We don't even have 3 capable starters…..to enter the NCAAs
Did tonight's results really shock anyone?

Btw, what is Sdao's ERA now??? Over 10.0???

We learned nothing about the pitching tonight that we didn't already know. Much more concerned that our offense has completely disappeared. 2 for 28 tonight. With one of those two from Royo. Only shutout of the year.

Gave up two runs in two innings of work which is an ERA for the night of 9.00 so if his ERA is over 10.00, tonight's performance (or lack there of) would have lowered his ERA.

Good pitching beats good hitting. Even if yours is as good as ours. It's a bad situation that Earley, Kelly, and injuries have put us in.

It will make for a short and disappointing postseason.

In the span of 20 days, Andreas Alvarez went 2-0 against us, pitching 12 innings; giving up seven hits, five runs (four earned), four walks; and recording 20 strikeouts. One win was a run rule, one was a shutout. Kid has our number.

Ya, we're essentially getting run ruled in these 'game 1's'. Doesn't bode well for a deep post season run.

Thing is, we don't really know how short the post season will be. Look at Ol Miss in 2022. They finished the regular season losing a series to the Aggies, giving up 22 runs in two blowout losses and then going one and out in the SEC tournament, before winning the CWS.

I know it's human nature to think the worst after a game like this. I'm no exception. But this is baseball.

When you have decent pitching and good hitting you can compete. When you have good pitching and decent hitting you can compete. When you have NO pitching and even outstanding hitting, you have hitters who are "pressing" because they know that Succeeding/Winning depends ENTIRELY upon them. This is what we have, great hitters that are pressing! Not a recipe for success.

I like the optimism but... Dylan DeLucia was series MVP and they also had Hunter Elliot. Not exactly apples to apples.

Pitching is the most important on field ingredient. ***Breaking News*** Our pitching staff has struggled and looks to continue that trend. I am looking forward to watching the bats, hoping for a spark on the mound, but I'm past yelling a the TV when we get exposed. Ill try to enjoy what we have left.

I think what Early does with next years pitching staff will determine how long he stays in CS. Will be interesting to see if someone decides to make a run at a big name pitching coach.

Don't give me wrong, I'm not really optimistic. I just know that every once in a while, I can be pleasantly surprised.

Miracles can happen, look at Weston Moss, throwing six innings of near perfect baseball against Auburn just a few weeks ago.

Earley hired his buddy.

His buddy likely wasn't the best available option for a pitching coach.

I'm not real sure how well Earley is interconnected across the baseball and coaching communities.
Anybody know?

It was pretty late in the seasonal hiring as late as Earley was named our head coach. Maybe not that many choices at that point to hire a pitching coach.

Ole Miss in 2022 is a good example of what a team can do late in the season if they can just get in the Field of 64. They were the preseason number 1 team, had some good pitching and a proven head coach. They just got on a roll and played up to their talent at the end of the season,

I'm not sure the pitching coach is the problem, there's not a whole lot of ability / talent / good stuff on the pitching staff, bunch of soft-tossers with very average (at best) off-speed stuff.

We also lose a lot of hitting after this year. And Wilson has disappeared for some reason.

Our offense can get us out of our regional. We've shown numerous times this year we can win a 3 game series. That gets us to Omaha.

We don't have the pitching to win there, but unless we're paired against another SEC team in the super, we will not face an SEC-caliber team until then.

Right, but when you have the resources, facilities forthcoming, and a lot of other positives….youve still gotta have a guy on staff that pitchers will want to come play for, learn from, and develop under.
Do we see JK being that guy?

What is exactly wrong with Sims? He's been out for a few weeks. Are we expecting him back for the playoffs? It didn't seem like he got hurt that badly, but obviously he did. Does anybody know what the injury is?

Im convinced more every day that the asst. coaches do matter. Not only does he have to have a reputation for developing talent, he needs to have a persona. He needs to be visible outside of the building. This is a large part of landing portal guys. The facilities will have a big influence on pitchers as well.

NIL is going to dominate baseball recruiting just as it does football (matbe it already does). It seems baseball has been slower in transitioning to that model but perhaps we have arrived. Pitching will be the key portal focus in my opinion. Pay two big arms that have good innings on them. Develop your 3rd arm with your "other" kids.

We benefit from Wiggins influence on our WR room. We need a guy like that leading our pitchers.

Yeah, that's the concerning thing. The pitching was what the pitching has been. But even when Mississippi State put 18 on us, we still scored 11. Offense just went silent last night.

I don't think JK is a bad coach but I'm not certain he is good enough for the standard set by the previous staff. It feels like some of the coordinator hires in Aggie football over the years past.

It has to be a shoulder or elbow imo. If so, he won't be available.

I do think that mainly our hitting can get us to a Super but I do not have confidence in winning 2/3 on the road vs a top 10 team, we have not done that this year (had a chance w/ OU at the time). Only did it 1/3 at home, though the MSU series felt top 10.

Asst coaches absolutely matter. At least as much if not more than the head coach.

We've been led to believe his "rest" is just precautionary and he will be available for the Regional. No reason to believe otherwise. We shall see.

While we may wish we had the pitching of some other teams, those same teams are wishing they had some of our sluggers. As the saying goes, "it is what it is"!

Just from his age and assignments he has had, there hasn't been enough time or exposure for him to build those kind of relationships. He will for the foreseeable future be seen as an upstart.
