There's no guarantee this year's success translates to next year, but Elko breeds a whole helluva lot of confidence with how we've been able to face adversity and maintain focus so year. This speaks a lot to that and reminds me of some of Saban's interviews where he said some of the same things about being what players need in a given moment, whether it's intensity or calmness.

He is the most "hungry" coach we have had in at least the last 25 years and his "football mind" seems quite underrated. He reminds me of Saban in a lot of ways without someone that is trying to just copy Saban.

Let's not forget about recruiting. Not only did this staff orchestrate a magical portal last year to give us so many play makers, they are gaining every week with 2026 and 2027! This is a COMPLETE package in a coaching staff. Money helps, but it is the atmosphere and the family environment that feeds the passion.

Next year we're gonna see regression, purely based on roster turnover. We're gonna lose a TON of players, and have to backfill with a lot of younger guys with less experience, plus some sprinkles from the portal.

And it'll show itself in the W-L record.

Which means we'll also have a lot of loudmouth idiots wanting to fire him.

We shall see how it plays out, but good teams don't regress they reload. I think he is that kind of a coach and is building that kind of program, who knows of course, but that is what I see.

Will have to hit Transfer Portal once again for, obviously. Would have to imagine we are looking for 2-3 OL as top priority.

We don't have that kind of roster stacked up.
Yet.

Other teams put in 10+ draft picks each year like clockwork.
For us, this will be the first time in forever where we get anywhere close to that, let alone doing it in consecutive years.

I also like hearing how his new deal includes incentive money for coordinators and staff so that they are invested in success here and that NIL was also involved. I know he's going to be rich but I've never heard one of these negotiations taking about investing in the program not just resetting the coaching market ceiling like what's happening with Kiffin.

Why didn't he negotiate these types of incentives for support personnel and assistants when he took the job? Also that 4 million dollar raise could have helped as well on NIL too. Again we got leveraged, just hope it works in our favor this go round.

He did well at Duke but he wasn't a splash hire, so he didn't have leverage at the time.

This season results have been stellar. I wouldn't have predicted 10-0, my prediction was 9-3 at best. He was going to be sought after by other teams if he didn't re-sign with us.

Under Elko there has definitely been a culture shift, to me most notably is discipline. Though he's not that old, he's an old school football coach. Under Jimbo or Sumlin, I don't think we had the grit win at ND, as well as come backs at LSU and against SCAR.

Certainly his success has been helped by his staff, and any good leader would look out for his team members.

Remember when that clown bjork wanted stoops and texags and others said "oh hell, no!"

WHEW!

I really hope we play Ohio State just so that we can rub it in his nasty smug little face

We got leveraged? The guy is 10-0 in the SEC and was the 11th highest paid coach in the SEC. I'd say his first two years here were the best investment our program has made since we hired Jackie.

Does anyone not remember what happened after the 2020 season with Jimbo? Tell me what is different? I mean I love how we are playing but we didn't exactly play a murderer's row SEC schedule. We didn't even have to play the top 4 teams and it is debatable that we didn't even get the top 6 teams if you include Vanderbilt and Tennessee .

Jimbo was a snake oil salesman. Elko is not.

The difference is in the modern era you can buy that kind of roster year to year. I am not saying this is great but that is the modern game. He has proven he can use the portal to make an instant impact, exhibit 1 is our WR corps.

You can supplement your roster selectively from the portal, sure. Like we just did.
But you can't expect to buy half your starters from it year to year and expect 10+ win seasons and playoff berths each of those years with any consistency.
