Friendlies don't count so US would have had to try to cap tie him in some CONCACAF crap last summer or maybe last fall. he's just a kid. Did we want to win trophies or try to cap tie a germerican wunderkind six months ago before he was studding out on a Bundesliga first team? Timing has a lot to do with it here. Now that he's balling in Bundesliga at this young age and he's got the eye of the German national team, of course he'll prefer that.

Apparenly it's not over yet.

More than that… since he's U21, he can do a one-time switch. So even bringing him in for Nations League or WCQ (if we had actually had that this cycle) wouldn't have fully cap tied him unless we got him over the >3 caps so it couldn't even be a case of giving him garbage minutes in a game we're winning.

A World Cup cap would be irreversible though, which is why he's balking at it. (So would Copa and I think even lolGold Cup)

He has to sit out 3 years before he could do that 1 time switch, unless i was reading it wrong.

  • The Under-21 Exception: A player can switch associations if they played in an official, competitive, or friendly match for a country (Country A) before age 21.
  • Limitations: This rule applies if the player:
    • Made 3 or fewer senior appearances total.
    • Did not play in a major tournament final (e.g., World Cup, Euro, Gold Cup).
    • Has waited 3 years since their last cap.

For sure. No small thing, but in our hypothetical scenario he still would be eligible to switch to Germany well before the 2030 WC. Point being (to your point on the previous page) it's really hard to cap a young player. Even if he had been ready for competitive games last year, he likely would've still been eligible for a switch.

I'm pretty sure none of the youth matches count at all. This sounds like a confused grasping at straws to me.

Believe it being an official FIFA tournament means what Doug tweeted is correct.
He still CAN switch, but once he switches he is locked in.
No going to Germany, not making the team and then coming back to USA.
He swaps he is German forever

at this point, is there any debate about who should be our strikers?

Apparently the players had input this time around which is really cool:

How USMNT players, after a 2022 kit rebellion, took control of 2026 World Cup jersey design

And this is hilarious:
Quote:

Adams jokes that McKennie, "at one point, was coming up with some crazy designs that no one agreed with."

Update with a quote from the article that's a conversation we've literally had on this board:

Quote:

At the onset of the process, Nike gave its staff a research assignment. "We were trying to figure out the identity for the federation," Ronnie Stewart, Nike's global football product director, tells The Athletic. They realized that U.S. Soccer, "at least in the greater landscape of football, doesn't really have one yet at least on the men's side," Stewart says.

And kits had been a part of that. Over the past three decades, there have been plain whites; there have been sashes and stripes, in different shades of gray and red. There have been navy blues and dark blues and light blues; "Bomb Pops" and "Waldos"; indistinct patterns and lines in every direction imaginable.

"The U.S. jerseys change every year so drastically," Adams says.

The idea, in 2026 and beyond, was to rectify that. To create a kit (or two) that becomes a staple. "To at least have one that always has stars, or always has stripes," Adams says. "Because that's the U.S."

Several players specifically advocated for some iteration of the "Waldos," the 2012 USMNT kits with red-and-white horizontal stripes. Nike and U.S. Soccer jumped on board, but on one crucial condition: no retro. "What we didn't want to do is take a look backwards," Chargar says. And in fact, when Nike came to the federation with initial designs in the spring of 2024, the proposed "stripes" kit was "a little too close" to the Waldos, Chargar adds.

Their solution was wavy stripes. "The motion of the flag," Chargar says, "was key for us." When they presented a revised design to a half dozen players at the team's hotel in Dallas a few days before the 2024 Copa Amrica, everyone more or less signed off on it.

You can see the details on the away kit better on the instagram post. They look pretty slick with the stars emblazoned all over the jersey.

Here's a close up in the article linked:

The kits look sharp!

I like the away kit but honestly have never been a fan of the red and white striped jerseys. The original waldo was probably the best of the striped jerseys this not so much.

The new kits are fine. Not my favorite but faaaaaar from the worst Nike has given us. At least we'll be recognizable on the field.

What an idiotic list. The 2014 whites with the collar are top 3 for me

One stripe only, Vasily.

I'll take almost any sash kit, and the Herbie racing stripe from 2006 over just about anything else.

I don't think it's serious, but serious enough for him to miss the last round of friendlies before WC roster announcement. Wish he and Dest were available.

So that camp roster has 27 guys. Assuming Adams and Dest are in when healthy - who from this list doesn't make the 26? I assume we only take 3 GKs so there's one spot. Who else?

I'd chop Agyemang. Honestly I'd rather slide McKinnie up to the 9 in an emergency than use him.

After that though, it gets tough. A year ago I'd have happily said Roldan even before Agyemang, but I'm less sure of that now.
