247 has LSU 1 and Texas 2 while ON3 has LSU 1 and Texas 18.

I'd put Ole Miss #1 considering a few weeks ago most assumed LSU was about to strip them for parts.

Wow that's a lot. Looks like Colorado is second in transfers out with 47, which is also a lot!
That on3 transfer portal ranking tracker is a LOT better than 247. I like how they account for who is leaving and not just who is coming in.
Elko and staff continue to kill it and show their big brain in this. Of the top seven we have the lowest adjusted NIL. This shows they have a value for a player and will not get caught up in a bidding war for someone and overpay.
Well, they have arguably the top WR, LB, and RB (2, really) in the class. Horton is really the only player we have that is comparable and he isn't Coleman.
Maybe Formby gets better, but we're missing on big targets or we just seem to think what we have is good enough. It isn't.

Or maybe Elko and his staff know a lot more than you and are better at evaluating talent they can develop than you are. I'm sure you didn't get too excited when we got Howell or Craver out of the portal or even KC as you knew nothing about them or what we could develop them into.

We went after the guys we wanted and had an extremely high hit rate. We really didn't miss outside of Coleman and maybe the Michigan DT.

Imagine you're SMU first year off death penalty30+ years ago.
In today's world can rebuild your team in 1-2 years from portal. They never had depth in upper classmen after that. took decades to get back to relevance of even a minor level.

They were awful so it doesnt seem to be that big of a loss. They will be competitive next year in that awful.
I like the On3 approach much better. We should evaluate what we gained vs. lost in terms of getting to both a more complete squad and difference makers. And while we are not done yet, we've done a really good job addressing needs.

Most of what we are losing are bench players and most of what we are bringing in should be guys that see the field, I like how what we have done for sure.

In years 1 and 2, correct, they lost to Sarks 4th and 5th year teams after he built his program up. It sucks, and it doesn't take away from how much losing hurts, bragging rights, or any of that, but perspective matters. It's not a very fair comparison nor is it a reason to downplay what Elko has done in the portal thus far.
What he did in the portal was actually pretty outstanding. They hit on a ridiculous amount of their top targets at positions. Whether you believe it or not doesn't really matter, but they got their #1 overall CB, 2 of their top 3-4 OTs, either #1 or #2 LB, #1 S, one of their top 2-3 DEs, their 2nd WR, and 3 of the top 5/6 DTs they sought after on their boards. Even TE, they really only targeted about 3 guys and landed 2 of them. getting that many guys that far up your big board is a huge win. Hard to argue otherwise. We'll see what their evals look like next fall, but that's pretty insane, actually.
In addition, in the last five years, I'd say we probably had the 2nd or 3rd best year two of any new program behind only Indiana and maybe one other if you dig deep enough. The portal was a HUGE reason for that. Elko was able to add about 8-9 NFL draft picks from the 2024/2025 portal classes. All but Scourton were here for this season. Elko should have some serious trust when it comes to portal evaluations and where he's taken the program thus far. Need to get that next gear and close out a win at Kyle over texas, no doubts. But stop comparing everything to them. We play them once a year.
Come on folks. The success of these transfers (like HS recruits) won't be known until they play. Being ranked high is close enough. For example, if someone re-ranks the defensive lineman, it could impact the portal ranking. As long as we are near the top, we can assume we have done well.
I just take comfort in knowing these people ranking the players (and therefore the schools' transfer gradings) are studying this a lot more than I am. And, of course, be leery of those with sip bias, etc.

I think we nailed it. We got everyone we fought hard for and those that didn't choose us were the ones we cooled on.

Yep. We got better players but they are replacing worse players so they got a lot better. In theory

Am I reading this right - we have the #2 class and our NIL increased only $1.4 million? Every other team around us has significantly upward adjusted NILs. Is Elko just really good at this?
