No it isn't. The number 12 has nothing to do with any A&M sport outside of football. It's only been in recent years that it's been introduced into our other sports, and it's entirely about marketing/merchandising. We used to debate on this board whether we were the 10th Man or the 11th Man (because of the DH).
I'm not opposed to revenue for the Athletic Department, but I am sick to f***ing death of the number 12.
I'd love for someone to put together cumulative stats for the #12 jersey since 2022. It's been a curse.

As long as he's coaching here, let the OG 12th Man keep it as his number. Every subsequent #12 didn't have a good season, be it injuries or whatever.

It's fine. I say keep it. The 12th man has morphed into representing the student body and leaders of teams. Having traditions doesn't mean we can never start another. That's just boomer-ish talk of fear of change.

I'm not appending injuries to the 12. Bost, yeah. Got me there. Targac struggled but we had several that struggled too. Schott had a career worst but he wasn't the only one last year either fairly certain. And expectations should be tempered with his injuries too. Obviously, I would think.
I think injuries are even worse if you're pushing for a case for them to keep doing this (assuming the players don't want to). It's got a rep for being bad luck over the course of the last 4 years.
Both Schott and Stewart were injury prone well before them being selected to have 12.

I'd say just make it a regular jersey like it was pre-Schloss and like it is in basketball. Make it to where anybody can claim it

Calling it an outright curse is silly baseball talk, of course.
But making such a big deal of it can definitely cause the player wearing "the" number to press, especially at the first sign of adversity.
If this was a long-standing tradition I'd say it was worth preserving. But it's five years old, was started by a guy who obviously was over-compensating, and I don't think I've ever heard/read anyone say they love it.
Get rid of it and make it just like any other number.

I agree players press at times. But it's not bc they are wearing a certain jersey.
