Why are they able to buy their players and we can't do the same thing. We have way more support and money than tech. I know tu is in another league of sports than us but come on we have to be able to do better than tech.

It's simple, someone wanted to cut a big check for a couple elite pitchers.

The main problem is we're too scared to fire coaches (when we do it's years too late). Just like the stupid contract extensions - it's mind boggling…

For the 8000th time. You MUST have elite pitching in softball. In today's world, that means NIL$$$$$$$

We don't have any donors with that much money with that little business sense.

There is no ROI for a million dollar pitcher. You may win a championship, but you don't get a return.

Until the 12th man gifts points for donations illegally you won't get Buzbee, Beaver or Don Adams to start writing checks. The Tech guy seems to like the publicity and apparently has F me money where he doesn't miss it.

Not when it comes to softball; we don't.

Quote:

They are led by pitcher NiJaree Canady, who transferred from Standford, and has signed back-to-back $1 million NIL deals.

But the Matador Club, the NIL collective of Texas Tech, likes to brag that every softball and women's basketball player has been signed to five-figure NIL deals. They has enabled them to signed a number of players from the transfer portal.

We averaged around 250 more people per game.

Lubbock Aggie here -- everyone tends to assume that Tech is a terrible school, which it is academically, but people here take sports SERIOUSLY. The oil and real estate moguls here have BIG money and BIG desire to do well in sports. Cody Campbell's wife told him she wanted a winning softball team, he said "deal," and thus came Nija and KT. They are the difference maker. It's hard to bat your way out of bad pitching.

How are you defining ROI? He's not literally going to make his money back, but he's going to help his program reach a level they would never have dreamed of. His joy from that might be a favorable return in his eyes.

Because we aren't serious about winning in any sport that counts

ETA: I'm wrong in the fact we did commit to volleyball and it showed. Appear to be showing a commitment to basketball as well.

Turns out I'm just wrong

Donor. Cody Campbell.

But, ya gotta admit that Glasco can coach. He has a fluent lineup. And the team has bought in to his message. It's impressive.

It's not the Campbells, it's his partner John Sellers. His wife Tracy played softball at Tech. They named their field after her

Glasco's a badass.

Good for Tech. The rest of the schools gave them an opening with unregulated NIL and they're taking advantage of it to move themselves up in the pecking order across the board.

The tech guy has FU money. We don't or our donors care too much about ROI and it's not stupid FU money. Also they have to care about the sport to spend that FU money. Seems they do with football but that is about it.

I'm sure he's a good coach, but how do you think Ford would do with 2 very elite pitchers and multiple all-American transfers from places like ULCA, Tennessee and Florida? Or how would he do given our roster?

I don't know if ROI is the right term, but there are serval factors at play.

First, NIL money needs to be tax deductible in order for it to make any sense financially, and it's really hard to justify a $1 million NIL deal with a softball pitcher as a legitimate business advertising or sponsorship expense. Now, if you don't care about that, fine, but it does matter to most business people, and effectively makes your NIL money go farther when you can claim it as an expense.

Second, NIL money is not allowed to get you priority points credit (or whatever they call it at other schools), so you don't jump to the front of the donor line, for whatever that is worth to you, for writing a big NIL check.

Third, some people just prefer to write big checks for bricks and mortar; things that will last and might carry their name for years to come, rather than something completely ephemeral like a one year NIL deal, which may or may not lead to some hardware in the trophy case (and, in any event, which will not carry your name on it).

We were number one overall seed last year and then Texas won the national championship over Texas Tech. This year they will re match for the national championship while we are stuck again unable to get out of our own regional. You may not care about softball at all and that's fine, but how far we've fallen behind Texas and Tech in softball in terms of accomplishments the past 12 months is most definitely embarrassing.

I have no issues with Trisha and think she is a good coach as well. I always liked her when she was at ASU. I think if she had the resources he does, she would do well.

I just have always been a fan of his from his time when he was an assistant here. Also, I will admit, there is some bias toward him and his family because my daughter was fortunate to have his daughter Tara as her hitting coach when she lived in CS.

Man that would be entertaining. She still doesn't have a good feel for pitchers and when they don't have it and are spent, but that would be fun to watch.

Having to make decisions about pitchers, and when they are spent and who to bring in, is much easier when you have 2 of the very best (if not THE best) pitchers in the country on your staff at the same time. When you have a staff mix of good to above average, those decisions are much tougher.
