Stewie looks rough. Cant locate the fastball and is constantly getting under/around his cutter. Hung a slider to Bindy that he hit over the scoreboard.

Key takeaways from my perspective:
-Aiden Sims looked really good. Located 4 pitches for strikes. Stayed 90-95 with the fastball. In a world of throwers he pitches.
-Freshcorn settled in after the first and threw well. About the same velocity wise as Sims.
-Most of the relievers seemed like set up/situational guys other than Vincent and Vargas. Vargas looked good.
-Hopefully Stewart is just knocking rust off because he did not look good outside of 1 AB. Came in with 2 outs and couldn't locate a fastball and was hanging a ton of off speed. Finally found it against Chestnut and threw some wipeout stuff. Hardly any command from the second he started throwing warm up pitches and never looked comfortable until the last AB against Chestnut.
-Speaking of Chestnut, one of the bright spots. We know what he can do in the outfield and on the bases but he looked good at the plate. Hit a ball off the CF wall off of Sims. I'll be honest, when it was announced he'd be coming back I didn't think he'd play much outside of situational stuff. If he plays like he did today he's going to be hard to keep off the field.
-That 3rd OF spot is going to be competitive. Duer, Chestnut and Wilson all give you very different options.
-Jorian Wilson will be special. He just moves differently. I don't know if it will be this year but he oozes confidence and talent.

I don't disagree with any of that
I have a lot of similar takes. Hacopian was suspect defensively. Star freshmen looked impressive, but not sure if they'll fill the gaps we have. Was very interesting watching Cliff coach up anyone not named Gavin on the "expected" starting infield. Outfield is loaded! Bindy's homer over the scoreboard was fun to watch, but concerning for Stewy. He didn't seem too confident out there.
Excited for a new season and hopeful with the amount of talent we have, but still have a cautiously optimistic, "I sure hope it works out" kind of mindset.

Royo looked really sharp at SS. If Kellner isn't crushing at the plate, royo can fill in for sure.
Will Bindy challenge for DH? I thought he actually looked better than GG at first TBH but I have faith GG will figure it out.

Gavin is going to be better offensively and defensively than Binderup. Even on one of the pop ups Bindy caught he didn't look comfortable.
I honestly thought Royo would be the guy. A guy who knows Rice baseball didn't give a reason but simply told me he's not a SS. I can't remember him doing anything remarkable at the plate today. He seemed streaky last year.

To be honest I don't really remember the "starting" offense do much of anything outside of the 1st and maybe 1 other inning when Partida Kd with the bases loaded. Maroon capitalized on Stewie but they hit some balls hard all game.
I 100% was not suggesting GG not in the lineup, just that he didn't look really comfortable at 1st base yet. Bindy may not be the best but he seems comfortable over there. Obviously GG's bat keeps him in the lineup somewhere.

Gotcha. I don't think what we saw today is what we end up with. I do think the only reason Gavin wouldn't play first is because whoever is at 3rd is struggling. We have a lot of versatility this year so I think it's going to come down to whoever is hitting.

I remember the cream jerseys from like 2015-2017 had names but that's about it. And the 2015 maroon jerseys (awful pullovers)
