and sleep is causing people to get on each other's nerves. So it should get more interesting soon. Plus, you're still pre-merge, where the smart players are keeping a low profile.
