Surprising. Logic would dictate that any self respecting college coach would have to jump at the chance to join the Show at such a high level from the start.

We know the Vols are willing to open the pocketbook for him already. They built him a damn stadium after all. Money whip him some more I guess? Did see some chatter that they lost significant NIL funding that went to other Tenn sports but not sure of the veracity of that.

That seems wishful thinking IMHO. My theory is announcement will come with experienced bench coaches as well. Maybe wishful thinking on my part but I think he's gone.

Legitimate question for Aggies: How much money would a baseball Natty be worth for A&M? Would you longterm a winner at 4 mil per year?

Bob Melvin was making 4 M per. The top-paid guys are getting 8.1 (Roberts), 8.0 (Council), and 7.3 (Cora). 5 is crazy money for a college coach, but it competes with the large majority of major league teams and beats a ton of them.

I know at Tennessee Tony and Peyton have become very good friends who go boating, vacationing, dining, etc. together. Regardless of his relationship with Danny White, having Peyton as a close friend gets one instant access to funding, credibility from Vol fans, and carte blanche within the athletic department.

It is very likely Tennessee would go up to 5 million+ to keep him as coach because unlike the vast majority of "great" college coaches, Van Horn, Schloss, etc., Tony has won a Natty for the school so he is a proven commodity not a "we were so close" coach. If he is fortunate enough to win another, he can write his ticket here. I certainly do not have it, but there are many ridiculous level of money boosters at UT and others who would open the checkbook to stay at the highest level of a sport.

It makes sense to me. Make Elander go through the process. He is still a top candidate for the HC spot as they go through the motions of looking for one. Name Anderson as the interim to show you still have faith in him and hopefully retain him on staff when it all shakes out. He will still be a needed asset.

It can happen only if the direction of the program takes a 180-degree turn from what we saw last year. I'm hoping it will happen (hope is not a strategy), but I'll need to see it before I believe it. I have some significant PTSD lingering from the train wreck that was the 2025 season.
