I don't think Jimbo was mailing it in. I think if we hadn't taken him when we did he would have sunk into irrelevance at FSU. Jameis Winston was probably doing more for that team than everyone realized. Too complex and tabs at A&M were fragile.

Elko had Duke on an upward trajectory. He's turned us around, quickly. Could he just subconsciously toss the towel and cash the checks? Sure.

But these coaches careers take decades to get to this point. The years as a grad assistant, low level assistants, grinding out to become a position coach, many never even become coordinators... To have only (in terms of career length) still me a "new" has coach, the hunger should be there.

It's not about the money in the bank. It's what the money says about you, your work ethic, your character, your skill, discipline, potential, etc.

Succeed or fail, the money spends and passes on all the same. But it's got to sting when it's $70 million telling you you're a failure.

But it's been 70 years since a coach left A&M for another job, and two since we payed the last one 70 million not to work for us. And that was after paying all the previous coaches for the last 30 years not to coach for us after they flamed out

No need to try to be cheap. He's certainly looked like a top 5 coach this year. It's the buyout commitments that have bitten us in the ass previously. Hopefully we include some sort of obligation to offset.

I think this is great for the simple fact Mike Elko has brought discipline to the Aggie football team on and off the field. That right there is worth every penny!
