They should have traded him in one of the past 2 offseasons. Between his inability to deliver all season (which is unlikely to get batter all season + his age), I can't justify seeing over $40mm of cap going to him. But if you were going to keep him, the signing should have been done this spring.

They'll get him signed, but he's never going to not be a headache

This is what I was thinking. If they've known for 2 years they were going to play hardball with him, why not just trade him when his value was highest? You could have got maybe 3 first rounders plus a second or third and now you will be lucky to get 2 first rounders (assuming he's actually being traded now).

Yeah, there's just no sense to playing hardball with who you see as the centerpieces of your team. You should be working shoulder to shoulder with their agents while crafting deals ahead of time that will (1) keep them satisfied and (2) be structured to be as cap friendly as possible.

Instead, the Cowboys consistently choose this prideful hardball method that is (1) contentious with your key players (2) hurts the team's preparation for the season and (3) costs them more cap. It is the formula for how NOT to manage a team.

Trade him to a team that will suck for the next 2 years: Jets, Browns, Panthers, Jax, Indy, or Arizona.

Get two first round picks which should be top 10 or better.

Good riddance.

Go get overpaid somewhere else.

Never liked the guy. Talked too much.

He's a stat chaser.

I'm not a Micah fan by any stretch - he disappears when it matters most - but I'm 100% behind him here. **** Jerry and Stephen. Dumbasses. They've made a once proud franchise into a laughing stock.

I've been critical of Dallas for recent contract stuff so this is not letting them off the hook... But I sorta like what they are doing and what I'm hearing in recent weeks.

Keeping in mind that you can't sign them all... You look at the Fergy deal and you hear positive talks happening to extend Tyler Smith and Bland.

IMO, this is the way. They all know the Parsons deal is hovering so now it's a game of "who wants their money first.". That's how you get win/win deals signed

Time will tell how it all plays out, but at the end of the day if we extend guys like Smith and Bland and get a kings ransom in draft picks for Parsons then I'm happy. That's a great off-season and start to the new Schotty era.

And as a follow up,,, signing Parsons is OK too. Lots of ways to play this.

But Parsons isn't going anywhere if the Jones's say so. The 5th year option and the franchise tag are a real *****, but that's the NFL and NFLPA agreed rules.

If I'm the Jones's, this tweet by Parsons tells me one thing. This guy loves football and it PISSED that he's sitting around watching right now. Zero doubt he's on his agents ASS to get something done so he can play ball. Whether that is a favorable contract or a very nice trade, I don't care as long as Dallas benefits.

There is no chance Jerry will agree to trade him, just on general principle he will refuse to be seen as acquiescing to the desires of a player that differ from his own.

Will McClay has done a great job drafting talent, but when anyone wonders why the Cowboys have spent 30 years trying to get to an NFC title game, it's crap like this right here

Not football related, but possibly personality related. During COVID when some states tried to open up quickly around Memorial Day, some friends and I took advantage of great deals for golf and lodging in Scottsdale and stayed in Old Town. Tons of celebrities and athletes were flocking there from all over that weekend because it was one of the few places trying to be as 'open' as possible.

Manziel, other pros, Micah Parsons, online influencers...they were all over the restaurants and bars.

Micah Parsons, while never being threatening or mean or anything, ran around like a chicken with his head cut off who had not been told no by anyone in a very long time. Of course he was young at the time but he showed zero concept of having guardrails. It was unlike anything I'd ever really seen from someone, be it a known person or not, in public settings.

My guess is he's been tough to handle on a daily basis during his time in Dallas.

Yup. The smart GM would kick him out the door for two firsts and a few other picks with a chance at a QB in the future, but Jerry is not that. He's got pride.

How much of a haul can you really expect when other teams know he wants out.... Wouldn't most just wait it out 'til his contract is up in that scenario and just sign him?????

Yet another screw up in the list of screw ups named the Jones family

It applies here. They aren't trading him and that was decided long ago. He'll get signed before game 1. But it will be for more money, more drama, and less camp preparation than was ever necessary

I wonder if teams would accept both Micah and Jerruh in a trade.

Trade demands don't really have much power in the NFL like they do in the MLB and NBA. A player demanding a trade doesn't really gain much leverage and it doesn't dramatically alter their price/trade value, largely due to how contracts are structured and how little relative guaranteed money is involved compared to other sports.

I'm the NFL, you're trading for the right to not have to bid against other teams in open free agency. Trading for guys near the end of their deals actually keeps their next contract down especially with respect to guaranteed money. So there's still massive incentive to get him now.

I predict Dallas signs him in the end…

The words from Jerry's camp opening press conference are funny - he expects his high paid guys to be leaders and bring intangibles. That's fair. The problem is that at the same time he and Stephen consistently engage in some childish negotiation tactics to show their d***s are bigger than the agents'. Hard to have it both ways, Jerry, and tbh, you are undermining them as leaders when you dick around with them in a visible manner.

Hard to tell a guy out of one side of your mouth that he needs to be a leader while on the other side you can't even be bothered to pick up the phone and prioritize getting him on the field.

I really believe that Micah is throwing Jerry a lifeline here. We all know Dak is only getting older, and heck some hate him already, so trade this guy and set yourself up to get a big time QB as Dak approaches 34.

I made 2 posts above using a lot of logic and a lot of words.

But if you put a gun to my head, lol, yeah, this is the most likely out come and it's been the outcome for a while now.

I think my take is this front office has failed to learn any lesson from the last 10+ years with contracts.

But also

Im a little tired of players not playing their contracts, and I think less of Micah for this.
All I do is Nguyen
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Agree on both counts. Players need to chill on demanding new contacts and our FO is ridiculous

I ****ing hate this front office. Even though this is most likely just posturing for negotiation purposes its so completely unnecessary. All they have to do is look at how Philly handles extensions and just do that. Not kidding at all when I say that I could do a better job than them at this aspect of cap management and player relationships.

You don't understand. Stephen is the smartest man in the nfl. Just ask him.

Stephen is such a fool. I said they should have traded him in the spring of 2024 for a haul and again in spring 2025. Now they are painted in a corner. I'm continually amazed at the lack of professionalism Stephen and Jerry have. They are not serious people.

This is not a popular opinion around here but it wouldn't faze me at all if they traded him. I've always said I would rather have four 10 million dollar players than one even as good as he is. That being said, they won't and he will sign a stupid deal before the season starts.

My only lean towards trading Parsons over signing him has very little to do with his talent and almost all to do with NFL refs not having a clue what holding is/isn't.

I will never understand how generational athletic freaks like Parsons and Garrett draw very few holding calls.

You must not have visited this board because a ton of us have been good with trading him. That said, the best time to do it was the spring of 2024

In all fairness , reading back a bit, it's about 50/50 here. He's a great player but you can make your team better with more players taking up that 40 mil a year. I was all for trading CD as well last year.
DannyDuberstein
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The conversation goes back to 2023 though. Tons were ready back that far. Reality is that it became clear they were set on resigning him, so any debate became pointless. I know I stopped pitching trade once it was clear they were never going to do it
