And the guy who made that terrible hire just 18 months ago, is currently in charge of making the same hire again? Should we feel good about this? A business consultant would advise you that while the result is now gone, the problem is still here and you're choosing to ignore it.

I could be wrong, but I believe Trev wanted the pitching coach to have head coach experience so he could help Earley out with advice. Both Earley getting the job and Kelly joining his staff was announced the same day

I don't think Earley handpicked Kelly the way he is going to be responsible for this next hire.

You could be very right. I just wish Trev wanted our head coach to have head coaching experience.

Scholss is the one that hired that guy as his hitting coach so he made a bad hire for hitting coach....

I am not sold on Earley as the head coach but based upon the 2026 season is full no question he deserves to go one more year but it should be his hardest year on paper to recruit a lineup and rotation to compete

Braunny had said that don't be surprised if it's a quick filled role. This is largely due to the fact that you'll need a good pitching coach to recruit these players during the portal. I definitely think that they have had replacements in mind and lined up for a while. Additionally, Braunny mentioned pro staff being an option for the new pitching coach, which is what Wiener came from…small optimism.

We need Maximum Wiener

Maybe he can find some CWS pitching coach willing to quit on his team, like someone else we all know.

Yes

but at least it's getting done this year so the firing of the coordinator cannot be used next year.

And pitching was not the reason we lost last night.

No, but it is the reason we weren't a higher seed that could have gotten a much easier regional.

It was pretty obvious that the team started pressing. Knowing you HAVE to score 8-10 runs to win every night takes its toll over the long haul. Good pitching beats good hitting.

The rush and madness of Earley's first assistants hire is the wildcard here.

He's got two positions to fill and by all indications, has clearly known this is going to be happening for a while. He's not having to throw together a staff on the fly.

Every excuse is now gone starting in 2027. I hope it works, and for some reason i can't explain, feel like it will.

The question is whether or not a high quality pitching coach will come to A&M knowing there is a very good chance it's just a one year gig? We already have that chode in Austin telling recruits our head coach is going to get fired...are we going to be able to attract high level assistants and recruits (or retain the players we want to retain) under the cloud of a coach possibly on his way out a year from now?

I had my doubts that he could get Cliff last year. I think that selling the pitching vacancy this time around might be easier. There's really no such thing as job security for most coaches, and that's really not what the good ones are looking for--they want upward mobility. Any coach who takes this job and improves our pitching will be a hot commodity for a step up.

This has likely been in the works for awhile and I'll bet it moves quickly. Having Dylan Olsonawski on staff already heading up the pitching lab, my gut tells me that he and Earley already have a few names in mind.

I believe it was Earley who said right after his hire that he looked at and or talked to Vitello who had been hired by UT as a first time HC and the advice was to hire someone with HC experience to provide guidance for a first year HC.

If you couldn't tell watching those guys and their ABs the last two games and tell that they were pressing then you don't know baseball.

When you have 2 season-ending injuries before the season really got started to pitchers expected to be studs, another expected stud from the portal not make it to campus because of off-field legal issues, and another guy who was supposed to be a big contributor on the bump turn out to be a head case, and then our ace goes down 3 weeks ago we were cooked. The 34-man roster really kills pitching depth. We don't see what the freshmen arms do in practice but the 2025 class had some big-time arms that didn't show up like expected, but maybe the plan was for them to RS and develop all along because we were looking good before the injuries hit.

Offensive oriented had the best offense in the SEC and set records through 52 games. Unfortunately the same offense had 2 bad games at the end of the season. Don't think you can question his offensive coaching, to be fair he's not the one swinging at the plate….

You could tell they were trying to hit a 5-run homer every single swing and chasing pitches they don't normally chase.

I'd bet Earley has had a short list of potential replacements for every spot on his staff.

The coaching world is small, and these conversations happen quietly.

I'd also bet he's been backchanneling with candidates for the last 46 weeks.

I'd also bet Pennington and Hutchins will have some input/recommendations.

He wasn't THE problem but he was A problem and this is just a step in the direction of getting things right next season.

TA is awful at not assigning binary outputs to everything. This becomes that. That equals this. And so on. I blame social media. Which is what TA is at the end of the day too.
