If the results are anything like last season then yes you are correct. This is big boy baseball, you don't get to escape criticism for losing just because you're a good guy.

agree about SS… Kellner booted first attempt (easy ball).. then got lucky on second attempt (he had no clue he got it… coach quickly out to talk with him after it)

Safe to say that defense is still very suspect? I was expecting a quick impact from Pennington, but I'm seeing a lot of comments about fielders not looking comfortable/good.

It was one scrimmage. Only things that happened were Kellner booting a ground ball hit right at him, getting a little handcuffed on another but making the play, Farr bouncing the throw on a routine ground ball but Bindy bailing him out and Gavin missing a high pop up behind the bag that Hacopian needs to catch anyways. So there was one error combined from both teams IIRC through 7 innings. Gavin's was technically a single, but one of those technicalities where it's a play that obviously should have been made.

I'm nowhere close to saying our defense is going to be bad. I just don't like that we've been hearing the SS battle hasn't been locked up then Kellner looking shaky. Royo looked plenty capable. Chestnut is there if we need a 2B. Hacopian has played everywhere. We know what Gavin can do at 3rd. Bear worked out at 1B and Becker looked pretty good behind the plate. We'll find a combo of guys that work.

I don't feel like going back through pbp but I only remember one that I scored as an error

Did Hacopian play first at all? Everything I've read about his fielding from the summer to last year says he struggles in the infield. Maybe he DH's.

Hacopian did not come here to DH

Everything I've heard points to him playing SS and that was a big reason why he picked us. Of course if he struggles there all bets are off, but I think we all but guaranteed him that he would be the starting SS to start the season

He played 2nd Base in the scrimmage

Earley confirmed on TA radio this morning that Boston Kellner will be starting SS (assuming he continues to practice at the same level for the rest of this week).

He also said Gavin will rotate between 1st and 3rd base. I'm assuming he will play 3rd to give Nico rest in days he pitches.

Will be interesting to see who takes the infield spots by SEC play. I definitely thought Hacopian would play 3rd over 2nd, but it seems to make the most sense with the way the other infield spots are falling.

I was a bit surprised the see Kellner at SS, which means 2 true freshmen on the left side of the infield. I was thinking Haco would be at SS and either Royo or Kellner at 2B.

Royo made a pretty good play at SS to start a double play, so maybe he's the backup plan if Kellner struggles.

Overall, I was pretty impressed with what I saw from the pitchers (except Stewart). I thought Sims looked really good - thinking Sunday starter? Freshcorn looked solid as well, topping at 95-96. Hunter Vincent (#30) looked good as a true freshman lefty. Juan Vargas also impressed, topping at 95.

I looked to me like J Stew was working on his off speed stuff. From what I saw, I'd say he only threw a handful of fastballs (topping at 92). Everything else was off speed in the 80s. Hopefully it was just knocking off rust because we're going to need him in a big way....

. Well I don't see him as a legitimate option at SS. Maybe 2B will work.

Speaking of speed, the boys noticed a nice big, clear graphic on the scoreboard for pitch speed
