And to the other poster, yes, the boots are hers. "Back in the Day" we all used to buy other uniform parts, such as the boot pants, or shirts to custom tailor.

We didn't dye them other colors or add whatever insignia we wanted.


Okay, lots of BQs would occasionally dredge up their high school band medals and wear them just to freak out the CTs, but other than that...

Two of my buddies polished the buckle flaps (at the top) black as well as polishing black stripes down the backs of their boots (where the seam is). The rest of us thought it was weird, but no one in leadership, staff or bulls, ever said anything as far as I know.

Concur. Overweight cadets, especially white belts are a disgrace. The lame defense that they are D&C does not excuse the blight that they place on the image of the Corps of Cadets. It's hard to argue that the Corps of Cadets is anything more than an pseudo military fraternity when overweight and out of shape cadets are accepted without a mandate to lose the weight in a reasonable amount of time. The freshman and sophomore years should be sufficient for that.

When did having white walls become part of the standard. When I was there, it was 'gray walls' for butts and zips per The Standard...though most had white walls two to four finger high. It seems when I look at pictures of the past, this white wall thing happened in the 90s and somehow caught on.

It took me a while to get rid of the white wall thing even in the Army.

Indeed.

The current rules aren't upheld and fatbodies are allowed to eat all the chow they want.

I was D&C and took it upon myself to go running on my own than what I did with my outfit. A lot of the time it's just a personal thing to go and work out on your own.

I wonder if the Standard only allowed those two colors of boots when I was in (1996-2000). My boots were red mahogany.

I didn't mean to imply that all D&C cadets are overweight but only that it was an excuse that I remember fat cadets using to justify why they looked like a sack of potatoes wearing boots. The ROTC contract cadets have their weight issues addressed by the service components but the upperclassmen with weight problems pretty much fall into the D&C category. There were three Navy contract cadets (two '89 and on '91) in my outfit that lost their contracts because they could not maintain their weight standards. All three of them were content to keep eating themselves into larger waist sizes as D&C cadets after losing their contracts.

^^^I know exactly what you mean. Hell, during my butt and zip year I was in better shape than one of my buddies who was a contract cadet. He motivated me in a way.

I was not in the corps so I don't have the privilege of knowing what D&C is. Could one of you guys enlighten me please.
