Wow, Leiter gets a gift. loads bases in 2nd on three singles. Gives up a run on a single. Then gets a double play on an infield fly and tag on man coming from 3rd. Then gets a K.

He's on waivers off the 40. Anyone can claim him. If he does get through we can send him down. I think it's his first time through waivers so he can't refuse. I do think he gets claimed. Why wouldn't the White Sox bring him back to eat some innings?

Yeesh. So everyone go ahead and disregard my previous comment about him. I knew he had been bad this spring but he seemed like he was one of their guys. There's my first bad take for the 2025 season. Stay tuned for more!

I wouldn't hold my breath in him getting claimed. He's been that bad. His 2022 numbers look just like this as well.

So reading the various tea leaves this morning, it looks to me like the rotation will be DeGrom, Mahle, Eovaldi, Rocker & Leiter. Also, Evan Carter is likely headed to AAA - which I don't think is a bad thing, let him get his swing in order with less pressure.

I'm sure we'll all have plenty of bad takes, I certainly know I will.

I don't think the current leadership of the Rangers is loyal to a fault. It's a results driven business and I think they've gotten to the point where if you don't produce, you're gone. Dunning certainly had plenty of opportunities and was just never consistent enough. He really needed to be good this spring and just wasn't. Unfortunate for him, but I'm personally glad to see we're (hopefully) not going to keep trotting underperforming or non-performing players out there hoping that they'll eventually figure it out.

Completely agree. The previous regime insisted on continuously trotting out underperforming players for way longer than they should. This group is not that way. And by no coincidence, is also a group that won a World Series.

This is exactly what I had hoped for, minus a hot Osuna staying with the big league club. Pillar/ Leody is a solid platoon to have but hopefully Carter can figure it out quick in AAA.

re: Osuna, I think (respectfully) that you're off base, and here's why.

A lot of his ST ABs were against marginal pitching.
He's never played above AA, and he's only had 235 ABs at that level.
His playing time at the MLB level would be limited/platoon, which could (and likely would) hinder his development.
He's not on the 40 man roster yet.
Most importantly, it would start the clock on his service time. He would likely cool off and you've effectively wasted a year of him on the 40 man roster.

He had a great spring, and he's a great prospect. He absolutely should not have been on the OD roster. They sent him back to AA, that's really the only thing that I question or find surprising.

I should've clarified it more but the Osuna comment was more tongue in cheek. Like yourself, I am really surprised that he went AA and not AAA. I suspect he'll be in round rock by mid season and if he continues to play well we may see him late in the season.

Agree with that timeline, I think he could easily get a late-season look.

I never put much stock into ST stats anyway - exhibit A is Jared Walsh. Tore it up in ST, and completely fell apart when the season started.

Agree. My excitement with Osuna is how he ended last season and it seems to have carried over, like he's figured something out. I also love the way he plays the game. A real spark plug to a team.

I like Osuna going to AA. No reason to push him right now or try to speed up the process with him. Let him pick up where he left off last year in AA. If it looks like he needs a bigger challenge, then move him up to AAA. Second half of the season if he's cleared enough hurdles and there is playing time available, bring him up.

But for 2025, my plan would be to develop him in preparation for a 2026 roster spot. Garcia comes off the books, we will have a much clearer idea of where we are with Carter and Taveras and they will know if they are looking to sign a FA outfielder or not. And not like a Pillar FA outfield signing, but something comparable to a Tucker signing. If Osuna is tearing up AAA at the time, that would divert money from an outfield signing and we would be looking at pitching with that cash, which would be an outstanding development.

I mentioned I didn't what to think of Dunning. Waivers weren't in my mind.

Hopefully someone picks him up and his salary.

Regarding not holding on too long... the current structure of Minors is probably part of the current mindset. With the consolidation and limit to number of players in the Org... those mid-tier players will likely have more availability and fluidity.

I think this mive also shows confidence in Leiter and Rocker.

I knew Dunning has been bad did not expect to see this. I did know they were high on houser so we shall see. I hate it for Dane. He was so vital to 2023.

I just don't see Joc hitting against lefties unless it's an emergency. I don't love have switch hitters at the end, but none of them are middle of the order guys, so just go with it. Lastly, I think Burger could be the 4 hole hitter against lefties later in the year, but there's no need to put that pressure on him to start the season.

You may be right as we get into the season but I don't think there's anyway Boch leaves Joc off the opening day line up
