Can someone please provide me with the significance of the Female Band Member wearing Sr BLACK Boots? All of the fans around us wanted to know if this is something new or what the reason is?

I doubt that there's any organizational significance. I recall one of my '89 upperclassmen buying black senior boots and a black Sam Browne just because he was an eccentric (A-2) Renegade who did it because no written regulation said it was prohibited.

Bought the boots from some oddball source.

Chose to use an incredibly dark polish.

There have always been a range of shades of brown for the boots, depending on leather and color of polish. I really don't know why anyone would pick something so ugly.

What Canyon said...probably just a very dark finish.

I seem to recall some folks ordering theirs from some cheapo place in San Antonio that made a maroon-ish finish that was almost purple.

bqkitty-

It's personal choice at one level. I think boots that are so dark as to look black from a distance look bad. Unless you are shooting for the "motorcycle cop" look.

And I also knew guys that had boots that were so light they looked burnt orange. Definitely bad bull there.

Frankly, if your boots are so dark that people can tell it from the stands, perhaps you ought to moderate the color.

It is called a "uniform" for a reason.

Another change came in 1966 that made the look of each and every Senior more uniform. It was decided that all boots must be of medium brown color.

As CanyonAg said, there's a reason it's called a uniform. It's not a fashion show. Very dark or marbled boots look like, well....enough said.

I can't believe today's prices. Mine, ordered in the fall of my junior year, were $95 from Holick's - $105 out the door with tax, spurs, hooks, and bags. Still have 'em.

Holy hell, JR69!

Yours came with hooks and everything for that price? ...Mine just came with another 0 at the end.

You were just born too late Nav....

Someone must not have read the Standard, page 91:

(30) Senior Uniforms:
(a) Senior Boots:
(i) “Tan Imported French Calf” and “Turf Tan” are the only authorized colors for Senior Boots. Boots will be plain-toed and without laces.

Close, but that wouldn't be "L" Hawes.

Ahh, I remember blowing off The Standard "once or twice"...but then again I never had the opportunity to show the entire world how I justified it. Ahh the interweb.

Did you have focus of a crowd of 80,000 to show just how much of a rebel you are?

The Standard is a guide. It has it's place, and there are plenty of times when it can be set to the side.

Intentionally making your boots a different colour so you'll stand out while marching on Kyle isn't one of those times.

Sounds like we are on the same page there chief. Re-read my post...or I can rephrase for you.

We're on the same page.

I was just point out that rules get bent. But there's a time and a place for it. She seems to miss that.

Now this is a helluva thread. Getting schooled on The Standard by lhawes is priceless.

Ulysses90 - I know who you're talking about. I honestly think that guy's boots were black but I never got to see them up close. And if you were in A2, we definitely know a couple of the same people.

bqkitty2011 - I got to see your boots up close and personal last weekend. I just thought they were ugly, not rebellious. Whatever floats your boat, I don't really care.
EDIT: ranting digression removed.

After last weekend, I've got much bigger fish to fry with the behaviour I've seen from many of the Waggies, esp. BQ's. Frankly, I was disgusted at what I saw during the Goaline stand against Mizzou (pix later, assuming I don't decide to burn them in disgust).

I polished mine pretty dad gum dark but they were still brown. And Nav, if you want to talk spot prices in the boot market, I was the last to pay $475 at Victor's in April 1990.

lawes, I saw the 500th Bass pictures. Sweet! I'll get there someday. He is 21 years ahead of me though

I knew I had a photo of those boots.

Those boots and low quarters behind them are way too close in color.

I was in A-2. Those boots were jet black from the day he bought them at Victor's before any polish was applied. Sadly, John Howard died in a plane crash back in 2007.

Ill be your date in the stands and wear my gumby suit for added effect if your interested.

Maybe this needs a serious post rather than just my normal bs. They are her boots. She is a senior in the corps, the FTAB, and TAMU. That is three accomplishments that she has EARNED. If she wants to polish those boots till they are black as my lungs she can do it. She earned them, not you guys.

Gig 'Em boot girl. We are all proud of you.

No, it's a UNIFORM. Can she also wear a red belt if she wants?

Those boots look mighty damn bad.

I spent my 4 years in the Corps and commanded a special unit. Earned my boots, earned the right to polish them every day. Which gives me the right to say those things are ridiculous. I don't care if she polishes them black, this is America. But they are UGLY and if she were my buddy i can tell you something would have been done.

Last I checked they were hers. Not yours. They also must have been approved.

I don't know if they were approved or not, but if she plans on joining the Military when she graduates she's in for a rude awakening! You are not an individual in any branch!
