Growing up in the RGV I always think about Beulah in the third week of September 1967. Lived through that. I also find it interesting that a late September storm had a "B" name. Our ability to track fish storms has sure changed since then. I'm sure there were other storms that weren't tracked and named that year before Beulah.

I think of something completely different when I hear the name Beulah:

This is why we can ignore reports that there are more named storms now than ever before.

Exactly. There wouldn't be all the named storms if the weather poofs didn't have missives to keep eyeballs glued to 24 hour news coverage.

Weather dork fear porn lovers will retort with:

Got a wx notification from work and it showed that one of the systems is headed for Spain. How often does that happen?I don't generally pay attention to storms in that area so haven't really noticed it before.

it happened earlier in the year with one of the storms. the residual came across the UK. that's just where the weather pattern takes it
Sea Speed

Yea i get that, just curious how many of them end up headed that way. Donny of them ever make landfall as hurricanes or just residual low pressure systems? Surprised I had not noticed this before. Guess I could grok it.

Yeah, but the UK is an island of candyasses now. They wilt at a stiff breeze.

I believe this will be the first hurricane in the Gulf this year. All others have been tropical storms or out in the Atlantic.

We've been out in 77379 since 3:00, estimated back on around 10:45. I took a quick drive around the neighborhood this morning and didn't see any big trees down in the road or anything that bad. The red light at Louetta & Kuykendahl was completely out.

Once again, we got hit HARD in our little 77388 area of Spring. Huge healthy pine trees literally snapped in half. The noise last night during the storm was insane. Not just the thunder and rain, but the wind was intense.

If you believe in God, pray for the Jamaicans. Melissa has bombed out overnight and is still strengthening. Central pressure dropped 6 mb in a little over 2 hours between subsequent recon passes this morning and they just measured surface winds of 180 mph in the northern eyewall. Tropical Tidbits has a good aircraft recon page where you can track the hurricane hunter planes and see the data as it comes in if you are into that. But Jamaica is going to get pounded very hard for a prolonged period of time by this slow moving storm. So say a prayer for them if you are inclined, because they are going to need it.
