Regarding Corbin. Landri sent out a report that he has built-up to 80 PC, but that his wife is about to squeeze out a baby, and may not be immediately available.

Also, he has incentives that his $1.1M base has milestones for IP... as well as Appearances as a RP. So, if the Rangers use him as a SP or RP, they have added incentives. Additionally, if they trade him, there is a payout.

Looks like the Rangers were very opportunistic with him, but also, keep them beneath the CBT.

Young has also indicated a few things that might help them leverage him in a very productive way. Pitch selection, etc.

Indications are he may not be available as a SP to start the season, and the Rangers will be able to have flexibility in using him. I'm really excited about what he brings.

If he can fold into the SP rotation, then, that could make Gray or Mahle expendible mid-season, saving us tons of cash. If they (Gray and Mahle) are successful, then we can get a return.

It really sounds like Bochy and the Rangers have no intentions of sending Carter to AAA for a stretch at the beginning of the season. Kevin Sherrington at the DMNs writes that Bochy seems pretty content to platoon Carter with Taveras or Pillar. I don't really love this, but so be it. I guess it's just time for Carter to get big league at-bats no matter how they come.

I've got PTSD from seeing the Mavericks trade Luka for a nachos grande. I half expect the Rangers to go full-Nico and trade Carter for Anthony Rendon.

Was tempted by Fubo, but you have to have the regional sports package which is another $17 a month. If one prefers YTTV, makes sense to just get the app.

Only problem I have is a Samsung TV - so I'll have to watch through the web browser on the TV.

Yea - it took forever for them to add it. Helps not having to jump back and forth to the Roku any longer.

Even though you already decided to go the V+ route, hopefully this makes you more comfortable with your decision since it won't be such a PITA to get things going every time you want to watch a game! And I'm betting the PQ will be much better in the app than in the browser.

Thanks for the info on Vic+. Just looked and installed it. It was added on 3.13.25. I was planning to buy a new TV because ours is 8+yrs old and I assumed Samsung was no longer updating it.

Carter - I think he makes the team and they platoon him. He is 1yr (10 months) younger than Langford. He has growth to make and I personally think that is best at the MLB level. There are just too many RHP to consider and the experience against them will have long-term benefit.

Dunning - This is a mystery to me. He tried a new pitch in the off-season after '23. The pitch never materialized and in '24 he was prone to the inopportune grooving of a pitch that ended up a HR.

Early in ST he indicated that his feel in the BP was good but didn't have the same feel early on the mound and it took some time to settle in. That seems to be what last night presented. So, we know he struggles the 3rd time through because he doesn't have the established pitch selection... but isn't getting early feel if his pitches coming out of the BP... which gives concern coming out of the BP.

Rocker overall seemed to have a good outing. I was listening on the radio. Seems in the 2I he came out and walked the leadoff on 5 pitches. He then got behind the next batter 1-0. The next pitch was described as being down the middle of the plate. I'm guessing he didn't want to get behind 2-0 and predictably grooved a pitch that was taken deep.

Line: 4.2 IP, 3H, 2ER, 2 BB, 8K, 1HR. 1 HBP.

Overall very positive outing.

I was commenting re: Dunning...and Rocker for that matter, although I think Rocker makes the team. Dunning is very iffy IMO

I think Dunning is a lock to make the team and Rocker was definitely headed to AAA before the Bradford and Gray injuries.

I disagree that he's a lock. Likely maybe, but not a lock. He's pitched poorly in a spring training where he is fighting for a job. If he does, he'll likely be the 1st one gone when Corbin is ready. He truly hasn't looked good at all, and he really needed to. JMO

He's sucked. No doubt it. I just think they are comfortable with him and he gives them the ability to go multiple innings and spot start. I think they have him on the roster and if he continues to perform poorly when it counts, he'll be gone. But I expect he gets the chance to fail first.

Yes they have pitched better. We'll see what happens. I do not work in the front office of the Texas Rangers, so I don't factor into the decisions they make, to my frustration.

Why the rush to have Carter in the bigs?

I don't think it's necessarily a rush, I think it's more of a belief that he's the best option. It's not like Leody has been tearing it up this spring. Carter started out terrible but has been doing better - not great but improved. For the spring, he's only hitting .179 - but Leody is only hitting .205. It's not like there's a high degree of separation there, and think everyone pretty much agrees that Carter's upside is higher. That's how I see it anyway.

Rangers have told a number of players they won't make opening day roster. No real surprises, though Adrian Houser does stand out.

Of note: Houser does not have out in contract until 5/15.
