Just switch to Tillamook.

I finally tried some after repeatedly seeing it on here. It's probably just the conditioning of eating majority Blue Bell my whole life, but that texture is just not for me.

Man I'm the opposite!! I think the texture much better. That's one my hang ups on blue bell is the texture isn't as smooth and rich as a lot of brands.

Are you people not buying Haagen Daz because you are poor?

I know it is pricey but it is also sooooo much better than anything Blue Bell makes.

Its basically the same price where I live..blue bell is maybe 50-75 cents cheaper than premium brands which is laughable to me. Not sure if its nostalgia playing a part or what but blue bell quality is barely as good as store brand ice cream and when stores have a quality in house premium brand (like HEB does with Spoon or Swoon or whatever) the gap in quality is incredibly noticeable. Get blue bell if peepaw and meemaw are over and refuse to eat anything else but as far as quality ice cream goes...there are alternatives.

The HEB Spoon or Swoon is very good

There's a new flavor out, and it's delicious.

I think it's okay but not great. I don't get pecan pie vibes when eating it. Tastes more like a pecan sandy cookie, which is not bad.

I was finally able to find and it and bought some.

I didn't think it tasted any different really than Buttered Pecan.

I'd happily buy again, but also won't be affected if it goes away (as long as Buttered Pecan stays).

Imma have to try poteet strawberry. Currently CC strawberry cheesecake is my favorite

Ben & Jerry's Strawberry Cheesecake is my go to. I know, it's pricey, so I just wait for Kroger to get it down to $2.99 a pint on a weekly digital deal or when they do a BOGO (comes out to like $2.75 each) and then load up on a few flavors

Just dropped the coin on Ben Jerry's Strawberry Cheesecake. Verdict:

1. The ice cream part is a lot better than CC
2. Not as much fillings as CC, not sure there was any cheese cake bits

Maybe I got a bad batch but I'd probably get this again just on the ice cream part alone.

I like a lot of Haagen Daz flavors, but their vanilla does not do anything for me. When I can't get BB Homemade Vanilla, Breyers Natural Vanilla is my next choice. Just had the HD recently and it was almost bad.

But for fans of premium ice cream, keep your eye on Van Leeuwin ice cream - it's French/custard style with a mixed range of traditional and creative flavors.

I agree on the Homemade Vanilla from Blue Bell. That is one of the most nostalgic flavors in the world for me.

Van Leeuwin is also fantastic. Tried their Honeycomb ice cream and it was one of the best pints I have bought. They may be even more expensive that Haagen Daz though.

We have a VL scoop shop down the street from my house and the price is a plus for keeping me from going multiple times a week - but it's a great splurge!

The issue with Haagen Dazs, in my opinion, is that it's "all natural." Whereas most of the other brands use gums/thickeners, and artificial flavors. Natural vanilla certainly has a good and unique taste to it, and has multiple flavor compounds that give it depth. But artificial vanilla gives it a much stronger punch. And the gums/thickeners reduce crystal formation and give it a much smoother texture that is very hard to get with store bought ice cream that has sat on shelves for weeks or longer.

We went from having a couple flavors of blue bell in our freezer at all times to almost never buying it. We sometimes get the vanilla/chocolate smaller cups for ease.

If we have ice cream in the freezer now it's generally homemade. Honestly, not that hard and exponentially better.

Though a new place did open up by us, Handel's, and we like some of their flavors so have bought a few quarts there.

What flavors do you make at home? What are your favorites at Handels?

My absolutely favorite to make at home is a peppermint/candy cane ice cream. Other than that we try a lot of different flavors, but vanilla and chocolate are staples.

As for handels, I really like their fudge ripple brownie but every flavor we've had has been good. My wife likes one of the fruit cobbler flavors they had.

All that said, haven't had any ice cream in a couple months as we were getting out of hand with it. But I will be making the peppermint ice cream soon as it's a must at our house during the holidays.

The one on Ella? We've been a couple times, it's good, but it sucks that the patio is basically on the street.
